How do you deal with the Christmas shutdown period?

This is my first Christmas as a business owner and without a salaried role I was interested to know how anyone in the same situation is approaching the Christmas period.

While my cash flow is good, I'm not yet in the position where I can take a two to three-week holiday in line with when businesses close so I know I need to have a stream of work lined up for the duration.

How do you sell people a service which you will technically be delivering while they're on their break? Hustling for new contracts at this stage of the year is too long a lead time for the work I do, but there are only so many hours in the day which I can cram in and save up for.

I'm OK with the fact that Ill probably only get a couple of days complete break to spend with the family but balancing out the work as a freelancer is going to be a bit of a challenge so I'd be interested to know if anyone has any advice around this?

In previous years I had invested time and funds to grow a supplements business (which is huge this day) and customers are on autoship so that takes care of business. Think residual income and you'll never look back again.

      Thanks that's great advice.
I'm a little out of time to build a second business in time for Christmas this year but a secondary income is on my agenda for 2017 for sure.
Thanks for your comment and congratulations on building two successful businesses.

If you would have saved 10% of the last 11 months earnings this wouldn't even be an issue.

From someone who is used to the "no work, no pay" freelancing system...

I just enjoy the holidays myself and prepare to dip into my savings during the holidays. And then come January, I hustle, hustle, hustle, and make up for lost time.

Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it eventually.

I use an automatic savings account (www.digit.co) to save money all year long and spend over the Christmas/New Year holidays. I think it's crucial that people get some time off during the holidays to help recharge and get ready for the new year.
