Are You Playing Video Games? Or Are They Playing You?

My internet marketing business/lifestyle has had several different phases over the last 7 years:

-For the first 2 years, I worked a lot. Mainly spinning my wheels, but I did grow several email lists and had some success freelancing and with CPA offers.

-Then I spent 3 years getting sucked into video games. Shooters and RPGs did me in. I'd play for hours every night instead of working on my business. But I still had dreams of building a business.

-Over the last 2 years, I've been even more in dream mode. I have a child now, so a lot of off-work time goes to her. But even when I'm not with her, I've resorted to hours and hours of video games.

But now it's time for a new phase. Today I sold my PlayStation 4, and I'm putting my gaming PC up for sale.

My new phase is one of productivity and taking action.

I'll be building email lists and providing value to people.

Networking with other like-minded entrepreneurs and building real relationships with them- not just saying hi in the forums now and then.

Getting back into fitness, which I've neglected over the last 5 years.

Freelancing to keep cash flow positive and provide capital to build my business.

Hobbies such as gaming aren't bad. But when you get hooked on them (as I was) and they hold you back from what's most important, that is when it's time to put them aside for a while so you can do what you gotta do.

    Love this post. Love it!

Accountability is the first step in success (IMO) glad to see your taking action. And not just in one aspect of your life, in a number of avenues. Including fitness. There's no reason why you can't do it all, right?

Being a better, fitter, smart, wealthier version of yourself!

I look forward to connecting you with in the future, fellow entrepreneur. Thanks for this post, it helped.

    My two cents,
    -David

I praise you for breaking the chains that hold most people down!

I am not and never was a "player" of games (other than chess and monopoly - go figure) so I never had to grapple with your past issue.

The funny thing is that I am now heavily in the gaming niche! LOL!
I have started creating 2 major games and I am just about to launch a second gaming product for people trying or wanting to start a game company of their own.

I am interested if you can share, what consideration did you ever give to turning your gaming passion into a business (especially since you are a warrior)?

personally i had that in mind but over time i learned that spending to much time in front off a screen or playing games changes my brain chemisrty and make me more prone to depression..it was something i denied for several years ..but resently if i lay a new game or one i have played before i feel the difference in a few days ..

are yoiu focusing more on mobile gaming ..with pay to win/free to play revenue model

keep your gaming pc ..i used to game a lot to ..i spent 1 year in a 3 year period playing wow from bc to the beginning of cataclysm ..

step back and ask yourself what you get out of playing or what you got out of playing ..where you excelled and what you hated doing ..

don't look at it as a wasteof time look at it as an investment..and there is a huge fking chance after spening so much time in front of a screen for entertainment..you really may not want to build a buisines sitting in front of the screen ..

but there are thousands of ways to earn money outside of a job ..online and off ..explore ways to earn money that give you the same dopamine responses you get from playing games ..after all playing rpgs require a crap load of grinding that can be rather boring until you get that cool drop or that next level or the material to forge a item..

buisiness has a lot of time where it is rather tedious and the bam you produce something and you are like yeah i did that ..

if you ever listen to people 50 60 or 70..complaining about kids today playing games and how they used their imaginations ..take note of how many started drinking at like 12 and where pretty much alcholics by 20 ..

i can't play games anymore because i am a power leveler and tend to get promoted to leadership positions in guild and then listen to all the whiney slow poke who want to be carried through content ..i jplay games that i can be among the best o i don't play ..

One game is a TCG and the other is a hybrid RPG developing from a hybrid tabletop-like game play towards a software game-based action RPG with simulation elements.

The new launch for those interested in starting a game company will focus on TCG development and marketing with a digital version for software and mobile app applications. Since the focus is on TCG, they would most probably be free to play with card purchasing.

as someone who does not play games..are you sure your not comiting a kurt schilling ..as you develop games ..

have you at least played hearthstone ..wich is the gold standerd big tcg right now ..

at least with a tcg expanding it is like adding more cards ..where the development of an rpg ..of any type requires tens of millions of doller just to get what any of us who play them to be in the game ..features ..and endgame elements raiding guilds ..servers ..

what genra will your tcg be in..

    We're getting off topic unfortunately.

But getting back to the OP - I do in general what interests me the way I particularly approach it.

At the least, I would have made a contribution, as I have already, in the areas I have engaged in.

Game developers have already reviewed some of my concepts and have agreed that they represent what gaming is trying to become.

Nothing is a guaranteed success - only for one self never quitting and always learning.

past three or four posts things get off topic ..

but yeah i understand you ..

as someone who has paid a good aount of money in cash shops in games ..and ompeted with and been freinds with ..people who had no trouble dropping hundreds of dollars a weekend into a game ..

i got annoyed and turned to my real life income to work on ..because i get elitist and cometitive i hate falling behind in a games because lack of funds ..

and it is the whales ..the people who will spend 10s of thousands in a game a year ..who will make you your money ..

hehe.. isn't that silly ..i am not playing the games i like to play right now because i don't have the cash to be competitive ..

I really get connected with this post. I actually feels the same about video games. What my concern and priority is that I'll always prefer chess games as it is not only a creative idea for killing your boredom but also helps you in problem solving. I also highly recommend this to my friends and dear ones.

At the moment l put in an hour or so a week, but am tired of game formats.

Zelda, (Nintendo 64) the one with the moon, smashing the village had an excessively hard part in the middle of the game, with the dumb fish, l must have tried to get through it about 30 times before ditching the game.

Then l upgraded to Wii, and bought Zelda Twilight Princess, same crap, although l got stuck on parts of that for months on end. Although it was more of a tech, glitch that prevented me from finishing that game off.

Then Super Mario Galaxy, same thing, and unfortunately Super Mario Galaxy 2, same deal, (l couldn't not open a new level, without trying to get through the F***g difficult level with the dumb monkey, and no cheat angel in sight).

So, l may try it a few more times, but l guess the writing is on the wall, ditch the Wii for a WiiU, and hope that the next Zelda, or Super Mario has ditched the cheap trick of selling more games by making it near impossible to get past the half way mark.

PS I did complete Supermario Sunshine, so, l am hoping that they are cutting that crap out, for the latest ones?

actually i might have a slightly different view.. gaming is one of the better addictions to have and one of the easier addictions to morph into a positive thing for life ..

i have run into to many people with chemical or gambling adictions in the year or more sense this post went up.. i hope the changes paid off for the op.. though now i would tell ihim to upgrade his gaming rig to take up bit coin or crypto currency mining

    Here is the satanic level,....

Tried as hard as l could today, but could not get over 8,500, for the 10000 needed.

I want to strangle this frickin monkey, that or throw the game system on the road?

You cannot progress without getting through this, so it looks like another good game has come to an end.

Frickin Nintendo, let's just hope that they haven't chummied up with another evil corporation, and got some bad ideas.
