Ok, this is my story

I make a full living from Internet Marketing, I pay my mortgage thanks to adsense + I make over 5K+ per month in other online income. I have an amazing house (old but lovely) close to the beach and working towards launching my future WSO products.

Everything I do is for my 4 year old boy and my brand new 3 month old baby boy... and obviously for my wife.

My problem?
I have very little friends that I can share my exciting about internet marketing and making a better life for my family. The mentality here where I live is... watch sports, go to the pub, get f*** drunk and go to bed..

Everytime I try to explain to another "potential male" guy about my business, they automatic change the topic or try to avoid it....

Pretty much I will love to be able to talk to "friends" about what I do... to share my passion towards achieving a good future for my family thanks to my IM business ...

anyone out there with some kind words... link building while you are down sucks always 3 times more...
#bloody #gosh

hey mate, im a fellow aussie too.

hmm, im just starting out with IM and have yet make that sort of income, but I can imagine it would be a bit of a downer not to be able to share that kind of success with friends.

I suppose the reality of it is that most people aren't entrepreneurs and are probably somewhat intimidated by your business skills...

Still, don't dismay, things like this have a way of fixing themselves... for now, explain the merits of high PR backlinks to your kids

Rankinghero, sorry you don't have the support you need. Sometimes the only way to find true like minded folk is online - build online friendships with people who can enjoy your success and appreciate the effort it's taken to get there. I do envy the regions with a high population density where there is likely to be a number of IM folk who can get together. Having said that, there are quite a few Aussie warriors. I'm not much help, I know, except to say hang in there, you're doing great.

Out of interest, where in Aus are you?

    hi rankinghero

i too have the same problem with my friends and family. over here, most people have a rough idea about what IM is about but believe it to be 'just on of those scam' thing.

i am an IM newbie and so get excited about the new ideas i want to try and all the learnings i am doing.

everytime i share with my friends and family about what i want to do and all the excitement i feel, i get lacklustre responses like 'good for you' and thats it. nobody wants to talk about it further. boys, clubbing, music supercedes getting yourself out of the rat race. people here believe in a stable income by being an employee.

so these days, i just keep IM to myself and my only Im friend: my laptop. i told myself not to let these ppl bring me down because it will just take me away from my goals.

ANYHOW, what i want to say to you is if your real friends do not lend you a ear or support you, you have your virtual friends here on the WF

    You can count on me!

I would expect a lot of people out there would want learn from you - forming a local 'mastermind' group would be a good start - you could easily position yourself as an expert.

    Advertise it here and locally.

If you are confident enough you could offer to give a free talk to local social groups about earning a full time living from home - I bet if you placed an ad in a local paper you would get plenty of interest.

The people that attend those 'free' evenings may well become clients of your brand new consultancy service, and you would be sure to meet many new like-minded friends.

If you haven't already, set up a blog specifically about your life working from home, this will attract people and give you a diversion from the day to day grind - plus you will be able to 'give back'. to the newbies out there.

    Just food for thought.

Audrey: I'm in small beach holiday town of Merimbula - NSW - thanks for the friend request.

Cheer up.. Business is business, friends are friends, I am pretty sure there is some hobby which you will like to do after your work, find a social circle over there and pretty soon you will find a couple of friends who may not know about internet marketing, but shares a common interest with you. Once you mix business and socializing together, its hard to differentiate them again. And, I'll be your neighboring country friend (Singapore) Hahaha... Been to Australia a couple of times, Love the local produces like honey and nougats.. I especially love the nougat chocolate known as "rocky road" , Gosh, thinking about it makes my mouth waters.. That delicious piece of nougat plus chocolate plus marshmallows plus nuts plus plus plus! hahaha.. If I ever dropped by Australia for a visit I will make it a point to tell ya~! Meanwhile,

    Hi rankinghero,

I've been online myself for many years, and it's been my experience that people that aren't into the "Making a living online", just don't get it. Personally, I don't try to explain it to friends, cause they just don't get it, they don't comprehend the kind of money, success or in some cases the frustration that we can all go thru.

I remember trying to show one my my commission checks to someone and they turned and asked me if I printed it myself. So after that I just don't waste my time. Unfortunetly, I found that alot of my friends just didn't have the same mindset.

The most important thing in life, is family. You have an extended family and friends right here online in this forum. And with that we all know and understand what it's like, the frustrations, the success, the money that we can or make.

By sharing online with like minds, we all help one another continue on our journey, we are your friends and your support network, right here...

So chin up rankinghero, we're here for you, and just know that when you're down or frustrated, just come and talk with us, and you'll find an overflow of support

    To your success, my friend

    ****, seriously, how boring.

I love sports and a beer, and I am currently seriously considering emigrating to Oz, but that is just too damn boring if it occurs too frequently.

Is that all that OZ has to offer?

Surely somewhere near you are people who would cherish the words of wisdom you could give them through your successes. Expand your group of friends to include those who would happily listen to and profit by your experiences.

