Movies!!! Have You Seen All 15?

I'm pretty sure majority of the people here enjoy movies, am I right? Not to get in too deep, I think it's really a good way to get in the shoes of someone else's life or experiences. So it's a really good place to draw inspiration and motivation from, and of course, a good source of entertainment.

I've put together a list of fifteen movies that you can draw some inspiration and motivation for your journey in entrepreneurship or well just movies that you may really just enjoy or relate to. You can find it here: 15 Movies Entrepreneurs Should See

Out of the 15, I really enjoyed The Wolf of Wall Street (can't ever forget the "sell me this pen" scene), I found it fascinating and amazing how quick-witted a person has to be if you really plan on selling something. How they find a connection with their possible customers and drawing them in, and creating a sense of urgency to push people to buy. You can't really learn exactly how to be a salesman or what entirely being a salesman is with just that movie (for all we know it's as exaggerated as almost every movie is), but it's a glimpse of what attitude and what personality you can develop in order to progress in that kind of business.

I've rambled on....so I'll stop here. What's your favorite movie that pushed you, or motivated you for your entrepreneurial ordeals? Have you watched all that's on this list? Of course, 15 won't cover everything and I'm sure I missed one or you probably don't agree with some (but hey! Different people, different opinions). So share them! I want to know all about it!

    Two OLD movies which have great lessons (at least they did for me) are:

    THE MUSIC MAN (Prefer old version over remake with Robert Preston) a story of a traveling salesman.

    He uses EMOTION to get the town folk interested in his wares. Enthusiasm and emotional appeal go a long way, even today on the Internet Marketing circuit.

    Then, ELMER GANTRY might be a powerful lesson for today, Burt Lancaster's performance is spot on and you'll see many modern "clones" of this charismatic preacher.

    The movie offers great lessons and understanding in hypocrisy and influence.

    Of the movies on your list, Glengarry Glen Ross is in house selling which strikes an amazing resemblance to many IM guru's, tell them anything but get that signature on the line and get them on the hook, cause, like many old fashioned salesmen, the belief of many a guru is:

    "If I don't take their money, someone else will, so it might as well be me."

    PS Maybe that is why you'll find more than a few gurus on lists of FDA, FCC, and with violations and legal battles behind them, caused by their own greed.

    I've seen that movie. I do agree with you on that. I could, for me, it's something I would compare to pitching a product/service to a group of CEOs to fund your startup. Haha!

    Oooh that's an interesting take on selling. I should check that out and put it on my list of movies to watch. Yeah, emotional appeal does wonders. I've seen commercials use relatable sob stories to get the attention of viewers to up their brand and it does work so well. I've seen sales copies work with telling people about their lives and how their product made things better and it draws a great deal of attraction, of course not for everyone.

    I think another movie, even though it's not about starting a business is "Limitless". I have this movie on my computer and can't help but to watch certain scenes from it a few times each week. My favorite line from the movie is "I wasn't high, I wasn't wired, just clear. I knew what I wanted to do and how to do it". I believe if most people can achieve true clarity in this way it would open up a whole new world for them.

      That's a pretty good attitude to live by. If everyone did have that level of clarity and put their minds to things they'll definitely achieve a whole lot.

      well my inner connection to the cosmic master .. is fine with the acceptance of suspension of belief or disbelief required to watch some movies.. but the horrid anti wealth programing in most movies ..and some how people in hollywood must never be around people who are drunk and high ever.. because they definitely have no realistic portrayal of that in move.. and they never get in car accident otherwise ..the slightest tap in an action movie causing a car to blow up would not register as something you would put in a movie .

      portrayal of homeless people .. horrid.. portrayal of actual jobs .. saying good bye before hang up a phone .. rich people .. poor people .. bad guys ..

      how about finding a taxi driver in a foreign country that understand english perfectly which happen in most films ..heck when i was in the philippines ... had a taxi driver not only pretend not to understand english bot also not understand the direction my girlfriend was giving in Tagalog..

    Thanks. I've seen many of these movies and I like the ones that give me a view into industries I do not know. Like Boiler Room -- shady investments were all the rage when it came out and I actually learned a lot watching their sales techniques. Well, I learned how to get rid of the cold callers. :-))

    And crazy as it sounds, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back gave me a look into what indie/outsiders have to put up with in the movie industry. As silly as it was, I'll bet it was based on Kevin Smith's own experiences in Hollywood.

      I was already led on to thinking that you were glad to learn about shady investments. Hahaha. I'm kidding. But yeah, I like watching movies that give me a glimpse of what people really do in other industries. It makes things fascinating.

      I haven't seen that film. I'll be sure to add to my list of things to watch. From what I know the movie industry isn't as lustrous as it's portrayed to be in most other films.
