Hi, If you think that you lack self-discipline, do you prefer to seek help from a mentor or self/help or self-motivation (e.g. read a book about self-discipline)?

Honestly not, I try to motivate myself. I think the main thing is to set a clear goal.

I would prefer a mentor. It's a different feeling when someone pushes you to discipline yourself.

Self-discipline is something that has to be developed over time, nobody is born with it. Moreover, nobody can achieve the highest form of self-discipline. To increase myself in self-discipline, I would get a mentor first and follow his advice, I also do not mind reading a book.

It truly amazes me to see threads such as this, always asking if this OR that is better. Why not do it all? Then you'll learn what may be better for you at any given time.

    I've always wondered (seriously!) ....

If someone else (book or mentor) has to show you what to do...how is it "self" discipline?

I'm not sure what "Do it all" means, but certainly you give

Love It! Bottom line is that no matter where the information comes from,
YOU are in charge of your own discipline. Books and mentors can do
no more than give someone information.

Kind of reminds me of the internet marketing world!

I personally would find a buddy, instead of a mentor. It's easier to get motivated by someone who shares the same brainwaves as you, compared to an authority figure.

This is what I think about self discipline. When you implement self-discipline into your life, you'll start to see positive changes in different aspects of your life. With self-discipline, you will be able to control your impulsive reactions.

If you feel you lack self discipline, here's the cure.

Make promises with deadlines to people who matter to you. Make the deadlines soon. Maybe a day or two....not weeks away.

In my life I've found three things keep me working...even when I'm disinterested...or feeling lazy.

    1) A deadline that someone is counting on.

    2) Hiring people as assistants. When someone shows up for work, and their job is to help you in your work....you have to get to it. No matter how you feel. No matter what mood you are in...you simply have to get started.

    3) If I have to start something...a project, a day of cold calling, a book I'm writing. I just promise myself I'll work on it for ten minutes. Just ten minutes. And then I can quit.

You can do almost anything for ten minutes. And at the end of ten minutes, you feel like an idiot for stopping, and so you just keep going. I call it my "One push up theory". Just do one push up. Now you're on the floor, and you've done just one push up. You feel like an idiot for quitting, so you keep going.

Anyway, these things work for me.

    Hi Marie,

I just double down on making sure I am following my passion. If I appear to lack discipline, I just moved away from what I love doing toward what I do not love doing. I get back on track and stay on point when I follow my passion again.

Well I found the book "An Iron Will" (By Orison Swett Marden) really helpful several years ago. (It's basically all about the importance of "will-power" and how to develop it.)

It's in the Public Domain so you can read it online for free -- just search Google.

I'm a fan of "Think And Grow Rich."

My favourite lesson from the book is the sharecrop Girl asking for her 50c. When your goal/passion/etc. is that important -- that you're even willing to risk your own "security" (etc.) -- you're almost certain to succeed.

Ok, l thought that the part where they tried to prove that Henry Ford was stupid, since he didn't know a lot about general knowledge, in a court, and he said, "l can press one of several buttons on my desk and get someone who can answer any question, so why bother wasting my time learning stuff".

Hey hey -- I kinda know whereya are gowin' with this, but also you gotta figure how, generally, people are kinda the same.

Specific situations & individual quirks vary, but we all feel & touch on shit from outta the same broad range.

Prolly that is why oral storyteller types summonin' up mystery round the campfire got affinity with the team crafted Bladerunner 2049 an' anyone staged, screened or wrote out any story.

Thespian verve, cinematic pernicketyness, literary zing, marketin' smarts -- alla these person-2-person forms got superspecialized knowhow pulsin' nichecraft toward excellence, but I would wanna conjecture that all share a common feature ... which is kinda how people (whomsoever they be) are universally 'moveable' within a real tight physiological response range.

Comin' back to self-discipline, gotta figure filterin' out distraction is essential.