"Every one of us, unconsciously, works out a personal philosophy of life, by which we are guided, inspired, and corrected, as time goes on. It is this philosophy by which we measure out our days, and by which we advertise to all about us the man, or woman, that we are. . . . It takes but a brief time to scent the life philosophy of anyone. It is defined in the conversation, in the look of the eye, and in the general mien of the person. It has no hiding place. It's like the perfume of the flower -- unseen, but known almost instantly. It is the possession of the successful, and the happy. And it can be greatly embellished by the absorption of ideas and experiences of the useful of this earth." George Matthew Adams

    Hi there!

Your post reminded me of something a very good friend of mine posted a few days ago on the membership site we're both part of.

He shared with us that his wife is now dying of inoperable cancer and he is so glad to be able to spend every minute of the day at home with her - this is only possible because of the money he makes online.

The purpose of his post was to encourage those finding it difficult to KEEP ON GOING.

I understand what you are saying about your offline friends. But it is possible to make wonderful friends online too who will understand exactly what you're talking about. When you need a break from IM you can go enjoy your offline friends!

hello rankinghero. i'm new to forum-ing...not so new to IM. and i just wanted to say thanks for your post. i have taken a long time and still am not making any money. i tried to keep it all to myself, do it myself, and not be in the forum. (or anywhere). i've experienced the lack of support myself out here...by myself.

so now, since joining WF i am so so so coming around! it's posts like yours that help so much too, because to see all the support you get is unbelievably encouraging that this is so right to be here.

so i guess what i'd like to say too, is thanks for sharing. it's so encouraging to see the support here and that keeps me going too.

i have seen a little curiosity/interest from my family/friends...but that quickly turns to indifference or disinterest when they see me still struggling and hanging in there. so for me, joining WF has been the best thing i've done in 5 years. ! ya. 5 years. well...all the stuff, you know... but i have big hopes it's gonna get a lot lot better now. but only because i'm staying right here...with the like minds....and this is really good.

thank you everyone i hope to contribute soon soon soon.

You prove the importance of a friend in a person's life. you can get social on the net via social sites like Facebook, Orkut or MySpace. You can cmake friends on the net and chat with them. May be you will very soon find some persons who will love to hear you. You can also make an ebook on your success road map and give it out for free - this way you will get a lot of friends who will be more than eager to listen to you. Last but not the least - give max importance to you online business than anything else as it is your Bread And Butter. By the way you have your biggest listeners at home - your FAMILY.

As soon as I started reading your post I kind of knew or thought, it might be an Australian - somehow we just don't want to know about IM. Do we? Or is it 'tall poppy syndrome'? Well done and you have a right to feel excited. But look for others like you - join WA meetings in your town - don't ask the average Joe to share your success stories. It won't give you any joy.

I have to tell you that what you've got isn't uncommon, and you don't have to be on the internet to feel this kind of isolation. But there are a couple of solutions...

First, anyone who is successful, in anything, becomes a bit of a pariah among most other people. I was successful on the internet, so no one I knew wanted to talk to me about the internet. I then became successful in real estate, so naturally, no one I knew wanted to talk to me about real estate. I thought it was a Canadian thing. Turns out to be universal.

If people acknowledge your success, and allow you to talk about it, then they also have to acknowledge that they've failed at becoming a success. Luckily, they can still drink and party pretty well, so they'll talk about that 'success.'

And now the solutions... Start teaching, even for free, and build a base of people who want to learn from you. Offer your skills to non-profits for free. They'll be calling you to talk about your skills. But whatever you do, start getting excited about your own abilities, your own talents and your own opportunities to make the world a better place. The beer swilling party guys will zip out of this world the same way they zipped in, useless and contributing nothing. You, my friend, are about to make a difference that even you thought was impossible.
      Cheers,

Listen you whinger ...I know exactly where you're coming from. I've been in this game about five years full-time - based in Gay Paree. Originally from Byron Bay. It can be cruel. Last week I was pretty down - had a couple of major set-backs. But then I had a stroke of luck - well you make your own luck - and got offered a copy gig by FK. You know - one of the Gods of the I.M. world. Great writer too. He paid me my fee upfront in full and I knocked the job out in a day or so. And now we're discussing further projects. This is pretty big for me. A perfect fit. We share the same humour PLUS he surfs - like me. Anyway I've grown two inches since then. Life is sometimes amazing. P.M. me if you like. I suggest networking more and try to connect with people that have similar mindsets/liefestyles to you. That way, you can have a set of friends to talk to about your business. With the friends you have now, try to avoid taking about your business and talk about other subjects such as family or whatever you usually talk to people abut for fun.

It is difficult being different than those who have stayed in the main stream of life.

We the warriors of IM are DIFFERENT!!! It does get lonely sometimes and we are all so fortunate to be able to jump in the forum and at least talk to others that GET IT, WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT, AND LOVE IT JUST LIKE WE DO.

