Absolutes Will Kill You

Rant coming so be warned.

I read everyday at this forum stuff like...

"Put on YOUR blog first THEN submit to EZA"

"You MUST build a list to make money"

"Long copy converts better than short copy"

and blah, blah, blah.

Absolutes will KILL you in this business.

Anybody who says that you MUST do something a certain way is leading
you down a highway to hell and back.

Test, test, test, test, test, test, test.

What works for Joe Schmo may NOT work for you.

End of rant.

It's true that not everything that works for someone will work for someone else.

Everyone must test what will work best for each. At the end it's all about how you implement the method you might be learning for yourself.

I don't think any marketer does EVERYTHING the very same way.

A MUST won't be the correct word, perhaps a "why don't you start..." could be more apropiate.

    K.

Surely that applies when someone tells you NOT to
    do something too?

So, would your post be better if it was changed to
    read:

"Absolutes might KILL you in this business"

If you prefer the word might John, that's fine.

Totally agree with you on this. There is nothing definite. In fact, those who try out of box are more successful (not always, though).

There are certain things which work for sure and people say that is the BEST thing to do. But it is NOT THE ONLY WAY to do it. Just because someone earned more money by freelance writing than article writing (bum marketing) doesn't mean the former is better than the latter. It is just that freelance writing has worked for him/her.

You said it best in the last line:
What works for Joe Schmo may NOT work for you.

Also what works today may not work tomorrow and what works tomorrow may not work the day after tomorrow. Look how many previously "killer strategies", i.e made for adsense sites etc, are now dead in the water.

So we've come to another list of Absolutes, right?

    * You MUST find your own way in this biz.
    * For this you MUST follow the methods you are learning from someone, but you MUST always remain sober and critique.
    * In order to TEST something you MUST try it the way you are shown and make own improvements.
    * When you gain some experience you MUST try and invent your own approaches.

Thanks Steven, I agree with your statement. I wonder why gurus always go around telling people they must do their methods in order for something to work, when their methods might not work for everyone.

This is really true. Each person is unique and we can just give advice on what works for us and it will just depend on the person if he or she takes it.