Think Broadway musical ... Bladerunner ... His Dark Materials ... The Princess Balestra Bendy Yoga Songbook -- how'n anya these specific marvels gonna be wrought from outta reactionary air less'n the people wantin' em' to happen distinguished constructively between distractin' crapola an' Shit Gonna Happen?

there is no such thing as common sense ..the only sense that is common is nonsense .it was a shock to the entire Galaxy we hav't destroyed ourselves by now like the predictions over the last 25oo years said we would ..

the fact that you and everyone you know who is still alive is still alive..freaking miracle ..

in the effort to keep people safe from themselves ..you have to explain on the side of a cup of coffee or hot chocolate..that it is hot and can cause burns .

the education system at least in the USA is designed to produce people who don't know much outside of a narrow range of knowledge ..so they earn money doing that ..then they pay someone else to do the things they do not know how to do .. like cook most food ..and if mommy and daddy didn't know how to do it..chances are the kiddies are clueless as well.

if to many people suddenly learn how to cook healthy food that tastes good from scratch that helps them lose weight .. about a dozen industries would crumbly and the economy would crash ..

for the economy we have at least in the Usa to function you need a lot of people lacking basic survivavl skills ..or basic knowledge.. or you have the government pass regulations that make things much more difficult so you need people with the skills to fill out useless paperwork ..

sorry to keep ranting but i will pick on the premis of this thread.. and the whole idea of learning self disciple from a book ..

if you bought the book.. read the whole book and did many of the exercises ..there is a huge change you had a lot of self discipling to begin with and didn't need the book .. haha

One of my favorite books on this topic is:

"The War of Art" by Steven Pressfield.

Something that helps me is focusing on my WHY. I might not be inspired to sit down and write today but I am inspired to visit my grandkids for Thanksgiving. And since I need money to do that it inspires me to do what is necessary today.

I also tend to work on a reward system. Get this done and then you can do this. That works better for me than beating myself up for not getting enough done. I tried that in the past and it didn't work.

I would not seek a mentor because to me that is not "self" discipline. I would seek a mentor to learn a specific task or business method.

    True, but blatantly obvious.

Someone who can win at a Quiz Show, will fail miserably at a specialist task that they only have facts and figures on.

Someone who can remember all of the Ford cars since the Model T, cannot build a better Ford engine.

This is self evident, and crapping on for a few chapters about this is, well it fills up some pages...

because the game to play is really only 10 years old right now.. the game of the rat race it the old game that is falling appart .. and the non elites who fancied themselves as elites are panicking and freaking out ..

Very much self motivation. I love books, but I like analyzing things on my own by breaking down whatever it is that I'm doing and seeing how it can improve (both actionable efforts and mindset). I like to analyze my competitors who I admire as well and see if there's anything I feel would make a good fit for my own systems and processes, too.

Let me use one example ..

800 years ago the elites of the day brought the concept of a lawn back to Europe after seeing it in the middle /far east ..but they also raised sheep while useing them to keep the lawns trimmed..so they got a lawn meat and wool ..and the peasants slave where there to take care of the animals .

the game or the rat race boils down to the lowe classes badly emulatine what the elites or ich of the past have done ..so the states in the USA i believe more man hours are spent and fuel is used to tend to lawns every year .. than is used to grow food and is the largest crop in the USA ..

and bringing it to today .. you have famous people paid to wear certain cloths or use other item..so the rats below them can rush out to buy these things to emulate the elites or so called e;lites of the day .. while chasing the thing elites have had in the past .

you can make your money working for yourself without punching a clock ..but if you are playing the rest of the game like a rat.. you are still a rat ..now after the stories coming from the scandals in Hollywood ..many of the people the rats are trying to emulate are really snakes ..and the rat race it like the wheel in a cage.. where the better rats just get nicer whels ..until the snakes eat them ..

I've always been fascinated by books (and speeches) that are motivational in nature. Talks about self discipline, goals, being liked, developing a pleasing personality...etc.

What do you call it when someone thinks that by reading a book, they can change a lifetime of human nature?

I've always found it more profitable to study how to use your nature to your advantage...or at least compensate.

For example, are you lacking in self discipline? Do you think a book will change your very nature...and you'll suddenly become disciplined?

Wouldn't it make more sense to figure out how to get ahead...while lacking self discipline?

