There are two things you can benefit from:

1: Take advantage of freebies and people's experience - there are some truly great posts there.

2: Create a good freebie yourself and give it away with a link to your website/affiliate link.

    Hope this helps.

This is total bull Shi% you can not create a freebie to give a away so that you can spam the members with a link

If you do create a freebie product you can only have a direct download link with no email captures

here are some of the rules

      2. All threads will be moderated prior to approval

All threads in the War Room will be reviewed prior to approval to make sure your offer is suitable for the War Room. All replies in existing threads are not moderated and will appear instantly. Please note that unsuitable content, such as PLR products, will not be accepted.

      3. No forced opt-in posts will be accepted

Forcing someone to sign up to an email list really isn't the best idea anyway. You want people who "want" to be on your list, not people who were forced to be on there.

Forcing people to sign up to get something from you really isn't keeping with the spirit of the War Room. Plus, it makes people want to give away junk just to get people on their list.

      Hope this helps

So, it sounds like it would be okay to create a free resource and share it via link or download. Just don't include an opt-in on the page or within the resource. Is that correct? Thinking about signing up myself.

Mate as long as it is of value and the WR members get something out of it should not be a problem just no PLR if in doubt use the help desk and set up a ticket via the tab up the top
      and asked for the rules

Yes, just make sure it's unique (not PLR), valuable, and that people don't have to opt-in to anything or do anything to get it other than just hit a download button.

Unless something has changed fairly recently, you can include an optin on the download page, you just can't require people to optin in order to get the offer. Again, I haven't posted an offer in the War Room for a while, so this may have changed.

For example, let's say you have a collection of 100 marketing graphics/buttons you created yourself that you are giving to members. You post a direct link to your offer's download page in the War Room. On that download page you have a direct link for people to download the 100 graphics, no hassles, no BS.

However, on that page you can also have an optin form that says something like "Get 50 More Marketing Graphics - Sign up here". People sign up for your email list and you send them the bonus graphics. You can also include offers in the ReadMe, etc., included in the download.

The key is to make the free, no hassle offer really good so people will comment on your thread, encouraging others to visit your download page. But don't bump the thread yourself, as it may get your thread locked or even deleted.

I can tell you what I do.

In the WR, I only post information in threads.

    - No PDFs
    - No Websites.
    - Just written content.

The value I get is twofold:

    1. Helping out other members.
    2. People learn about me and buy my products.

The type of closed forums I'm used to are those that contain high-profile information, blocked to the public. They tend not to be locations where you harvest subs, but places where you benefit from shared knowledge.

    Cheers,

    Tom

That's hardly spamming with an affiliate link - having a link in a report is classic internet marketing practiced by all the top respected internet marketers - provide something of value and then have an affiliate link at the end of the report.
