How do you tell the difference between your spirit (true self) speaking and your ego?

In this field I have a lot of clients telling me things such as they don't know how to differentiate from their ego speaking and their spirit speaking.

Even when saying nice things they still just can't seem to tell the difference between their true self and ego.

I wanted to share my thoughts in this forum because it seems to be helping out others in life a lot.

So...

How to tell if your ego is speaking?

1-Look for any sign of separation
2-See if your having an emotional reaction to something

Lets look at those two points more in depth.

1-Look for any signs of separation

Whatever situation you are in, your ego wants to separate you from the rest. Good or bad thoughts.

So if you find yourself having thoughts about a situation saying you like this, or dislike that....

Your ego is speaking.

Take a breath. Watch the thought slowly move by like a cloud in the sky. Don't judge it. Come back to present and move on.

2-See if you're having an emotional reaction to something

Your body wants peace. Always and forever.

Emotions are always lies. Again, good and bad emotions are lies when thinking about something. If you're in the PD world you will have heard this eye opening fact already.

So if you find yourself filling up with emotions and reacting, try and stop it. Take a breath. Don't judge and come back to the present moment.

I hope you enjoyed these two tips and most of all gave you some valuable information to take with you out in this world.

Much love!

-Jonathan

So, when you "watch your thought slowly move by...", as you put it, have you ever wondered who is actually watching those thoughts? And, if you think you understand who you are, can you answer this: who is the one who understands?

Yes your true self is. Because your taking a gap from the immediate combination of action-reaction. Giving you a chance to remain in the middle and view your thoughts without judgement.

the key to really not judging your thoughts ..it to accept they are not your thoughts ..the same way the signal that comes through the tv or radio .. or cellphone.. is not the tv's ..the radios or the cellphones ..

where you are mentally and emotionally tunes you into receiving certain types of thoughts nd also there is what you let dominate and entertain you ..

you judge though from a negative ego position .. because you being to worry if the kind of thought coming through your mind.. make you a good or bad person in the opinions of others.

this is a marketing forum.. and marketers jobs if they are at least decent at what they do..is to trigger thought about what they are trying to sell you ..so the thought in your head are in many cases fed to you by many sources around you in your environment .

Actually, the thoughts in your head are words in a language you didn't invent in the first place.

Remember, we are all thinking in a particular language we are familiar with.

The thoughts in a person's head in China are in Chinese and in Spanish in Spain... and so on.

Thus, all our thinking is generated from a language we didn't create and have very little control over. All of our thoughts have been defined by ... ??? we don't know who.

But, these words - thoughts create our reality. I hate to tell you this, but we can never have a truly original thought. Even our most brilliant thoughts are nothing but words invented and defined by people we never met.

Whoever is in charge of creating words is actually in charge of our minds; and consequently in charge of creating our reality.

"Cogito ergo sum" which is in Latin from René Descartes means: "I think, therefore I am". If this is true, our lives are nothing but an abstract hallucination.

    Really good advice Jonathan

I've been immersing myself in Abraham Hicks at the moment and she refers to our emotions as our guidance system. If you experience positive emotions such as joy, happiness, contentment, it means that you are in alignment with your inner being or spirit.

Personally, I've been following her advice on focusing on feeling good and I've never felt better. I've found that it's not possible to be driven by your ego when you experience genuine positive emotions such as contentment and happiness. I find that the ego is at play when I feel negative emotions, particularly ones such as anger or resentment.

Just wanted to share my thoughts.

    Excellent Jonathan.

For me, when it is fun and love speaking, intuition speaks.

Anything not fun and love, it is ego, because it is fear, and illusory.

Well said dude. Thanks for sharing.

    Your ego is:

    - the image you have of yourself
    - your social mask, the face you put on for the world
    - your titles and roles (girlfriend, daughter, brother, sister, friend, colleague, teammate)

    Your soul is:

    - your spirit/essence/true self
    - who you really are deep down below all the labels, roles, expectations and social masks
    - something that doesn't change - you are born you and you will forever be you
    - inherently worthwhile - you are divine energy from the Universe. Your very existence in this world is what makes you beautiful, valuable and amazing.

If you are worried about your ego saying the wrong thing ..it is time to create a better ego ..

the ego tends to be the part of your identity tied to projecting an image of you to the world outside..so it is the egos job to care what other people think of you ..so that it confirms the character you play in real life .

spirt speak through emotions.. so if you honestly believe emotions always lie then.. spirit is always lieing to you

Proper mind programming and administration of cannabis is just what the doctor ordered. In order to cope with the devastating blow from society (news bombarding / info overload, rejection, negative models, peer influence) you must strike back and go against the flow.

RUN AWAY FROM THE CESSPOOL OF IGNORANCE

Discard limiting beliefs until your strong, unblemished self resurfaces and start smelling the roses. It is a matter of choice at the end of the day - and you have to have the mind programming like flowers need rain. Hope you loved that sunshine.

Sorry, I can no longer buy what you're selling here.

For many years I believed much of what you're preaching. But, I've evolved since then.

And I now realize as a living being, emotions are part of who we are. Including spiritual existence.

    We are both...