When I was a teenager, I was painfully shy. What book would have made me not be shy?

What I did was force myself to learn how to sell, and while I was shy. Instead of trying to be a completely different person, I concentrated on learning how to sell, even if you are shy...by learning techniques.

But do we think a book will make an undisciplined person change their nature?

    Just a thought.

Nature has also had a few million years, in relation to our really using our minds, or 5000 years.

So all of the mysterys of the universe, are put to practical use, somewhere on our planet in nature.

We just have to put our rat mentality and rose colored glasses aside.

i been thinking about this a few days ..nature is constantly changing and it is a lot faster than the mind of humans believe .. and the major problem we have in the modern world is a social disposition of a state of warfare on nature even our internal nature .. and denial of our nature.

the great part about this or having the mass of people in this state ..is those with the knowledge to manipulate your nature .. to get you to do what they want ..are happy to do it .. but they get you to go along ..

the options are either learn to manipulate your own nature to get what you want ..or keep letting others do all the manipulating and getting what they want from you .

you have sheep gods that can heard sheep and protect them from wolves ..but wolves do not lead sheep ..

now putting thing in terms of wolves and sheep.. the choice become are you a sheep or a wolf ..now predators are fairly lazy ..a bear can hunt for 5 months out of the year and sleep for 7 .. lions in a pack kill a big animal and gorge themselves ..then sheep( at which time the hyenas come in and eat the rest of the animal..

but the lions still pack away enough calories the its days or a week before they hunt again .. great white sharks can eat a bunch of seals in a few weeks or a month ..and not have to eat againfor many months .

so it is the laziest of human behaviors that stem from the predator mindset.. where as sheep and most other herbivores .. have to eat every day or nearly every day ..

by failing to understand nature or falling for blatent lies about nature .. by those who do understand nature .. and that humans prefer a good lie that feel good ..over the honest truth that make them feel uncomfortable ..

when it was exposed to people the the fresh squeezed orange juice the where pouring from the jugs they bought in stores .. was really crap that was stored for a long time then flavored with sugars an perfumes before being put in the container and shipped to the store.. given the choice after between real fresh squeezed and the stuff in the container ..they went with the stuff in the container .

the amount of work and cost to buy orange and squeeze them .. verses the cost and time to buy the gallon of oj .. and pour it in a glass .. the lie of believing that is just like fresh squeezed ..makes sense .

but the lions still pack away enough calories the its days or a week before they hunt again .. great white sharks can eat a bunch of seals in a few weeks or a month ..and not have to eat againfor many months .

so it is the laziest of human behaviors that stem from the predator mindset.. where as sheep and most other herbivores .. have to eat every day or nearly every day ..

the amount of work and cost to buy orange and squeeze them .. verses the cost and time to buy the gallon of oj .. and pour it in a glass .. the lie of believing that is just like fresh squeezed ..makes sense .
              Unbelievable!

Yes, l learned a while ago that the crap in plastic containers, was artificial flavors and colors, so it looks and tastes like real orange juice.

Some even made it taste slightly bitter, so to fool people even more, and put some remnants of something, (hopefully oranges) in the bottom as well.

And l have recently seen that Kelloggs, Nutrigrain, has more iron, and potassium in it now, and they are still passing off that crap as healthy.

It just means that they are sprinkling more vitamin tablet powder in the packs than usual, (no seriously). The actual product, has little value.

I have a bowl of fruit every day, so an apple one day with a banana and something else another day with a banana, and shake my head when l see this BS advertising.

As for wolves, there are plenty in our world, usually suppressing the truth, for power and wealth, but some wolves aren't as smart as they would like to think they are.

And l agree most want to hear lies, so they can lead warm and fuzzy lives, since the truth is unsettling, eventhough it is the truth!

Which brings up a philosophical question. When you spout nonsense that isn't true...but you think you are saying something profound...is it a lie?

most people have a pattern in the way they talk about their beliefs.. and usually over time observing people and what they say online..if they talk about one or two beliefs there are several that go along.. that they may have not talked about ..

where everything we put online unless we go to great lengths to hide it .. is saved to hundreds of different data banks around the world ..there is going to be a time in the near future that you can pull up much of what you have said online ..in many different forums .. under different screen names .. at this point ..there are pople who have that ability .. and then they can run these through a program that can outline your personality at any given time..and judge threat .

