Filtering Information Overload ~ A Strategy

I thought it could be helpful to share a strategy I've found useful for dealing with information overload. I call it the T.I.N.O. Filter. I was inspired after reading some of Tim Ferriss' work. The T.I.N.O. Filter was the result of my inspiration.

T.I.N.O. is an acronym which stands for Time consuming, Irrelevant to my life goals, Negative and energy draining, Outside my control and influence

T.I.N.O. is a filter through which we pass potential life experiences to help us protect and prioritize our finite time, energy, and resources. My rule of thumb is this: if a relationship, a situation, news article, piece of information, etc fits at least 3 of the 4 T.I.N.O. criteria, it's a guarantee my resources will NOT be effectively used in achieving my life goals. In other words, disregard and move on to something that WILL produce effective results.

When I'm self-disciplined enough to apply the T.I.N.O. Filter to the endless stream of attention-grabbers, I find it easier to disregard the unwanted material in favor of more effective and productive activity. It also helps by taking my emotions out of the equation and forcing me to ask some hard questions. I'm learning that applying the T.I.N.O. filter is crucial if I want to make decent progress towards my goals. Of course, the ongoing challenge is to implement it regularly with improving discipline. Thank goodness for boatloads of improvement.

    Sounds like a good philosophy.

Mine is, work hard, and disregard what doesn't work or for some reason doesn't fit with you and keep trying.

But l agree watch one Youtube kitten video and it is hard to stop at one, lol.
