Reading books will never help you.

This past week I have realised something really important and I hope you will also grasp what I've learnt.

Reading books will never help me get rich

Watching Motivational Videos won't help me

Attending Seminars will never help me earn a single dollar

Last year, I purchased The Secret. I read it, visualised, nothing happened.

I read it again, visualised, nothing happened, again, again, again, NO RESULTS, nothing, NADA.

Was the book full of lies?

NO, I was the problem, I was reading the book and reading others but what I failed to do, is study them, I mean really Immerse myself into the material.

For the past two weeks I have sat down every day and studied The Secret, I've sat with a pen and paper and wrote down every key point, I've meditated on key pages and I've learnt more in this past two weeks about The Secret than I did in the previous year?

I finally grasp the importance of gratitude and feeling good now

I finally understand why visualising by itself will never work without becoming truly emotionally involved

I finally understand that to take anything from any motivational material, you have to study it, I mean really get into it.

You can't read a book once and expect it to change your life, it'll never happen, you might have a few days of feeling good but it'll quickly diminish.

If you want to achieve, please do this I PROMISE you'll start seeing results.

I want you to choose a book which you've read and enjoy, then truly study it, I suggest reading Think and Grow Rich or The Science of Getting rich (available free on thesecret.tv).

Until you study and master one great book, you will never MASTER YOUR MIND.

Bob Proctor reads Think and Grow Rich every single day, he's still learning from it, if studying one book vigorously is effective for Bob Proctor, what's stopping you from trying?

Get a book

Study it

Master it

Master your life

I totally agree with you because reading and studying a book by heart are very much different. Even in our day to day lives, if we just do one thing because we have to do it and not because we love doing it then the outcome will be just satisfactory and not outstanding.

For me, read a book - then put it in practice. If it doesn't work - change the game plan - and keep changing it until it works.

The Secret DVD that I purchased only started working for me after a year. I knew this stuff worked, but couldn't get it to work for me. So what I did and still do is play the DVD while I work out 4 days a week, and that works great for me. I also take an hour break throughout the day to write down what I am grateful for and respond to "Your wish is my command," from The Secret. I write it down, feel it, visualize it, and give thanks while I write. It truly works! Thanks for sharing.

Very interesting and thought provoking post. It is definitely important to live the mindset that the books talk about, and really immerse yourself into the material. It can be counter productive to read all of the great material, enjoy it, but go back to your old ways of thinking and being afterwords.

It has been said that in order to really get the most out of the food you eat, you should remove all distractions, chew slowly, and really enjoy and savor the food that you are eating. When you eat while watching negative news on tv, your body will not be in the proper state to get all of the nutrients it needs from the food you are eating.

Basically you need to get it clear in your mind what you want, visualising is just the first step, theres a part of your brain called the reticular activating system which remembers things you have thought about and when you go about your daily life it magnifies people/books/opportunities in order for you to fulfil your goal.

Exactly, action is needed and I got this wrong before I truly studied the law of attraction. Visualising is one step, not the only one and critics of the secret very often miss this point.

It clearly states that action is important.

I am more a believer that why The Secret works is more psychological than a genie up in the sky granting all my wishes, but it definitely works for me and I'm not just saying this it works EVERY TIME.

I have big goals and with The Secret I'm certain I'll achieve everyone.

      Agree with this.

You know what I am glad that you have figured this out because this took me about 8 years to figure out. I would flitter from one book to the next maybe using some of the concepts and feeling good for a week tops then I would go onto the next. Ok there was some learnings that stuck but very little that was accesible to me in my every day life.

I then realised that if I wanted to use something effectively then I should literally study it like I am studying for an exam. I even started writing down questions and coming back and ansering them later - this really helped. I recommed that anyone reading this post truly follow this and the OP posters advice. Cheers.

Without knowing The Secret, IMHO for most books you need to actively digest them. Taking notes, drawing mindmaps, etc. And of course taking action. Or maybe I'm missing the point here?

    Chris,

Well that's all great but if you fail to take action 'mastering' a book won't do you no good. It's all theory.

If you belief that you just need to sit in your room, visualize a red bike, get your emotions evolved, meditate on it and believing its gonna show up magically in the morning is plain hogwash.

Master the way you take action. Which does NOT mean dreaming up something you wish you would have, but getting off your ass.

    Have fun

I'd advise you to read the post clearly before you comment, I've said that action was important, that's what I missed when I just 'read' the book rather than studied it.

What I meant by Master the book, is take it and apply it into your life, that's what mastering something means. I completely agree with what you've said and I'd already said it above if you take the time to read the posts properly.

      Thanks

        Thx for the clarification..

As you can see my post came just a few minutes behind your clarification so I missed yours because I was writing my response to your first post.

And btw critics of The Secret don't miss this, they get it right that most people believing in The Secret forget to take action.

You have only to go on ''the secret forums" to find post after post about how to visualize winning the lottery... which none of them really ever do.

The only great thing about The Secret is the way it has been marketed imo. That's one thing we as marketeers can study and learn greatly from.

I don't agree. Reading a variety of books provides more info and better perspective. I use a little from alot of books on sales, marketing, motivation, etc. For instance, I read The Greatest Miracle in the World (1975), by Og Mandino and used one idea. A year later, I was in my dream home and wasnt really sure what happened. Didn't understand it til much, much later... DIVERSIFY
    Enjoy life!

      Good post!

It's been my experience that nothing works, unless I take action and believe that whatever I am studying, or working on will have good results.

In other words, I have worked my tail off on different projects, but didn't really believe that I would have success. It's almost like my lack of belief canceled out all of my action.

When I was able to become aware of my self sabotaging thoughts and correct them, then I started to experience progress and success.

Yup your right on reading books that will never help if you did not put a lot of effort or understanding them and putting them in good used. Putting them in good used is really different or putting them by your heart and doing what they did will help you. It's just like reading an instruction manual when you just read instruction manual and didn't understand yes it will never help but when you follow instruction in the manual will really help you a lot.

Here's the thing I have learned in my life. Someone would say Jeff read this book. I would then go out and buy that book and read it. After hours of reading the book I might have a few concepts that interested me however I didn't know what to do with them or I didn't put them into action.

Then one day I was told to get a book but this time I did a little research into what the book offered. Then I did something I had never done before. I started asking new questions before I read the book.

        Things like;

        1) What can this book offer me?
        2) What benifits would I get from this book?
        3) What can I do with those benifits?
        4) Where can I apply these things in my life/business?
        5) Is there anything else that I am not thinking of right now that will help me when I read this book?

When you start ask questions like this what you are doing is setting an intentsion on what it is you really want. It gives you a very clear focus and direction on where you want to go and what you want to learn.

Now onto the Secret. This has never been a secret that visualization and the emotions behind that visualization are something special. The only diffrence between what people like Proctor, Robbins or any of the other Gu'rus out there have been teaching is only in the presentation. The success forumla has always been the same.

        1) Figure out what you want. Get clear on that outcome.
        2) Create a plan. Rehearse your outcome.
        3) Take massive action.
        4) Measure your results.
        5) If your not getting what you want change your approach.

        Jeff

One the problems is that people read books but then can never figure out how to implement.

This is why people are always looking for the "Secret."

I recommend to read a book - build up your entrepreneurial mind set - and then connect with some one already successful in your feild who can guide you and teach you how to implement.
