In posting on forums or other Internet Marketing tools, do you consider following some proper etiquette? I personally would consider having some knowledge on proper internet marketing etiquette.

Can you give me a better understanding of what you mean. As far as posting on forums, I think in depends on which forum you are in. Some pretty much dont have any etiquette but Im not gonna name names.

You are at the best forum now though. Read through some threads and see how people interact.

Yes, I've noticed the the level of etiquette really depends on the forum or with IM's the other person that you're talking to. There's no ONE answer to etiquette across the board, the best strategy is, as Kenster said, spend some time reading around the forum in question and see what standards others have set.

In my opinion, proper forum etiquette is mostly about not spamming. I sometimes will join a forum thinking it's going to be a great resource, only to find that there are no "real people" there, just spammers, who are not human in my book.

That doesn't mean I think forums shouldn't be used for promoting your business; of course they should if that's their purpose, and I do it myself, obviously. But I think building relationships is more important than shoving links and offers down everybody's throat the minute a person arrives. But nobody wants to take the time to build trust before the sales pitch begins.

I also hate scammers but that's a whole 'nother story.

All good thoughts on forum etiquette but if you're asking about more broad marketing etiquette (email, working relationships, customer service) I think there's only one simple reply:

Be the type of person you want to work with and buy from.

My rule of thumb is what I call the mom test: If I'd be ashamed to tell my mother about my etiquette, I'm doing something wrong.

Generally I ether always make (or try to) my thanks gracious and fulfilling.

I also try to add something to the post rather than just a "thanks for the post" style hit and run comment.

My biggest ethos is to make sure I always add at least three lines of text to any post, though for some it's pushing the boundaries.

Thanks for your replies. As i've observed in some forums, a nice thread would sometimes get ugly because of some nonsense replies. That is what I meant with etiquette. I think it is in our system as a person to know the right words to use and avoid hurting other users feelings about their post.
