Which (non religious) songs inspire you? Songs you would listen when you are down? Songs which uplift your mood, that drive you and motivate you?

Here are some that immediately come to my mind. Some have amazing lyrics while some may have not-so-good lyrics but great music:

Affirmation - Savage Garden
I believe I can fly - R. Kelly
Till I Collapse - Eminem
Lose Yourself - Eminem
Eye of the Tiger - Survivor
It's my Life - Bon Jovi
Beautiful Day - U2
Rise - Pantera
I can see clearly now - Johnny Nash
We are the Champions - Queen
I Won't Back Down - Tom Petty
Thunderstruck - ACDC
Dream On - Led Zeppelin

What's on your playlist?

      Hi,

The song that inspire me is: Die Krupps - Alive.

I'm sure that not much people who know that song, so I'm posting the lyrics. Maybe, it will inspire you too.

Where's the hand that guided me
my cry within me is let me be
crossing the endless seas of pain
      fighting against torrential rain
it seems pain is the experience in life
      I'm sorely
tried by affliction in my life
I have to master this impossible situation
this driving force is my salvation

The world in my arms - I'm alive
Love is pain, pain is strife
In my world - I'm alive
      and I can't see danger - anymore

This driving force sets me in strife
that driving force that's in my life
Whatever the pain is - I must survive
      determination keeps me alive
this extreme situation makes me realize - I'm alive
it makes me realize it changed my life
Hope is the hand that guided me
secured by the hand that set me free.

I think the lyrics can refer to us, netmarketer. Sometime, we have to go through impossible situations and determination keep us alive. It change our life and we need a guided hands. Just my thoughts. Does it make sense?

Have a good day or evening.

    Kumar - from wikipedia:

Row, Row, Row Your Boat" is an English nursery rhyme, and a popular children's song/proverb, often sung as a round. It can also be an 'action' nursery rhyme where singers sit opposite one another and 'row' forwards and backwards with joined hands. The tune is credited to Eliphalet Oram Lyte in the publication The Franklin Square Song Collection (1881, New York) which also indicates that he adapted the lyric

Don't Worry Be Happy - what else is there to say? a real stress-reliever.

        Bob Marley songs:

Get Up Stand Up - when I feel oppressed and I need to empower myself
        3 Little Birds - stress reliever #2
Exodus - feel like travelling to places you've never seen before
No Woman, No Cry - when you feel like you've worked your @ass off for someone who didn't think highly of you and left you with all your money, hahahaha!

Career Opportunities - for the jobless and less choices in life
I Wanna Be Sedated - insomniacs unite!

        and lastly....

My Way by Frank Sinatra - if all else fails and you did your best and just be proud of what you accomplished, and then it's time to tie the rope and hang yourself before they hang you. Just kidding!

Here's the thing. I'm going to share with you a few of my favourites, however when I was talking with a friend of mine recently about this very topic, he made a profound statement. He said, "an inspirational song is most powerful if you listen to it when you are down and need it the most". It's true. An inspirational song can lift you when you are already up, though it's the times when you are down and the last thing that you want to do is face reality that you really should listen to it.

And if you want a real reality check, get an inspirational song and look yourself in the eye in a mirror while you listen to it!

Everyone's songs are going to be different. As long as the music lifts you up!

      Here's my suggestions anyway:

Lee Ann Womack "I hope you dance"

Tim McGraw "Like you were dying"

John Farnham and Olivia Newton John (Sydney 2000 Olympics) "Dare to dream"

If it makes your spine tingle... that's the one!

Cant believe I forgot "Dont Worry, Be Happy", "Chariots of Fire", and I'll definitely be looking at "My Way", and "How Deep is Your Love" in profoundly different ways going forward. When you believe
This is an amazing song about the power of hope and faith in this world. If there are ever any times when you’re losing hope, hang in there. The miracles you want to create in life comes from first believing in yourself (and others). They couldn’t have chosen better singers for this song too – Whitney and Mariah are undoubtedly two of the best singers ever.

Thank you for correcting this! I saw 2 people say that Led Zeppelin sang this song and I almost punched my computer screen.

I listen to different types of music for different tasks. If I am writing then I never listen to anything with lyrics. Instead I listen to Bach or Mozart.

Since I am involved in different markets with different styles I cater the music towards the style. Right now I am working with an art gallery so I am listening to Jazz while creating a photo gallery.

Yesterday I was working with a hiphop group, so I was listening to their music while designing to try to capture their essence.

When I was working with a mma gym, I would listen to heavy metal.

Most of the time I listen to stand up comedy while working. It keeps me laughing and doesn't take away my attention from my task. I prefer classic rock in most cases though.