I'm happy to drop in a bit of nonsense here and there.. to seem non threatening and a bit crazy and go un noticed ..for now .

this could be a simulation.. or with the amount of data collected on us the last 20 years ..if we have kids or grand kids or great grand kids .. they can go back and see what we where doing online.. or in the real world ..or plug it into a simulation and sit there and watch parts of our lives or how we live now ..

imagine that .. you go to tell your kids or grand children stuff not too do.. and they swipe through files and call out your hypocracy.. and say but you did this this and that "

Goes without saying that this world is a simulation, you only need two trillion volt lazers, or a Tesla coil or a very high frequency device to see how reality can break down.

And the patterns, yes, l have had a few instances where l showed someone hard evidence of something l believe in.

And this was something that mass media doesn't wisper about.

I assumed that if l showed this person who asked, then they would be saying, "oh, ok, there is doubt there l will have to think about it, or I was obviously wrong"?

                      This was fairly recently.

But nope, this person went off the rails with so much gobbly - gook evidence that l was going to suggest a shrink or a tranquilizer?

No this world has warm and fuzzy under lock and key, and occasionally someone in the wilderness cries out, but they are few and far between.

The sheeple look up and for a brief time there is clarity, then they fall back into their trance, and all is well, (at least for them it is).

Or until they finally open the lock, and throw the key away, that day is coming, and then the sheep will have to confront their biggest fear, or look the wolf squally in the eyes, (F*** finally)!

we live in the Universe the the themivers or the godiverse or the law of attraction iverse ..It is You ..people used to need to have 12 children so 3 or 4 could get to adulthood and then get married and have babies ...now with vaccines and excent trauma care.. and anti biotics .. chances are the child that is born will live 2-3 time as long as people lived 100 years ago .. but now because over half the babies born are not dieing by the age of 6 ..and people are living longer .. you get all these diseases that people used to never get..

because this quote is so much shorter than tag's ..

it really depends if you are putting it out there expecting other people to belief it..or you expect to be questioned on it.. or you are keeping the conversation going and trying to draw out something personally profound from some one ..

but people rarely spout anything outside their world view ..so it is a matter of understanding and expecting the same non-sense from people with similar world views .

i have a world view that the world is getting much much better ..but on an individual level.. more and more responsibility is being placed on the individual ..ro build a good or great life with the tools being offered ..and the scripted life generation past could take part in or where subjected to is dissapearing ..the forced opression has for the most part disappeared and people use the tools to oppress themselves but still look for something out there to blame .

                  i

      Neat stuff, Claude

Gotta figure we all exist at the clifface/summit of our own predicament/solution.

      This kinda means 3 things.

      1) Someone else's solution or method ain't necessarily right for us.
      2) Someone else's solution/method ... even if applied ... ain't necessarily the whole story.
      3) Someone else's solution or method most likely wasn't the whole story behind said somebody's rise to Wonderhood anyways.

So perhaps the self-discipline lies in figurin' out what a uniquely demandin' & potentially transformational critterya are an' fittin' together all kindsa stuff solves your indiviyool problem.

Maybe it helps if, instead of trying to motivate yourself, you found something you were interested in. Even the laziest person will put forth effort if they are interested enough.

But I've always found it useful to simply put myself in positions where I have to work, have to show up, have to produce.

Lol Well that would be nice. : )

Seriously though good point Claude. For me (and other People?) discipline has been like a muscle in the sense the more you work it, the stronger it becomes.

One thing I read once that was truly motivational was something like "The more you do a thing, the more you enjoy doing that thing, the easier it is, and the better you are at it."

For some reason, that struck me as profound, and keeping that thought in mind helped me cold call when I didn't want to at all.

Sometimes I would trick myself into working, when I didn't want to. I'd tell myself that I only had to knock on one door, or make one phone call, and then I could quit for the day. The task was so easy...over so quickly, that it was silly to put it off.

