"Hard" Versus "Highly Uncomfortable" and Making Money Online

22 years ago I could bench press 330 pounds.

I was heavily into bodybuilding and weight lifting.

But I have not touched a weight in 10 years.

If you asked me to bench press 330 pounds now the experience would be incredibly "hard" because of the physically of the experience.

In reverse, 22 years ago I huffed and puffed while walking up a flight of stairs. I was a bloated pig, 210 pounds of pudge, strong as an ox but with similar cardio.

Yet a few months ago I could run 13 miles while nose breathing. I pulled back from running during travels but could do 8 miles now - nose-breathing - no sweat, being 165 pounds of lean, mean, running and yoga trained machine. Again, this is all physical, formerly hard, now easy. But it is solely on a physiological plane. About da body.

If I told you to whip out your credit card to buy your domain and hosting, to lay the proper foundation for a successful blog, most folks would say that doing so is "hard" but from a physiological perspective, almost all of us have been blessed with hands, eyes and a few hundred dollars worth of credit, so physio-wise, it is quite easy.

BUT.....the process is "highly uncomfortable" for most Warriors who *fear* spending money, patiently building a profitable blog on a rock solid foundation and delaying their gratification for months or year.

Ditto for all folks who want to MMO who say it's hard or incredibly difficult to learn the skill of MMO, to create helpful content and to build bonds by promoting top folks in your niche without looking for anything in return. Nope; not hard at all. Physically, most of us can do this stuff easily.....but doing these things over years without obsessing over results is highly uncomfortable.

When you begin to think through the difference between "hard aka physiogically impossible" and "highly uncomfortable aka scary but quite do-able" it gets easier and easier to make uncomfortable but freeing, success-promoting decisions. Like slowly visualizing a climb up Mount Everest, to a climb up a tiny little hill, the visualizing process may take years, then months, then weeks, then days, but you begin to make a clear distinction between what is genuinely impossible right now and what is probable, and in fact, a certainty, when you develop the skill of doing freeing, success-promoting, highly uncomfortable things habitually.

Your thoughts guys?

well with mountain climbing there is a progression of learning to climb before you climb everest.. because if you can't find a guide who thinks you have what it takes to survive the climb ..

you are saying an important thing here ryan that most people don't get when they here work hard or the think hard work is what make people rich or wealthy ..

people want to make lawyer or doctor money with an online business ..but think they can just visualize and find the correct ..biz op ..

but i am starting to think delayed gratification is the wrong phrase ..you have to learn the hard skill of getting the gratification from the hard work and the improvement ..the problem is if people are doing it just to make money..it is hard to do it if their is no guarantee you will make money ..

if you where running and doing it just to find some way to make money.. rather than for all the other benefits it brings you.. you would stop running after a time ..or in a few weeks ..

bah..won't go down the path here this forum or the thing ..is dedicating every thing you do or every waking moment to make as much money and be a success ..

I like where you come from with what you talk about ryan ..and this you are saying here need to be explained more from different people..and not every new skill you learn and build has to be about making more money ..

there is a difference between / difficult and painful .i have problems with my knees that got me put out of the military at 18.. because it was painful to run ..and occasionally i will step wrong and my left knee cap will shift from the front of my leg to the side of my knee.. it is far more painful than it sounds ..and i end up limping around for a few weeks to a month after ..

there is a difference between being sore from pushing past you normal boundary and causing pain in the short or long term .

but there are many times by not doing the hard or difficult thing or the uncomfortable thing now ..you will go through physical, financial, or emotional pain in the the future ..and probably all three ..

people may not have written goals..or goals that they are following .. but there is a lot of evidence as to where what they are doing now will get them in 5 ,10 or 20 years ..

Hey Ryan, I really enjoyed this post. This is something that I have just set out on myself. I just purchased my domain a couple weeks ago and at first I was excited about the opportunity to make money online and help thousands of people through the content I create.

Then reality set in of the PROCESS its going to be before I even start generating income from it.

However, I have realized something through my own reading and listening. That something is that those who are successful (in anything really) focus more on this process. In fact, they are addicted and obsessed with this process. The process of providing more value to others than you ever expect to make in returns.

The dreamers tend to focus on the glory of the end result (making money online) and the achievers obsess over the actual process of getting there.

I will constantly remind myself of this underlying truth as I begin to go through the process myself.

    Thanks for the insight!
