Aim For 'Good Enough' - Perfection Is For LOSERS!

What if i tell you that aiming for perfection in everything you do is actually a form of paralysis and procrastination, a form of low self-esteem, and a cause of not living up to your potential?

The reason for that is because there's so much things that happen in this world, there's so much activity that no single product or video or article or website that you make is going to make a difference, if you focus on everything having to be perfect you'll never actually get anything ******* done!

This is because the subject of "good enough" and the level people expect when you say "good enough" is fairly universal. When you create a website, a video or any other creative content, most people pretty much agree on what "good enough" is, that doesn't mean that they have the exact same definition but they have a close enough approximation of what a good enough video looks like, what a good enough article looks like a good enough and what a good enough product looks.

Perfect is a different game though. Perfect is an ideal term which means having absolutely nothing wrong with what you've created. The problem starts here because there's no such thing as perfect, so perfect is inherently infinite!

You might spend five hours making a website, focusing on making it just good enough and it looks great and works great, or you might choose to spend three months working on website making sure it's perfect, when in reality there's no such thing since you can't even judge perfect because even with it looks perfect to you it might not look perfect to somebody.

Going for "perfect" doesn't even mean that it's actually is going to work and actually view, conversions or whatever it is you're looking for. You're essentially spending an unbelievable amount of time on something with no guarantees of and improvement, when you could have used this time to make 5 or 10 videos or articles or products!

The more things you can just accept as "good enough" and move on, the more you could get done. Never compromise on the level of quality you're looking for, don't make a crappy video just for the sake of making a video every day. Don't go to the gym, do 3 sets and leave just for the sake of daily workouts. You should have a minimal level of quality as a benchmark but never fall into the trap of wasting incredible amounts of time focusing on nuances and trying to perfect something where quality is less important than quality!

Remember, in a world of noise where massive action is required, overtly focusing on quality is just a way to procrastinate and lose. Even the great Steve Jobs who was known as a hardcore idealist and perfectionist for Apple's products would ship his products with flaws, knowing that perfection would take too long.

Even the great Steve Jobs launched the first iPhone without many features like MMS, apps, and copy and paste that were not supported at release. It's better to start and fix it then to focus on perfection and never get it done.

Find your "good enough" level and stick to it, it'll allow you to get so much more done.

I agree that someone is hard to tell which one is a more acceptable solution. Of course, this good enough approach can help you do a lot of things. I admire the good old perfectionists who can also get stuck in a dead-end street because of their hard to accomplish goals and expectations. However, you should beware of this good enough stuff. Why? I'm afraid that this is a shortcut for the mediocre zone. You know what I mean, don't you? Good enough today can make me believe that good enough is OK for tomorrow and just any other day. The next thing you know you are a good enough guy head to toe. At the same time, you said a goodbye to the top quality and perfectionism in a silent way. So, if you want to be good enough for a limited period of time that is totally acceptable, but if you plan to include it as a long term strategy, then I'm afraid this is not going to end up well. Cheers!

      I'll just quote the article:

Now you are talking, lol. I totally agree! We should all have our own minimum level of quality. This should be a standard and a red line you simply don't cross. Just like a have my minimum in terms of price. I also have my minimum regarding quality. If I can't write it the right way, then I'm not going to write it at all. You know those Hollywood actors who accept some ridiculous movie roles for the ridiculously high sums of money. That's the thing with all other things in life. You sacrifice the quality now and you pay the price later.

greatness and perfection are far from the same thing ..

i like to cook..but would never be a chef ..as i like to change things a little each time i cook ..based on my taste ..because i know what tastes good to me .. sometimes i cook something new and it usually turns out god enough ..

fast food chains do thing perfect so you get the same taste every one you go to ..granted there are mistakes but it's a system designed to be run by mostly teen and 20 somethings ..

but it will never be great food ..and in a few years when robots are doing half those jobs .. it will be even more ..perfect ..

see you bosses at jobs .. want you to be perfect because your mistakes could cost them lots of money..this is why schools train you to not make mistakes ..

but you get into a plane .. that thing is off course untill it is about ready to land .. because the perfect path would be streigh from one airport to the next ..but the greatest one get the plan into the jets streams ..

I'm not sure anything can really be perfect so I agree to a degree however I am not convinced that aiming for 'good enough' is a solution either.

I would say that the aim should be the best and that way as things evolve and change you can upgrade to the newest form of the best.

Your example of the iPhone is a good one, Apple wouldn't have released any versions that were half-arsed, they were always cutting edge at the time and of the highest level of sophistication the the current market.

I am a big believer in over-delivery and I won't ever deliver anything that is mediocre or 'passable' I think that is a little bit of a cop out.

We are born 100% whole and complete.

    Completely deserving of everything!

We can and deserve it all the split second we enter our meat suit. As a swaddling babe LOL. God/The Universe is loving, unlimited, Infinite, and showers you with everything. Only a limited consciousness/mind blocks the flow of everything, with silly little ideas contrary to abundance

I agree with the point you're trying to make. Perfection can only be attained with the passage of time and sometimes aiming for that ruins the real objective. Perfection is in the eye of a person to whom you're providing service to. It is he/she who judges that whether you deserve to be called a perfectionist in your field or not. A self proclaimed recognition won't turn the trick. Therefore , always try to give your best. That's the only thing we can aim for in a limited amount of time.

I think it differs from people to people

    what is "perfection"

For most successful people perfection means things that work and is accepted by the majority

I dont think anyone strives for "perfection" on a god level

If you try to be perfect to the extreme , sure it will create issues
    and
aiming for good enough could lead to mediocrity

there will always be people who find some imperfections in what you do
    and
there will always be people who tell you can be better than just "good enough"

    But then

there are people who say " if you aim for 1000 , you may achieve atleast a 100 but if you aim for 100 then you may achieve a 10 and thats not good"

Striving for the the maximum best in the given situation is whats needed

tommorrow may bring something that makes the perfection obsolete
