Thought analysis and silencing the mind

If we really observe there are thousands of thoughts crossing our mind everyday. However very small percentage of those thoughts are really productive.

Here is the analysis of my own thoughts pattern:

1. 30% of my thoughts are of the past; thinking about what already happened, good things, bad ones etc.
2. 40% of my thoughts are about the future, events that may happen or rather what I feel might happen. I also keep brooding over my reactions if those events happen.
3. 20% are just random thoughts. They have no foundations. These thoughts just come and go like a clutter.
4. 10% are actually focused thoughts; related to my dreams, goals, plan of actions etc.

Having done my own thought analysis, I have come to this enlightening conclusion that only those 10% of the thoughts are going to be responsible for my actual future and my destiny. So I need to leverage those thoughts.

I am trying to apply one beautiful solution- 'To silence my mind' i.e to free my mind from the bondages of the past and anxieties of future and also of the unnecessary clutter. I am trying to restrain my reactions to other people's actions. This is helping me to remain in harmony with myself.

This practice is helping me to find answers to the essential questions of life and the things that I must do in order to make my life better.

How much I will be benefited out of this practice, only time will tell. But I am positive about it.

  • Great analysis. I am now thinking of doing the same thing. Sounds interesting.

The one thing people forget is; to have a great mind, you must have a great diet.

You cannot put garbage into your body such as refined sugars and preservatives and expect to think at your highest possible levels.

We didn't all of a sudden start breeding ritalin deficient children. They are being drugged because their diet has caused them not to be able to focus and the pharmaceutical companies were quick to profit from it.

If you want a healthy mind you must have a healthy body and diet.

structured thought is where it all starts and i love the idea of a thought analysis. very clever. its crazy how you start to notice what thoughts you actually have in one day that have no good effect for you at all. I try police my thoughts all day everyday and do my best to not allow any negative thoughts in. i think i want to try the thought analysis and see if im doing well or not

This is a great post - I want to get the message out that more people should be taking note of what their minds are telling them.

I only gained the ability to silence my mind (still very much an ongoing process!) after I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome and realised how much energy negative thinking really takes from us. It has only really been this year where I have had massive breakthroughs in this process and I am excited to keep going. It is very empowering once you start to notice the difference.

I was just reading a book today which states that compulsive thinking is actually an addiction, and it is one that most people aren't even aware is a problem. I'm just so grateful for the personal development world that I have become aware of this.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Its true. Negative and compulsive thinking drain so much of our creative energy. Imagine how much we can accomplish, if we could only learn the art of controlling those negative and non productive thoughts.

Like you even I am on the road of experimentation and experiencing great results. Not only it helps us to be be positive in life but it also creates a positive atmosphere around us. Everyone around us are positively touched in this process.

Great activity. I tried it and anylyze my thought. Here's the result: 50% focused on the present. 25%on the future. 10%overthinking things. 10% on improving myself. 5% on creating scenarios in my head that are most likely not to happen in reality.

That's one great activity to try. Time to see and analyse where I spend most of my time. I'll definitely try it.