I have learned to keep my business within my circle of like minded entrepreneurs and outside of the box thinkers and keep my small circle of friends as just good friends.

With my friends I listen more than I talk. I just keeps it sweeter that way.

Hey rankinghero, I feel your pain. It's a solitary business so I'm sure it must be lonely at the top because I sure as hell know how lonely it is at the bottom. How was it when you were just starting out? Lonely or not, I envy your success. How did you get to the point where you actually making a living in the online marketplace?

I've spent 5 years fantasizing about breaking into the prosperous world of IM but never found the time due to the mundane reality of a 9-5 job. I was laid off 2 months ago when the company downsized and I simply can't find a job in this horrid economy. Now would be the time to get started but I just don't know where to begin.

As I sit at the crossroads and ponder which avenue to pursue I feel lost and isolated and totally alone in this world. I am a bit reclusive by nature anyway and now 90% of the phone calls I get are from bill collectors. When I mention my dream of an IM enterprise to friends and family they just glaze over... or worse, they look at me like I'm crazy and tell me forget about it I'm not a cybergeek and I don't know the ropes so I'm probably wasting my time ... but if I figure it out be sure to let them know so they can cash in.

Oh how I wish I had a mentor to give me an encouraging pat on the back... or I'd love to hire a personal coach but right now I don't have two nickels to rub together. Anybody care to share your startup experience? How did you build your cyberspace empire? Can it be done without investing a month's rent in startup costs? What was your first step?

Maybe you are boring them? Is IM the only thing you want to talk about? Do you listen to them discuss their daily work habits?

When I'm with friends, the LAST thing I want to talk about is my work or IM. Nor do I want to hear the daily travails they have with their jobs or work. I don't want to lecture people on what I do and how I do it and where I'm going with it - I want to interact with friends and exchange opinions and ideas on a multitude of subjects.

Working online is what you do - not who you are. Perhaps the problem is your lack of interest in activities outside your work rather than the attitude of friends.

Just looking from a different perspective.

Surprisingly when you are successful at something so freeing as IM, it can be hard for others to relate to that. The life of an entrepreneur is a different path from the norm, so it makes it hard to relate to the norm, but that's ok.
I know you've received more advice than you can handle, but you are doing the right thing following a path that gives you the freedom to live the life that is best for your family.
Speaking of family, as I was writing this, my 4 yr old daughter came into my room because she had a bad dream. It's so great to not have to leave the house to go to work! Let's not forget the blessings we do have, when the problems and frustrations come our way.

    I dunno man.

I experinece two sides of the coin.

When people ask me what I do, I tell them a little bit about it, and
I have a little prepared speech for when people do ask so it doesn't
    drag on or sound boring.

When I talk about it to others who ask, they often ask me to "teach
them" or "tell them more". I rarely get the channge of conversation
tone most successful people speak of, and I talk to alot of people.

    (outside the internet)

My guess is that it has something to do with how you present yourself
to people. Are you telling them what you do in a way that seems to
imply you just want to "talk about" what you do to brag - even lightly?

Or are you telling people less about you and your accomplishments and
more about how they can have the same results and getting them to
see themselves in your shoes, doing what you do for a living?

Listening to other people talk about themselves is not very attractive,
I don't care how successful you are, across the globe. People would
    rather talk about themselves.

Then again, I don't know your whole story, for all I know you could be
doing everything right in the book and maybe you just have losers for
friends who don't have the same aspirations you do. It happens. Get
new friends. But not here man. You can relate to people on the outside.

But you have to make the effort to relate to them. In turn, they'll want
to relate to you...and maybe get intrested enough in what your doing to
    do what you do.

But you make thousands, far more than I, you would know what to do

I also would suggest that you could offer an in-person seminar "How to Make Money Online" and make it clear in the ad that you are paying your bills through making money online.

I could easily see where a client could turn into a friend. It is nice to have someone to laugh and chat with once in a while, as opposed to only posting on the forums and reading replies.

if this helps anyone to take action, then good. i'm sure you'll see this and think, omg i can do better than that ha! but that's ok! if it helps in any way then that's ok!

this is TINY compared to so many success. TINYYYY. But to me it is huge!

so i just wanted to say that 2 weeks ago, i posted that since i started coming here i felt so much better and had hopes it would get better.

Well! there's no monetary success to report, but i am so excited that i got done what i got done in a week, just because of being here and being encouraged and 'told' to just get out there and at least Take Action! Something!!

what is so exciting to me is i did all the techie things by myself!!

    that's the biggie for me.

the content is terrible........ but i had to work on getting the technical things done. the very basic stuff. so...i don't know.......i'm so happy that it works, that's all!

so anyhow......here's my lame wanna-be blog! Anita's Good Food if i can do this with G.Analytics, Stat Counter, Aweber, Twitter, You-Tube etc etc a plus host and install themes and WPress etc...than ANYONE can!
