Stop Watching Others succeed and Start Living Your Own
defined by Webster, a habit is a distinctive
costume; a thing done often, an addiction.
In his best seller The 7 Habits of Highly
Effective People, Stephen Covey suggest
that creating a positive habit requires work
and focus in three dimensions
· Knowledge -"what to do"
· Skill -"how to do"
· Desire - "want to do"
Focusing on one out of the three or two of
the three is not enough. All three must be
given attention in order to establish positive
habits.
Although you define your habits, you are
not defined by them. You have the ability to
establish each and every habit as you see fit.
On my personal journey I've found desire-
"the want" to be the more challenging part of
the three. So I had to find motives deeper
than material possessions to use as driving
forces. One of which I found in dealing with
personal development.
In short, keep in mind that where you are
and where you want to be is a few habits
away. You can't expect to grow if you
continue to practice the same habits that
limit your growth.
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence,
then, is not an act, but a habit." -Aristotle
