Would you take a free living money for a life redundancy?

If someone hypothetically offered you the same money you earn now in return for nothing. But if you accepted it you could not pursue anything that interested you. Would you take it? Just curious, been thinking about this a bit recently.

The funny thing is that it's a real scenario. If someone gets money (gets rewarded) for not doing anything he most likely won't get the willpower and motivation to put in any more work.

This is called welfare and I don't see many people on welfare going after their dreams, so no, no thank you.

Thanks Wayne. I think you have summed up the debate quite well. Very interesting and accurate comparing it to welfare, I never thought about it that way but it really hit the nail on the head.

I am on what you call "welfare" due to poor health that prevents me from holding a regular job. But my work as a writer/editor/proofreader enables me to make money, keep my mind active, pay medical bills and much more.

However, I know what you mean by some people on welfare for no good reason become lazy.

This is actually a great idea for a movie, lol. I turned down a client who wanted my services only for himself. Now, I'm thinking. How much money I need to get to give up on writing completely? Really, I'm not sure. Sometimes, I'm so lucky that some things will be always a part of fiction never quite real. Great question, btw. Thx.

you know how many people are sniffing around online looking for that easy way to make money with little work.. i doubt they will come forward in this post ..

i personally need to work to control my bi polar disorder .. i did the laying on my back in pain thing for a few years .. had my taste of mini retirement .. saw what not working after they retired did to my parents ..

there is a difference between being rich and being wealthy .. and the definition of wealth .. is that you have assets that produce an income that can support you lifestyle so you chose to work ..

If I can't have the option of pursuing my dreams, then I am taking a pass on that.

Hi Shana, Thanks for the input. This is exactly the response I was hoping the question would inspire in people. Good for you and best of luck.

  • No... I like what I'm doing too much to give it up. And I've had a lot of success doing what I do and I expect to see more success in the future. I don't think that money would be enough to cover the future earnings I would lose if I stopped working now.