Without music, my life would be empty and I'd have a hard time getting any work done at all. Music to me is an inspiration in itself...however, music that stands out for me, would be the following (this is actually from my current playlist, so I guess this is what's currently inspiring me) :

    Queen - Innuendo
    Peter Gabriel - Mercy Street/Red Rain/Secret World/More Than This/Biko
Loreena McKennitt - Caravanserai/Lady of Shallott/The Dark Night of the Soul
ABBA - Dancing Queen/The winner takes it all
Lisa Gerrard/Hans Zimmer - Gladiotor soundtrack ('Now we are free')
Celine Dion - To love you more/Pour que tu m'aimes encore
    Enigma - Seven Lives/Beyond the invisible/The roundabout
    Deep Forest - Bohème/Endangered species
    Madonna - Jump/Ray of Light
    Karl Jenkins - Adiemus/Kayama
    Within Temptation - Faster

Same with Devin T, it's not entirely which song but it's the mood of the song that lightens me up.

The first thing that entered my mind upon reading the thread title is
Bare Necessities" from the ol Jungle Book movie.

The movie was one of my favorites when I was a kid back in our old neighborhood, when all was so easy and careless

And then, fast forward 15 years (I'm 22 now), when I randomly heard that song from a classic songs radio station, it really brought those lovely childhood memories back. (violin music playing)

Moreover, it was only then that I realized how good the message of the song is.

"Look for the bare necessities, the simple bare necessities. Forget about your worries and your strife."

Call me old fashioned, but it's a really feel-good song for me!

Though I'm a Bangladeshi, but the national anthem of India (Jongono Mon Adhinayak) really inspires me as well as our national anthem (Amar Sonar Bangla). These songs obviously encourage us to serve the country and countrymen.

I have a massive preference for the classical compositions for upliftment and motivation. The composers of these have an intricate understand of the human make up and their music strikes a nerve that can have instantaneous positive effects.

    A few of my favorites:

    Mozart's Ode to Joy
    Beethoven's 5th Symphony
    Sleepers awake - Bach

Any song that has some strings of guitar in the beats are the songs I yearn for and in fact I can listen to them for the whole day. Soft rock stands out for me. Listen to the best of Ellie Goulding just keeps me motivated with full of hope. This lady has this unique and sweet voice that gives the songs she sings full of knowledge. Have you ever met an artist who performs with very much easy and comfort till you are amazed on how she does her. things. Burn is the best so from Ellie Goulding, Trust me I listen to this song more than 5 times a day and I cant just get enough of it.

Here is why choose these 3 songs and what was really inspire me at them:

    Eminem - Not afraid

I guess I had to, go to that place, to get to this one
Now some of you, might still be in that place
If you're trying to get out, just follow me
    I'll get you there

    Schiller - I feel you

I feel you, in every vein
In every beatin' of my heart
    Each breath I take
    I feel you, anyway
In every tear that I might shed
In every word I've never said

Sting - Shape of my heart

He deals the cards as a meditation
And those he plays never suspect
He doesn't play for the money he wins
    He don't play for respect

One of my favorite artist is Enigma. I basically grown up with them and I would love to share some of their best track including the lyrics that really inspire me every time when I have listening:

Enigma - The screen behind the mirror

    Here's the mirror
    Behind there is a screen
    Turn around
On both ways you can get in
    The experience of survival
Look around just people, can you hear their voice
Find the one who'll guide you to the limits of your choice
    The experience / of survival
Try to think about it ...
That's the chance to live your life and discover
    Try to think about it...

    Enigma - Gravity of love

Turn around and smell what you don't see
Close your eyes ... it is so clear
Here's the mirror, behind there is a screen
On both ways you can get in.
Don't think twice before you listen to your heart,
Follow the trace for a new start.
What you need and everything you'll feel
Is just a question of the deal.
In the eye of storm you'll see a lonely dove
The experience of survival is the key
    To the gravity of love...

Enigma - Silence must be heard

Look into the others eyes, many frustrations
Read between the lines, no words just vibrations
    Don't ignore hidden desires
Pay attention, you're playing with fire
Silence must be heard, noise should be observed
The time has come to learn, that silence...

    Schiller - Miles and miles

    How time can fade away,
there seems too much to say.
We stumble through the day miles and miles.
    My heart cannot divide,
    this feeling deep inside,
    how far from fear
    I lied miles and miles...

Here I come to find myself, catch the tide
Looking for a peace at the end of the line
Sometimes I can't help myself feel the tide
I'm all at sea and so unwise

I'm so afraid I'd lose your love as time goes by
But courage is a fire and a beacon so bright
The sunset builds a memory - our love signed
And all I see becomes a lie

Will I wash away, turning like a stone?
    I need a place where I belong
Call the setting sun to throw me down the road
And take me to a place called home!

The Lover After Me - Savage Garden
