How do you handle the pressure?

At the first glance, it does sound like a simple question. We all have our own ways of handling the pressure at the personal level. Yet, I have to be honest about it. Something is not right in my situation. Either I'm getting old and some of the old defense mechanisms aren't as flexible and reliable as they used to be or maybe I'm playing the game at the completely different level with the new kinds of problems. It has become quite difficult for me to handle the pressure efficiently. When I was younger and with more available time I used to be a regular at my local gym. Then, I had to adapt and I switched to long walks outside. Yet, this isn't working for me anymore.

It goes without saying that the "final" solution is also the worst possible solution. I have seen that some of my colleagues are already deep into the zone of various painkillers and tranquilizers. When you hear and witness something like that first-hand, then you have to ask yourself, is this the only thing I'm going to be left with to do? There has to be some better and less harmful solution. But, at the same time, I would like to hear about some solution I can try myself and see them work for real. There are also some guys in my industry talking about meditation and other dimensions and stuff. They are desperately trying to look cool, but I know for sure that deep under everything is boiling with tension and pressure.

It is too early for retirement and it is too late for some radical moves. I'm talking about my own current situation. So, I would still like to believe that there's something better than this. Let me hear you. Have you found a way to handle the pressure the right way and most importantly more or less non-harmful way? Thx.

Handling pressure can be harnessed through experience. Of course pressure comes in different types and forms, but the best way to handle it is to constantly deal with the situation until you are use to the feeling...

Thx Tokama. So, what you are saying is that I should develop some kind of a pressure and stress resistance, lol. It does make a sense to me. The only trouble, though, is that I have noticed that the pressure constantly changes it's formes and intensities. So, we are talking about a serious and an experienced adversary, lol. Thx for the share. Appreciated.

I go out to do photos of a sunrise. Or just drive to the beach for half an hour after work. Half an hour doesn't make much difference in my life, but it does make a difference in stress handling.

This idea with the sunrise and photos is just great. I can only imagine what a half an hour walk can do for someone's health and stress management. In terms of a busy 24-hour day it doesn't mean a thing, but our heart should be extremely grateful. How to make myself to do so every single day or night, well, that's a different story, lol.

I have made some remedy go-tos...

If I feel tired mentally I will do something like play video games for 10 minutes to create inertia mentally...

If I feel overwhelmed I will use Transcendental_Meditation to process built up thoughts and also strengthen the brains ability to not get side-tracked.

If I feel unmotivated I will listen to or watch some motivational stuff by Erich Thomas or similar...

This has worked 99% of the time. I pay attention in my off hours to what helps with these and then will write them down to use when one of the above loses it's effects.

Aha, this is something new. So, you have structured and organized your troubles, so to speak, lol. You have these categories and you approach each of them individually. Have to give you a credit for it. Really haven't thought of that nor I heard that you can do it this way. Every pain should have its own cure. It makes a perfect sense. Really a genuine approach. My hat off. Cheers.

    Outsource it

All pressure is created in mind. When I breathe deeply, return to the moment, feeling happy and fun-loving and grateful, pressure dissolves. Pressure arises in me when I attempt to manipulate, to strain and strive. But when I just have fun and trust, and feel relaxed, pressure dissolves.

"Outsourcing." I thought for a moment you are suggesting me to find victims I can pass on my stress and frustration. Like a bad boss with good employees, lol. But now, I see a completely different point. Oh, that first word was such a catch, lol. Outsourcing. Can you really outsource your stress and troubles? That's a question worth asking for. Thx.

  • I meditate and I make it a point not to multitask. I noticed that when I force myself to do too much, I hardly get anything done. But when I focus completing a reasonable number of tasks every day and I do them well, I actually end up achieving more =)

An interesting approach, indeed. So, we can say that multitasking = prioritizing in your case. Right? The reasonable number of tasks sounds lovely to me till I reach a point of my unreasonable expectations, lol. Thx.

Personally, I go to a quiet place (usually the garden or my bedroom) and start praying for about 10-15 minutes. Of course is not all about asking The Lord ( the universe, higher being) to relieve the pressure and that's it. It's all about being grateful first for what you have and what you have accomplished so far.

That last line about being grateful and probably happy with what you have right now. Then on the other side, maybe all that pressure comes as a result of our desire to achieve and get more. You keep pushing yourself to achieve more. Perhaps, the stress is our body's way of telling us to slow down or ease up the pressure. I really don't know. Thanks for this helpful idea. Cheers! LR