    Good and Evil

    Divine and EGO

    Yin and Yang

    Spiritual and physical

(the spiritual minds here have already proven this last one. By taking your "spiritual" thoughts, and typing on your "physical" keyboard, to post on this forum)

By denying half of who you are, and hiding from the truth... how will you ever be a whole person?

I guess you can fight yourself, and deny who you are. Or, you can embrace your whole self, and begin to find peace with who you are.

    As for the comment about

Emotions are always lies. Again, good and bad emotions are lies when thinking about something. If you're in the PD world you will have heard this eye opening fact already.

So if you find yourself filling up with emotions and reacting, try and stop it. Take a breath. Don't judge and come back to the present moment.

    I have a question ...

If I witness someone suffering, and it fills me with the emotion of empathy, should I simply take a breath... find my inner sociopath, and become emotionless... and move on?

Or is it OK for me to feel my emotions, and stop to help the other person ?

no this is 2017 you take out your cellphone and start filming .. or call 911 then start filming until the police or trained medical personnel show up,,

unless you are trained and registered and legally able to help

If you give out food to homeless people ..without the proper legal permits .. there is a risk of criminal prosecution ..

so after you go throgh the list .. of am i in physical danger if i help . and if i help can i get my ass sued off or end up in jail ..

if the help needed .. legally requires trained and certified people ..you call 911 ..unless your train or equiped to no make the situation worse

        I think I'll be OK.

I'll just feed the homeless person. And if anyone asks for my name, I'll tell them it's Odahh.

The word EGO is full of false belief and true self is even more confuse..

So Ego is really your personality, that`s YOU, the one who think or talk inside your head
The thing you have to watch is if you`re focused on positive, life empowering talking or negative self talk

lot of peoples refer to the ego as the negative self talk and of the SELF as positive ones

Oh and btw nothing never changes, there`s no real immuable Self that don`t change, that`s mostly a religion idea...

Everything is in movement, everything changes, just empower your self, reprogram your self (or your ego) with positive affirmation...

    Enjoy

The problem with spiritual concepts .. it's easy get trapped in the cycle of chasing one's own tail .. it also gets into being highly judgemental when it comes to emotions or parts of the personality ..

the ego's base problem is at the core you most likely believe you are messed up and you are the only one who is messed up .. so you are trying to project to the world with your ego a facade of being together ..and you get wrapped up in caring what people think about you ..

for the most part the world we live in..8 out of ten people you meet are messed up and trying not to look messed up.. the othere 2 in 10 gave up on trying to look messed up.. and what most peoples egos don't grasp .. is that everyone else is only thinking about you ..when they need you for something or thy are wondering you you might be thinking of them .

anyway i am moving to the belief this is all an advanced simulation after all how many people who you know ..do you really know ..and how many people do you know are currently in a situation they think is one way ..but are missing a big chunk of info ..that totally changes what they are going through .

a journey of a 1000 miles starts with a single step .. who ever taught you that concept spun the signs on the road of your spiritual journey around ..

the higher self is there to give you that feeling that you are going the wrong way ..because it has the view from a higher perspective ..so the battle is not one of the higher self taking over..but it doing what it needs to do to turn you the correct direction or get you up off your a ** when you have rested to long ..

and many spiritual beliefs will lead you in circles

    There was a point?

What I notice is whenever a title asking a question like this appears - the posts in that thread are almost always lectures about 'most people' or 'what you should' or 'how you don't'.

I think people who are comfortable in their own skin - and their own life - aren't the ones who sit around worrying about what people think or what others should do, etc. I also believe 'other people' don't think about you (that is the collective 'you') nearly as much as you think they do.

    a journey of a 1000 miles starts with a single step .
...and ends with a single step, too. Symmetry.

I was thinking this is the kind of stuff my friends and I had 'deep discussions' about in college but then we moved on into real life. Maybe with all the pot legalization, what's old is new again? We are becoming platitudeness once more.

    Key

well you may have missed that the response i had to the post i was responding to with that absolutely off base horrible definition of the higher self as some demonic thing seeking to take control .. was in my view again horrible and would put most on the path of spiritual growth in the opposite direction ..

rather than being harsh and dismissive i chose a friendlier way to disagree with the other persons definition .. no if jay will be ok with me being harsh in my response to the post about words.. in a playful wy not really attacking him just showing a type of response that would jusst lead to insults and agrument rather than any type of friendly discussion .

    ok Jay,

You know what happens if your thoughts are in another language .after a short time you would go crazy and begin harming yourself ..now thought create reality is the lazy way to put it ..the words we use have meanings many time those meanings change over time and 5 people can be using the same word but a slightly different meaning ..so each person has a different version of the same reality ..

and is a blue chair a thought or just word you have to use to define an object in your perceived reality . now do you have to create the chair or the color blue .. and if there where different words for it would your reality be really differnt if it was essentially a blue chair .. ..

you get to control which meaning you abbly to a word .. and which thought flow through your brain ..it just takes training .. you can even have multiple thought of the same thing .. if you so chose to play with the reality you exist in

I practice SOM and I always ask where the guidance is coming from if I'm ever in doubt.

It takes time to intuitively know but as you incorporate listening to spirit into your life it's like listening to a person speaking to you or communicating with you just not through words.
