Developing a career in Digital Marketing - Best route?

Hi guys, hopefully this is the right place to post.

Seeking advice on how to get into Digital Marketing as a career.

In particular:
- Qualifications needed e.g. courses I can take online, or offline.
- Experience that would help
- Anything I can do to make my resume / CV more appealing, for entry level Digital Marketing jobs.

I have always loved web developing and fiddling about with WordPress and ranking my websites higher on Google through SEO efforts. Now I want to develop a career in this in order to develop existing skills and knowledge.

Has anyone else had this career change? Any tips for to become an attractive candidate at entry level? I currently manage my own website as a hobby about Horror Movies.

Thanks

EDIT: Did it, I've been in Digital Marketing for 3 months now. In my dream job!

Making it in the online world is about lots of hard work and dedication. I think the thing that catches most people is they think this is something they can come in and push a few buttons and just make money appear. I know I thought like this for a long time too.

It's not until I really started taking action online that I really started to make something happen. With all my halfhearted efforts I never truly got anything to work. I suddenly stopped jumping from program to program and committed to making something work. I started online writing.

I started putting myself out there and slowly started to get jobs and suddenly I started to realize that this making money online thing really does work but the main ingredient is WORK!

YOU'VE GOT TO PUT IN THE WORK!

If you have the work ethic and the relentless drive I tell you there is nothing that can stop you from building a successful business online.

Thanks. Of course, I agree and understand that this isn't something you jump into and *poof* money starts falling from trees.

It's something I want to commit to for decades and I'm willing to put the legwork in. Work ethic is not the problem, it's the starting point, it's the entry level. You say you started online writing? Did you begin writing for your own website, was it for a friend, an actual employment?

      Again, thanks for your input

    My 2 cents.

Be very very very very careful who you trust in this field/business. There are a lot scammers and no one will tell you about it but I will. I am also new to internet marketing; however, I have been in and out of it for a while now (about 2 and a half years).

I would love to join forces with you. Here are some free tips for you... Hopefully they help...

You have to have the following:

    - diligence ( keep going read more, connect more, talk, have a purpose on WHY you are getting into internet marketing and most of all stand out and offer something that is a little different from the competition.)

In internet marketing there are really only 2 ways to make money online.. Doesn't matter what anyone tells you there are 2 ways... The 2 ways are this...

Either market someone else's product as an affiliate or create your own product, service or program and get others to promote it for you.

Depending on what niche you get into a lot will depend on that too.

There is something called Evergreen niche markets which are the most popular and it is suggested that you choose a plan that entails one of the following: Health/fitness, Love dating and relationships, or how to make money online.

If you already have an idea that is outside of these niches great but it is suggested that you choose something related to the one's mentioned above.

If you have any other questions and I am able to answer them I will.. just let me know and welcome!

Thanks for your two cents It is appreciated.

I've got the work ethic I just need a point to get stuck into. I've got my own website which I work on in my spare time but I want to develop a career in Digital Marketing. I'm just wondering on how others made this jump.

I do like the idea of the evergreen niche markets. My website is in movies (horror movies).

I will keep you in mind friend

You are very welcome! Anytime! I love helping others!

What would you like to sell? You can also build your blog up and you can also use ads to drive more traffic to your site.

You can sell a service related to your movie blog or you can become an authority site. Any authority site is a site that people trust to get the latest information about a particular topic or subject... Once you have a big enough audience you can sell ad space on your site though different advertisers.

Hope this helps. I wish you all the best and I will keep you posted on some other community stuff I have coming up!!

let me answer you by trying to confuse the hell out of you ..

there are probably 500 ways or 5000 way or an ever growing number of ways to digitally market products of any type ..

and because virtually every business today and everyone trying to find work need to use the internet to market ..

the old business everyone use to want to start before the internet came along was a restaurant ..granted people still open those if they want a bricks and mortar..

how many years of schooling or education did it take before you got your job or the credentials to get your job .

if you want a carreer in marketing digital or not .. how much have you studied any kind of marketing at this point .

what products would you feel comfortable marketing . what services .. you can learn how to market service businesses online and then become a marketing consultant .

which is realy kind of what you are asking if you are not going to have your own products to market . option two is affiliate marketing which there is a sub forum on this site with information.. or you can build a carrer as a digital marketing consultant ..where you actually do the marketing for service businesses

You could look around on Fiverr to see what others that have your skill set are offering. Just knowing wordpress puts you far ahead of a lot of others. Keep taking steps forwards.

It isn't. This is the mindset forum. You need to move this thread into general discussion where you'll get all the general advice you can eat.

Yes, l second the list of things above related to having to learn to make money online is BS.

That is if you have graphic skills!

If you do, then go to Graphicriver and try to get into Creativemarket, stick with one thing til you crack it, (probably not logos, flyers preferably) and wealth will follow.

Business or graphic courses only teach theory, they cannot teach how to make wealth and outsmart the majority out there that can't.
