I prefer the frog stuck in the cream one myself.

Although the Greatest Salesman in the World story about the idiot that carted water from the lake to the town, while someone else, got backers to build a pipeline instead is another good one.

Working hard is fine, but working smart as well as hard is better.

well it takes a lot more "work " to build the pipeline or drill the well ..but even thousand of years ago ..it was deemed a lot smarter to put in the hard work and expense to build the aqueducts and secure water supplies to cities .. than having slave just carry water day in and day out ..

the slaves would rather carry water for their entire lives than put in the harder work to build the big stone thing..thats why the big stone things where usually built by the armies in rome or skilled craftsmen in egypt .

We live in much much different times

if you wanted to sell your own clothing line .. you would not sew every piece together even with a Machine ..

and you don't have to build a factory in any part of the world and staff it and sell enough pieces to cover the costs for hundreds or thousands of employees ..the shipping and marketing ..

You can buy an automated sewing system for 30-40 thousand USD learn to operate it ..and produce up to 1000 pieces an hour ..or less of more customized pieces ..that you and learn to market them on the internet .. or not even make the pieces until someone orders them so you do not even need to warehouse or store anything but threads fabric and buttons ..

but that if you want to make cloths .. you can do other thing that use to require millions of doller of investment and large markets .. for under 10,000 USD

Solalist will whine with the phrase "you didn't build that " but in reality there is less and less you have to build .. it more and more learning how to piece it together

The main thing I took away from the book is that thoughts are things. I think this was the main secret he kept speaking about, but didn't make obvious.

(Lol) For what it's worth ... Studying Personal Development books has radically changed my Life. Sometimes it's good to stop thinking you have everything worked out -- and be humble --- and learn something from Master Teachers.

To me, Think And Grow Rich isn't a motivational..or personal development book. It's a blueprint to how rich people get that way.

The story of the little black girl and the 50 cents (whether it was true or not) had a real impact on me.

I can speak from personal experience that any time I really needed a sale...and needed it that day..I got it. I can't think of an exception.

When something absolutely has to be done....and you are the person that has to do it...it focuses your mind..sharpens your wit....and obstacles tend to fall away.

I'm not a metaphysical thinker. I don't believe in luck, The Law Of Attraction, or spirituality. But I am convinced that willpower is a real thing with real effects.

One of my favorite quotes ever is from the movie Batman Begins. Bruce Wayne is training with his mentor on an ice covered lake.

"The training is nothing. The will is everything".

For me Personal Development Books are simply Books that help People grow and evolve Personally. My favourite quotation from "Think And Grow Rich" is: "Every adversity, every failure, and every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit ..." It basically helped me realize that was a lot to learn and appreciate from dealing with/overcoming Mental Illness. Kind of Life-Changing to be honest.

"An Iron Will" (that I remember you read several years ago) is a great book on "Will Power." (Just search Google it's it the Public Domain ...)

the thing i have learned in the past few years studying gardening .. is pruning stimulates growth ..and when crap gets worked into the soil it feeds the growth .. but if you just pile up the crap and let is sit .. it stinks and makes the ground around it toxic ..

What i am finding.. is the problems are less seed themselves and crap than needs to be worked in to the soil or stuff that needs to be pruned away.. to span greater potential future growth .

Right now there are so many options for self improvement or personal development .. or just study of real successful people of any level .. and in almost every field ..it's easy enough to do your own study of success and listen to how successful people talk ..or write ..

i just did an edit on this .. instead of calling it self development .. it is more self education..or personally directed education ...the 13 years of k through 12 .. is about teaching you how to show up and do time to get grade.. teaching you how to be an employee..and giving you real deep seated anti success programming so you will settle for a low hourly wage ..

I think if i remember it get talked about early on in think and grow rich why free public education has it's problems..espessialy if it condition you to hate learn or trying anything new.

The only thing i remember about much of my k-12 education ..that sticks out clearly.. was the teacher when i was in the 5th grade whiling how they made so little doing such an important job(poorly educating students) as a teacher..while people get paid millions of dollars to hit a baseball or throw a football.

Always a classic, TAGR. Definitely the book that started me on my current journey. The lessons are timeless. Also fascinating to see how writing and language and terminologies have changed over time.