Of course, once I knocked on one door...I was already out there working...and it would be ridiculous to quit. So I would just keep on going.

But the single best motivation I ever had was overhead. The payroll needs to be paid on Friday. No excuses will work. Now, that will put a fire in your belly.

Nice. : ) I say something like "If I only work on my Venture for half an hour, that's better than nothing." (And then end up working for a good amount of time.) Sometimes it's the getting started that is difficult.

    Claude,

by selling you had a good reason to talk to people and you gained knowledge about what ever you where selling ..i am no longer shy there is a lot i will talk to people about ..when just 3 -4 years ago i did not like talking to anyone ..

get into talking about sports or virtualy any pop culture thing .. and nope i'm out of that conversation ..i am also hi functioning autistic so it took me over thirty years to figure out how to talk to people.. and i heavily profile people looking t see who i want to interact with and how to talk to them..

It has turned out to be a survival skill the last three months i have been homeless and i have honed it ..

everyone has stuff they often put a high amount of discipline into.. the kid with adhd who can play video games 20 hours a day and have zero deficit in the attention they give ....

it is a matter of figuring out what about the game causes that level of attention or disciple ..and finding an area out in the physical world to apply it ..

People cannot really change their nature without a traumatic event ..that usually changes their nature negatively ..but many people are in denial of their nature and are unwilling to explore their real nature in order to get overall beneficial results long term ..

Geesh, don't go all new age on me, l threw away the lock and key a long time ago, only because of countless experiences, (l don't go on a self deluding bender, when l see something out there).

And l agree that everyone could unlock it, but l am talking more along the lines of the people that created the lock in the first place, forcing the key on everyone, in the near future.

We should have concrete proof of aliens in our solar system within the next 20 years. NASA is releasing a trickle of that now, but in a toss a coin kind of way.

Then shortly after that the lot will be shown to all, and then there will be no where to hide, apart from a padded room.

But this is a mainframe or it fills a room, or probably a skyscreaper, so it will be some time before we can get that down to a mobile device.

I havn't heard of any major breakthroughs in atomic scale transistors, as yet, but it will probably be decades.

I am personally waiting for Princess Lea, type holographic phones myself, which we should have in the next 5 years.

Self driving will be cool for the short term, but when the tech, ages, and changes hands a few times, then they will become death traps.

I expect that it will get so bad, gov, in the year 2030, will pass legislation forcing owners to update it all or get rid of it?

When sensors or the main computer ages then it malfunctions or gets confused, and when the sensors get dirty, on top of aging tech, then you become a liability to everyone.

What happens when you are driving up your driveway, or your computer is, (while you are asleep) and it mistakes your 5 year old with a mirror glistening in the sun, as a puddle of water, and drives over it?

Or in the recent case mistakes a turning truck as the sky, and plougs through it.

Or mistakes a road sign, (of the sky or a road) as the real thing, and drives you off a cliff?

Nah, nice idea, but l wouldn't touch it!

As l said before sanity and common sense are overcoming stupidity and believing in anything, because you have to, not because it is true!

fracking will prevent any resurgence of coal and the rapid drop in cost and increase in efficiency in solar power .. will in 5-10 years put a ceiling on the cost of fossil fuels ..it will happen a lot faster than people think ..

in the middle east they are already building solar facilities that produce power at lower costs than burning oil ..which the use to desalinate water and grow food in hydroponic green houses ..

much of man made global warming and the use of fossil fuels has to do with growing and transporting food ..

those coal minors waiting for coal to make a come are in a long line ..of many in denial of the changes going on ..

That means that Flannery, (Au) that has been talking about one disaster after another, for the last 20+ years, (none came true) and has recently said he got it wrong, is a nutter.

I would say someone making BS predictions for 20 odd years, and never getting one right is a nutter, in the true sence of the word.

Or someone closing down reliable coal stations for dodgy wind, solar, is a nutter. But we can always p*** away 100m, and get 20 minutes of battery power, so we have enough time to find some candles.

