Why Do People Blame Everybody But Themselves?

Blaming everybody but themselves.

I heard this saying mentioned many times on my timeline.

By both internet marketers and non-internet marketers alike.

By both my S'porean and non-S'porean friends.

And some even posted a video of Rocky Balboa chiding his son in that famous movie scene.

I have been keeping very quiet about this and did not comment. Instead I have been thinking and reflecting a lot upon this saying.

Why is that so? You may ask.

The reason is because I used to be such a person during childhood and younger days.

Still the question mark is why in most people's minds.

From the viewpoint of an extrovert - especially someone who is a team player and very influential - he or she sees this as an act of rebellion and disruption to the whole team.

Especially teachers, instructors and bosses.

And because most people are neutral and do not want to bring further disruption, they have to agree with that leader.

Here is my alternate view if I may post humbly.

By 3 scenarios to illustrate my point.

1. School

When you are in school and everyone is getting good grades but yours is an average.

Your teachers and parents start to worry and asked you why.

Yet you do not have an answer why.

All you know is despite working hard and doing your very best, you just cannot keep up with pace of others.

And because you can't keep up with the pace, others don't want to associate or work with you.

You are left on your own to work out things on your own most of the time.

Given the fact that the teacher has 40 students in the class and can only pay attention to those with greatest priorities, yours may not always be addressed at all times.

So when you see others doing better than you and people start to question or even make comparisons with others, how do you feel?

Do you feel inferior?

And if you do, it is easy to get into the mode of blaming everybody but yourself.

As you see others achieving what you feel you should have achieved.

But you just don't have a clue how and what to do to achieve it.

2. Sports

The same problem happens when you are in sports.

Doesn't matter what sport you are in.

What matters most is despite doing your best, you cannot keep up with the rest of your team.

As a result, your team don't want to associate let alone support you.

It is a matter of time before the instructor questions you about why your results are poorer than others, make comparisons to others and even asks you to leave.

3. Work

When you are at work - especially sales and marketing or telemarketing, the same scenario happens.

Because you are slow in learning, you find it difficult to keep up with the pace.

Especially when you are working as part of the team.

You worked hard.

But your results do not justify your efforts.

When your boss and some of your colleagues asked you why, you could not explain why.

And because you are slow, your colleagues might not want to associate or want you in their "inner circle" on what to do to keep your job in the company.

Do you see the picture of what I mean and why am I saying this?

I see that many times.

Including Donald Trump's Apprentice shows in which people have to work and produce results to justify why they should be employed by him.

So before you get judgmental on people who blamed everyone but themselves, please take the initiative to ask them what is it that is bothering them, listen to their innermost thoughts and then see what you can do to help them.

I rest my case here.

This is so true. As an English teacher I get jugmental if one of my kids is doing worse than the others, and tend to think the reason behind could be just being lazy. So I agree with you with finding out the reason behind it first. I guess a lot of times, we could even solve family problems by doing this.
