Patience The Secret Ingredient To Making This Online Thing Work

You know what's hard for many people who are trying ot build online businesses?

PATIENCE

Most of us want this to work now. We want to be able to wake up the next morning and see the money flowing into our accounts. The truth of the matter is that making money online doesn't work like this.

We have to have the patience to know that this is going to take some time. It's just like building a house, you know that it won't be done in one day so you have to be patient to see the end result.

When getting started online you have to go through a period where you learn how things work. After that you go through a period where you try a few things and some of them start to work a little bit. From there you choose the things that work and then you try to scale them.

It's a slow process and it's the type of process that many people don't like going through, but it's just how this online thing works. Many people don't understand this because many modern sales pages have them jaded. They think that once you get started online and you try a few things that you'll be making money quickly and don't get me wrong this can happen sometimes, but it's very rare.

You have to learn how to love putting in the work and being patient for the result. Being patient helps you to stop chasing after the shiny object and stick to something until it works.

Conclusion

Have patience and think long-term as you are building your online business. Stop looking for the quick way and start looking at the slow long way. Over time you'll start to see the things that work and the things that don't work. From there you'll start putting the things that work together and in a few years, you should have a profitable business if you're patient enough.

Have a productive day warriors!

Totally agree with this. Some people quit their jobs prematurely which then adds more pressure when trying to build their online business. Doing this will only make them more impatient because now you have bills pilling up and no way to pay them.

I agree with you but I also think putting loads of elbow grease is important too. Loads of these sites also say "do this 1-2-3 plan then wait and watch the goods roll in" naaaaa I don't think that happens you gotta hype your site by marketing.

The thing I have learned about patiently helping people and not worrying about results; you literally appear to be all over the place, and those rocking results you feel pretty detached from keep flowing in, with greater and greater ease, over time. It is like you put in the work today, tomorrow, then for a month, then a year, doing the right things, and all those friends and blog posts and guest posts and comments make you omni-present in your niche, boosting your online income. Fab message here.

I agree with this! I never thought about this but this has happened to my old web host who offered free web hosting from being active in the forum. He had an awesome flowing forum 14 years ago!!! It's now dead but all his customers come back to him for hosting because he created a community and became our friend. I mean I know I've returned to him as a paying customer xD

Completely agree with you OP. Online or offline, patience is something we need to succeed in our businesses. That, and having other sources of income just in case something happens.

I'll always have a healthy respect for anyone busting their butts off to make things work for them online, no matter their walk of life. I know this one freelancer from the Philippines I used to hire for cheap years ago and now she runs her own VA company. Amazing what people can do if they set their hearts and minds on it.

    Needed to read this today.

I've been blogging now for around 3 months and my traffic/social interaction isn't growing much at all. Granted it's only been 3 months but the amount of time I put in to, editing, shooting, writing etc it's really disheartening not seeing people engaging in something I'm proud of.

    Thanks for this post.

I'm glad to help. I have a few questions for you.

Does your message connect with your audience? What type of content do they truly want?

The easiest way to figure this out, is to find other people in your chosen niche who have popular blogs, Youtube channels or whatever and try to understand what they are doing and why it's working.

Growing an audience is understanding what works and then creating your own unique twist. Understand their fears and what their dreams are. Create value for them and they'll love you for a lifetime.

      Wishing you massive success!

  • I agree, you need to be patient, within reason. You NEED to know when the returns are supposed to start coming in. The online thing is a business. You can't wait forever and keep operating at a loss. Yes, be patient.. Wait for a reasonable amount of time. And if it takes too long, cut your losses.

Sure a good business plan is important, but I've seem many people who've had good plans and their business still didn't succeed in their chosen market. There are many other variables the can determine whether a business will be successful or not.

    Great advice oppyeaunome,

Having patience, along with persistence seem to be two of the character traits that will determine whether or not someone succeeds or fails at whatever venture they've decided to embark on.
You must have the patience to be willing to learn what is necessary in order to succeed at whatever it is your doing. You have to be willing to fail and go at it again.
You are absolutely right about the shiny objects out there. Many times people go for the shiny objects get discouraged and give up.
Patience with learning process will help you to get through the difficult times and ultimately succeed at this online business thing or anything else you do in life.
There are so many overnight success, I made $50k in 10 days starting from zero B.S. out there that many people think this is going to happen for them.
While some of these stories might be true many are not. Also, some of these people may have backgrounds and connections that enabled them to do in a short amount of time that would take someone without that same background much longer.
Someone with an extensive background in sales and marketing who starts an online business and already has a lot of contacts or business they've worked with over the years will hit the ground running when they start their business whereas someone else without this background will take longer but can still succeed with a little or a lot of patience and persistence.
Just like any other endeavor we take up we have to give ourselves time to learn the basics. I encourage anyone who feels like giving up on having a successful online business to keep going, be patient, and you will succeed!