Australia has had a gutfull of this subject and F***wits pushing up prices, so pensioners freeze or go back to fireplaces and candles, all for a theory, that even if true, our actions make a 1% or 3% global difference.

And we export the stuff to India the builds coal stations like it is a race.

          Now that is nuts!

Ok, Princess, l will but not before saying that there is a marked difference between being in denial about MMGW, and not.

Someone in denial will ignore hard evidence, or distort it so it doesn't look like hard evidence or forgets about it, or attacks the poster or nitpicks one mistake, etc, (l know all of the psychotic tricks).

      But the facts remain.

An example is ESA, or the NOAA site.

I have gone through the numbers there, (land, sea US temps) since records began, (around 1880) and the are the opposite of what Mass Media keeps bleating about.

They say last year was the hottest, and the last three years of temp,s going up prove impending doom, it doesn't.

2012 was the hottest, (l went through the data three times to be sure) and the last three years is statistically meaningless, (temp, have gone up and down for 1 to 3 years since records began)

1932 was the only time that temp, went up for 4 years in a row, but we didn't have the pigs in troughs convention we have now.

And the ONLY indication of impending doom is world temp,s occurring more in the 1.00 temp, range in the last 50 years, than the previous 70, that had more .97 - .98's.

So going by this, l would say that it is possible that we have affected world temp, but only by a jokingly small number of .1 or .2% every 5 years or so, (but sun activity and other factors may also be the cause).

So, no l am not in denial, l study raw data, and base my views on that, others seem to base their views on science shows about MMGW, (there is a good one with the actor that plays Spock, about MMGC in the 1970's on Youtube, that was 100% wrong) and columnists with no idea, parroting doom and gloom predictions in the Enquirer.

No MMGW is a train wreck in slow motion that has well and truly gone off the cliff, most are standing on the edge, shaking their heads in disbelief, and the rest will stay with the train no matter what, even the rocks at the bottom of the cliff, won't sway them.

Mass Media finally getting off the train, or a good shrink are about the only ways left, to leave

      Thank you!

decided to remove this one it not stuff i like to put here on this forum .

in any case there is no one holding the keys to the locks out there ..the lock are put there by us trying to hide things from ourselves and others ..and deny the things we do .and lie saying we do other things .

the world we are going into .you and everyone else is going to know that what you are eating is bound to cause this this or that disease based on data about you .. your DNA profile stress level environmental toxicity and nutrient profile ..

and we will have scanners that are like start track tricolors ..those are already developed ..but still need improvement.. so you can scan anything you et or yourself or the people around you for pathogens or with the food nutrient content ..

while we may have solid proof of aliens in 20 years...in 5 years nearly every human will have an mobile internet device , that has near the processing ability of the human brain . with highly advanced artificial intelligence ..

i just had a holy shit moment.. i am going on and on about how you will be able to use your data in the future ..and the law of attraction...(just kidding ) for some reason my you tube recommendations put up a documentary ..on the value of the data you are leaving all over the web..is what the greatest fortunes in the world are being built on now ..google,Facebook, amazon, apple , youtube..and an endless list ..

so from history as a the majority of human being peasants slaves for ten-thousand years..to the worker/taxpayer/ consumer of the last 100 years .. to the the data generator ..

so i guess it's now about having the disciple to learn how to use the data you generate .. to increase your reale value ..

and just because they are sheep doesn't make them safe

It is elon musk that has the ai ..that beat the best dota 2 players and the best go players in the world ..but the dota players figured out the limits of the ai and many players beat it with in a day or two.. but the best players are also now using it to play against to get better .. otherwise their option is to play against the other best players to get better..which only manages to make the people they want to beat in compitition better ..

that where it is now.. but in 5 years when it is 3-6 time more powerfull and a person in the middle of the dessert in africa with a cell phone has acces to it oe watso or what ever other powerfull ai.. as well as an open line to almost every other human .

the holograph thing was futuristic thinking 40 years ago ..you think you are annoyed enough now with people transfixed on their phone.. and hell even people transfixxed on their phones get annoyed with other transfixxed on their phones when they have to interact with them and it slows them getting back to rheir phones .

my normal problem is wondering if someone is on a hand free phone talking to someone.. or are they high on meth and talking to people not there .. really that is not a joke .

so imagine the voice activate augmentted reality glasses or contacts so people are interacting with these holograms that they are the only ones seeing ..5-10 years away ..if it is 10 plus at least they will be doing it while the car drives itself ..

