Learning the hard way

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

There are times when we want to learn something and we want it the hard way. Meaning we have to challenge ourselves and give out our best and it feels so right if we achieve it.

I always have this in my system wherein I think of something that I am not really good at and I want to learn it. I look for ways to achieve it and if I have to choose what category I will use, I will have to choose the "HARD" level.

It just gives me the sense of fulfillment if I do it that way. Do you feel that way too? What are your views about this?

Hi Jack,

I like to ease myself in to something. Start at a beginner level and then take it step by step. That said, I want to work my way up to the "HARD" level, because I know whatever is going to make me strech is going to make me grow. Challenges are just opportunities for learning and growth.

I see your point Neseret, that is one thing that makes me think why I always see things by its complicated side? It motivates me somehow. Thanks for your view about this.

LEARNING is a step by step process.
Everything can be learned on a process.
You can't always push yourself to learn something in a HARD way.
Yes, learning in a hardway works sometimes. But most of the time it doesn't.

I have always been one to get in the front car of a roller coaster.
Bring it on I say. That is where I thrive and perform my best. The bigger the challenge the better.

I think that is what you are saying also Jack?

  You have my point HomeComputerGames. It is like when I have accomplished something which I did with much effort I hold on the success so dearly with pride. Like what I posted on your thread, I am making a bucket list to do things that I'm not really good at like flying a plane.

I know a lot of people like this....

I would have to say, its only certain times when I'm like that...lets say someone tells me about something and I didn't truly understand it then I will take it upon myself to figure out more information about that topic....

business wise I think I do it everyday, because there is something new everyday so I have to keep up to date on all the business material!

I think you guys are nuts. If I could learn things the easy way, I would love to. Most everything I learned, it was the hard way, and man did that SUCK!

Don't get me wrong, I learned a lot from it, BUT, while you're learning the lesson, it really sucks!

For those of you who have learned the hard way, you know what I'm talking about.

I would much rather have had someone tell me, " hey man, what the heck are you doing? You don't want to do that, you want to do it this way."

But then, I probably wouldn't have listened anyways.

One thing is true, learning that way does build character.

  I understand what you mean Jack, and I agree with you. Most people will take the easy way out. So if you've gone the farther distance - and accomplished something greater, and grown that much more. (soul growth or ego trip?) Which reminds me of that Robert Frost poem...

  I've also learned a lot of things via the hard way. There was no choice, really. It was a matter of learn to do it soon or just forget about it. My learning was even more difficult, and still is to a degree, because I am a procrastinator. But now as good things are beginning to happen, I have overcome much of that procrastination and become more willing to try to do more on my own. If things still remain difficult, I am more likely to call in an expert rather than waste more time by learning on my own.
  
  There are limits as to how much can be accomplished by learning the hard way. A lot depends on the task at hand, the person and his or her abilities, motivation, and timeframe to reach certain goals.