I totally agree with you on patience.

But these is one critical thing I like to point out as well.

Which is having an audience for your niche that will ultimately join your list as subscribers and buy what you recommend as customers.

Here is my interesting observation having done IM for 10 years.

If those people do not know and trust you, it is very hard to earn no matter how many emails you send them so long as they consisted of little valuable content and just offers after offers.

So how exactly do you get them to like and trust you?

Most importantly where to find them.

Well, this forum is the perfect answer though there are other forums as well if your niche is not related to IM.

    Secondly, Facebook and Meetup groups.

Another thing I do discover is when I have an audience, people are more open to read and check out if I send them content with my links.

Be it my Ezine articles, blogs or Youtube links.

That is so true! In this online game of making money online, if your mentality is get rich quick, you're gonna fall victim to scammers and lose more than when you started.

If you have the patience to wait things out, give it some times, then decide on the results, you'll have better chance of moving forward, and onward, and upward

The greatest things that eventuated in my reality were when...

    I RAN OUT OF PATIENCE

Then I took drastic measures having realized that there was
a lot of potential in there, it was just inactive. Because
without realizing it, I fell prey to the subtle indoctrination
that wants you to NOT VISUALIZE and just stay average.

Things were so bad that even my depiction in the mirror wanted
to slap me silly, or just so the figment of my imagination so it was.

    So I dabbled with hypnotism.

In just three months, I transformed into a beast.

The Beast decimated my former pathetic self, and a new one
emerged, virtually out of chaos... I commanded ORDER.

Visualization has always been key and since there was
a resolute will, almost nothing seemed as impossible.

Nowdays it's smooth sailing the instant I welcomed my new self.

You have rightly said that patience is needed to build this online business, however passage of time does not automatically solve a problem. While you are patient try to identify the problem that is actually given you a challenge in your online business. If don't have enough training or a mentor, admit your ignorance and take the right step. Problem and challenges in life are success in disguise.

Once you are aware of this it should be extremely easy to eradicate from your life. The next time you are going to make a decision, just tell your self to delay for a day or two..

      Then:

      Do some extra research.

Ask someone with greater knowledge on the topic for their input. Don't base your decision on what they tell you, but add it to the mix of information you have.

Make sure you're not basing your decision on faulty information or emotional pique.

Evaluate the short and long-term consequences of your decision.

Just decide not to decide. You can call that procrastination or exercising common-sense - depending on how you view employing whatever intelligence you possess.

Once you learn to control this decision making process, you will be able to gain greater control over other areas in you life. There's a term for this. It's called, personal growth.

I totally agree. Some people quit their jobs to pursue online marketing full time. I think what happens to a lot of them is that they become jaded with the make money online fast thing and think that they're going to make money faster if they had more time.

What starts to happen is they then realize that making money online is HARD! A lot harder then they thought and now they don't have a job and money is becoming tighter and they never truly get the break they were hoping for.

From there they end up saying internet marketing doesn't work it's all a scam.

Keep your day job so you can pay your bill and all the other stuff and in time when you start to make more from your side business, than on your day job you can quit and do it full time.

I think patience is good, but I think it also comes down to expectation management. If you know what you want and what's required than you can set about doing it. I think a certain level of confidence is required in order to even be patient. The reason for this is because if someone is just patient, but still doesn't get the results they want then they can really be demotivated. Things have to start taking shape little by little in order to fuel patience. It's like confidence. Confidence equals high expectation or belief, but where does this come from though? What does it take to negatively impact it and what's required in order to restore it? It's the same with patience.

You are absolutely right! I agree that we should have patience in everything that we do, we cannot get the good result in just a snap of our finger, patience and hard work is the key, we also need to have a goal and good plan, we need to have a strong determination, we should be ready with the outcome, in some way what we expect will not work the way we wanted to, but don't lose hope. We should take it nice and slow, they say patience is a virtue so we should always pray for a good result.