Yes, tree trunk teenagers walking about while interacting with a holographic projection, sudder to think, (at least shopping ctr's will ban pornographic ones).

High on meth, lol, yes, when you see a little old lady carrying a bag full of string, and looking like she needs a shave, talking to the air, rest assured she won't have a bluetooth on her ear.

Yes, self driving cars, a futuristic time bomb.

Yes, self driving cars, a futuristic time bomb.

i think self driving cars will be great ..but we are still thinking in terms of how we use cars now ..so cars are designed as mini tanks ..to keep drivers safe from their own and other drivers mistakes ..

when i was in the philipine did a lot of my short ranged travel in trikes dirt bike with passenger carts.. and here in tuscon arizona because it warml 10 months out of the year .. there is a taxi service that drive people around in golf carts ....but of course the streets are gridded so it is easy to walk around most places ..

and if it still a person vehicle it is easy enough to convert it into a mobile office.. or have a mine movie theater .. or a huge number of options . that it outside the lines of how people would think now ..

I am stubborn n this point ..everything will come down to how you chose to use the tools available ..if you chose to make your life better .. there is no upper limit to how better you can get with certain tech..but also there is a ton of low hanging fruit ..

you can use you tube to educate yourself on better things to cook. better ways to do thing .. learn a host of new subjects.. or you can watch funny cat videos/ music videos or pirated movies ..

no one ties you to a chair and forces you to watch anything.. or stuffs junkfood in your mouth .. or forces you to thing you can eat 10 serving of cookies because they are low fat and your drinking diet soda

don't need a book to learn self disibling .. just need to know the results of not having disciplne

though i have a positive outlook for the future in general.. i still see a point in time when a huge number of people go matrix and log into a vr world and restrict the amount of time they are out in the real world.. people get upset with me when i talk about that though ..

either learn to use the tech available to make your life in the real world better or get your basic needs taken care of and do most of your living in a vr world ..there will be a huge group in the middle .. but over all it is based on personal choices where people will end up

The only bad thing about seeing if Procrastination wins...is that the race takes forever.

As you actually just stated...except more poetically.

Self-discipline and motivation are obstacles every marketer and entrepreneur has to conquer. If you can find (and afford) a good coach that's awesome. But for most people, I'm not sure if that's possible

I love books. You can learn from very successful men and women who would never coach you personally or in some cases are no longer alive. Here are a couple I've read and highly recommend.

The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod

Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Leading an Inspired Life by Jim Rohn

No B.S. Time Management for Entrepreneurs by Dan Kennedy

These are all amazing books that can help you develop self-discipline but at the end of the day, you're the one who has to has to suck it up and do it.

Not procrastination. i like to tease out peoples world views ..as i have mentioned ..there is stuff people say on forums that they won't usually say face to face . but very few people are able to express fully oposing view in real life or on forums..

so after teasing enough people world views out online ..you can listen to parts of what people believe face to face.. and draw the rest out .. and get them talking in ways they normally would not .

number 1 way to be interesting is to be interested and people like you better if they can talk about things they normally don't get to talk about and you don't shut them down as crazy ..

in any case getting into a debate that is both religious and political.. such as mmgw and the causes effect s ,,in my view and personally though i love to argue ..i personal prefer not to waste time arguing about weather or not there is a problem ..

I much prefer to focus on the innovation/ innovators and trends that will fix the problem in the long term ..so if the 2 biggest effects humans have on the environment are burning fossile fuels for electricity and growing food .. and farming practices are the biggest long term most detrimental environmental practices ..

I will point to the development curve of solar ..and that it will probably be far cheaper than oil by 2030 .. and there are growing trends in farming to use methods that put carbon from the atmosphere back into the soil ..and to use unused space in cities to grow food in/on or around buildings .. so far less oil is used to grow and transport the food .