I've seen this ring true when building a list. First 1 or 2 leads come in per day, then 4 to 5. Then 10. Then an article gets shared and you get 50 per day for a few days, etc. It's a snowball that grows in size, but it starts slowly.

Thanks Claude. In some cases I think that's true. However many times I think being patient (when building a Website/Business/etc.) can actually be a good thing. Because it takes time (sometimes a lot of time) before a Person starts seeing results (etc.)

And that's true. It usually does take time before you see profitable results. But that isn't because you are waiting to see results. If what you are doing isn't profitable at the start, you are doing something wrong.

And you need to find out what you are doing wrong, and change it. It isn't sitting back and waiting to see a result.....

It's consistent diligent work, knowing that you are getting better at what you are doing, and eventually you work it out, and you make a profit.

Of course, the smart thing to do is learn what you need to do, from a successful business model, before you even start.

It's that when people read the word "Patience", it will be taken as inaction over time, assuming that it just takes time to see results. That isn't a virtue. It's laziness.

It takes patience to learn to walk.....but that doesn't mean sitting there until it comes to you. It means constantly trying to walk, falling down, getting better, and eventually you can walk. There is real consistent effort..trial and error...activity.....and learning from your mistakes.

there is a process to learning to walk.. just like there is a process to farming or growing any plants . or becoming a doctor, lawyer airline pilot ..

the problem with this online thing .. is that somehow people believe they can skip or idnor the process .. of learning how to build products , learn marketing and do all the things that are require to have a successful business .. just because it's "online "

somehow the online part .. what ever that actually means in peoples warped imaginations means somehow you can buy a 39 dollar ebook ..and go on to build a 6 figure business ..or 7 figure business .. in weeks or months..with no skills ..going in

i guess it has been a web based disease since the beginning and the dot com boom

the list of thing you put in an earlier post.. are skills that take time to build and are best built mostly offline .. or with real products people can hold in their hands

the online thing may mean drastically reducing the cost of physical overhead and marketing costs.. but still requires making a profit .. and reinvesting that into growing the business ..

I have never heard (or read about) a successful person, when asked how they became successful, say "I was patient".

Patience can absolutely help people become more successful...at waiting.

And as for being a virtue. The only person thinks being patient is a virtue, is a person that isn't going to do anything.

Well I have spent many months putting together my current venture. Without patience I would have given up months ago.

Everything takes as long as it takes. (And IMO patience is an important component many times.)

You're confusing this with only wanting to talk about building a website. This project is nothing more than mental masturbation.

Are you talking about those sites that will never be done, because they were never actually started. lol Funny, stuff. If you ever expect to see them, I hope you have a tremendous amount of patience. It's going to be a long wait - as in, "Not in this lifetime." :-)

I want to address that. There is a huge difference between helping and supporting.

Helping is giving useful advice and directing to a goal. It's a guiding hand, the insight of experience. It's "Here, let me show you how to pull yourself out of the quicksand"

Supporting is what people do when they have no ability to help, no experience to share, no insight to impart.

Support is "Here, let me get in the quicksand with you, and show you that it's not that bad".

He fails to tell you that I offered to build both of his sites for him - FREE OF CHARGE. Not one - BOTH!!! Watch now how he will conveniently tell you that he doesn't remember that, at all. Total dishonesty!

The fact is, there is nothing to build.

Additionally, I have done a lot for people, here, that no one will ever know about because I contacted them through PM's and offered to help them, again, FREE OF CHARGE!!! My ego doesn't need the recognition. I help when and where I can. I have been blessed and I try to give back. I simply DO NOT advertise it - but if I'm going to be accused of not supporting people, I'm going to stand-up for myself.

Ask him what he has ever done to help anyone, here - outside of posting ridiculous claptrap that is supposed to make people feel loved and supported? Total bullshit. Meaningless drivel. Immature pablum.

He has done NOTHING, to help ANYONE, EVER. Never has and never will. There is no regular member on this forum that has done less to help anyone. Well, maybe his nomadic twin. You can't find a single meaningful post that he has ever made that helped anyone. I defy you to find one. It can't be done. It doesn't exist.

I will donate $100 to the charity of your choice and have them email you the receipt for my donation, if you can find one.

I believe you, but calm down before you have an aneurysm.

And I remember how you gave me lots of help with a phone script, like you said...without charge. You have contributed quite a lot here, and to me personally.

Maybe a dozen people on the Offline Forum have greatly contributed to the membership's success. They know who they are.

But to be fair, this is more the "Support" section than the "Help" section. Still, sometimes useful exchanges.

and people who have cleaned up their own messes and gotten through the nasty problems .. will. tend not to sugar coat things and be more likly to demand you take responsibility to clean your own mess up ..no matter who you think was at fault ..

successful people build success by digging into their bigger problems and cleaning up the mess .. rather than getting emotional help and support .. while not actually fixing the problem

Willy Wonka could not have said it better. I have needed emotional help and support at various points in my life. I utilized the services of a good shrink and learned how to develop the skills that have allowed me to become the master of my universe.

I don't look to anyone other than myself, to fix anything that's wrong with me or any aspect of my life. It's called personal responsibility. The alternative is being a leech, sucking the life out of everyone around them.

People like that should just buy themselves an emotional support pig and STFU. The world is full of cry babies that want to be coddled by do-gooders that are unable to recognize the harm they are actually doing. They will get exactly what they deserve. Large servings of useless bullshit on which to feast. Yum-yum.

Last thing my shrink said to me about ten years ago ..was there was nothing more he could help me with.. i was fine when i would sit down and chat with him.. i had know i needed to get out of the northeast and the boston area ..most of my life and get to a much warmer climate .. but stayed near my family .. and did not make the move until i got on the Plane to Vegas 2 and a half years ago .. it's been rough .. but the last year being in Tucson Arizona .. i have had my physical heal almost fully return and i have had the best mental stability with the fewest bouts of depression or anxiety ..of my adult life ..

I have gone through a really rough patch.. the thing i most feared happening and why i didn't move earlier .. and i Have come out so much better for it ..now i need to figure out how to move on to the next thing ..

Patiences is great some things need to take time and the process especially if others have gone through stuff and can guide you through the process .. support you from a reasonable fact based point of references .. verses .. hope and praying while sitting and not doing what you know you need to do.. and just waiting for things to get better on their own.. that will work with broken bones.. but you either get stuck with a limp for life .. or eventually need a doctor to re break it ..so it heals right

Usually, the more "rough patches" you encounter, the better you will be in the long run, both by what you learn from them and the process you employed to overcome them. That is, of course, as long as you are NOT the one creating them through continuous self-destructive behavior. There's a lot of that going around.

Life is a struggle. Learn to love the struggle.

Fortunately, at this point in my life, the struggles I have to face on a daily basis are few and far between. So much so that when one arises, I don't shirk it. I gleefully face it head-on, knowing that at this point there is very little in my life I haven't already been challenged by, previously and I know that whatever I am facing, I will conquer it. There is absolutely no doubt about that. I am the most powerful being in the entire Universe! Bar, none!!

I turned my emotional support pig into baby back ribs, decades, ago.

Patience often means that you have to cope with something.

That is often not the case.

You have to *adore* what you're into and success will become undeniably inevitable.

To the point of being obsessed and the idea that you strung together in your "deeper mind" starts flourishing....without conscious realization. Only the apprehension that you can be bigger, better and faster as if you were obsessed/possessed.

It all begins with the premise that there's always room for expansion.

I started realizing uncapped potential when I committed to the unwalked paths of the psyche.

Started drilling inside with unadulterated zeal until I struck gold.

There are actually, two versions of yourself: the one who needs pampering
and the one that kicks some major arse in the chronicles of the evolved you.

Dedication, hard work, good planning and Patience is a sure way for success. The most important to start in the correct direction. That requires reading and research or hiring a coach.

No, it's most important to finish in the correct direction.

It helps, but it guarantees nothing. Very important to always keep that thought in the forefront of your mind, lest you delude yourself. There are many people here that will do that for you with their pablum sayings. Don't help them. :-)

It believe it requires enough reading and research, so you never have to even consider hiring a coach.

I think you have forgotten what a stable genius I am. I know words. I know the best words.

And....I have a natural instinct for science. I have a big brain. I'm like, really a smart person.

do not agree with learning to love the struggle.. it more learning to expect the struggle and deal with your struggle.. and not try to protect others from their struggle ..or let them dick around.. point them where they need to focus . and get the most real improvment for their buck..

eventually if you tell people how to fix their own damn problem enough .. they stop looking to you for help and support when they have the same problem over and over ..

now that makes life so much easier .. and give you more time to address your own problems and struggle
