The first step is to shut down Facebook because that sucks a huge amount of your day IF you let it. Shut your emails down too.Unless you're expecting something urgent, life will go on and you can check them at a later time.
You'll be surprised how much more work you can get done by simply doing these two things.

This is absolutely right. Facebook cuts down a huge chunk of your day every day. I wish there was a way to deactivate it without having to give up Facebook messenger. Deleting the app on your phone helps somehow. Removing yourself from all forms of social media is I think a good way to deal with procrastination (if social media is your number one cause of procrastinating).

People who have problems with procrastination shouldn't have their own business. They should work in a job with hours, duties, and supervision. Their ambition and drive has to come from outside themselves. This is perhaps 95-98% of us.

For the few.....procrastination isn't a problem because they want to do what they need to do.

Nobody procrastinates doing something they really want to do. If you have a goal, and are procrastinating doing the work, it's because you just...don't...want...to...do...the...work.

The only time procrastination is a problem is if you just....don't...want...to....do ....it.

If you have goals, and you are procrastinating, you don't have goals...you have fantasies.

i agree with you on this.. my policy when it comes to procrastination.. is just admit you don't want to do something .. and stop making a list of things to do in a day that you don't want to do ..and to stop telling people you will do stuff tomorrow if you have no interest in doing it ..

people who are doing what they want to to or get to do what they want to do and make money ..don't procrastinate .. now there is always an amount of stuff you don't want to do .. but if not doing it takes away from getting to do ..or actually doing what you want ..

A massive chunk of people equate work with something the don't want to do or need some kind of outside force or motivation to do.. there are a lot more than a small percent of people in the other group.. but many hide from the eyes of the masses or even the highly prodctive type A people ..

my understand of this comes from the year and a half i worked in Vegas as a street performer..living of tips without actually asking for money most of the time for legal reasons .until Vegas banned most of it for terrorism fears .. and being around a thousand other people grinding while no one else was setting your schedule.. but the crowds the weather and the money

I my experience, the more money I made, the stronger temptation there was to procrastinate, because the need to make money every single day became less and less important.

If all your bills are paid, you have money in the bank - and the sun is shining, it's very easy to say, "Yes, I promised myself I would do this, today - but, screw it. I'm going swimming."

If the debt collectors are at your door and you're procrastinating - you need help. :-)

acctually in my book that real success ..when you get to that point and always have that choice ..and umm reduce the amount of time you need to work.. while having most of the time be because you chose..or build a lot of time where work and play are steps away ..

It's a lot more doable now than even 10 or 20 years ago..

and there are a lot of people or a growing number of people who live their lives like that but hide from the miserable masses and the type a work work work to succeed .. people ..who won't actually swim if they go to the pool ..they will be their working on a laptop or cellphone ..

Sit with is Navi; it is just fear, manifest as procrastination.

Putting stuff off indicates you fear doing that stuff. But if you sit in a quiet room for a bit, with the feelings, the feelings pass. Then you either do it today, or simply realize you never needed to do it anyway, and let it go.

For me, I just have to keep reminding myself of my goals. They are written down right in front of me and laminated. Constantly reminding myself of the WHY I'm doing what I'm doing, makes it easier to do.

Set a big goal. Think about it everyday. Take action towards that goal. The action will become a habit and you'll want to do more of it. Instead of just thinking about stuff.

    Works for me anyway!

Many people find that approach very overwhelming, which only worsens their procrastination.

Better to set small, realistic, easily achievable goals which help build self-confidence and clearly demonstrate progress is being made. This also builds enthusiasm for achieving the long-term goal.

Routine. Whatever it is that you don't want to do make it a habit and build from there. E.g. don't want to go for a run, go for a light 10 minutes jog 3 times a week. Easy peasy then go for 15 next week. Then maybe you can add fartlek or hill climbs, etc.

This is an area that I also struggle. What kind of stuff do you do whilst procrastinating? Because it all depends on that.

I found this method called the Pomodoro Technique >>
    https://francescocirillo.com/pages/pomodoro-technique

Which is you work hard for 20-25 minutes straight then have short 5 minute break. Then this keeps repeating until you finish your task it helps you concentrate more because you know there's a scheduled break coming up lol.

Also, I deleted my facebook and Instagram in January and this has freed up a lot of time. The main issue now is procrastinating on forums... lol

not dissagreeing or agreeing with you just building off some of your points

i still have facebook.. but i removed my family over a year ago.. and people who only want to talk about political stuff get removed .. which keep the number of people on my facebook small .. that and my fiance gets jealous anytime i add a new female to my friends list .. so i have less than 30 people on my facebook .. as far as instagram i stopped looking at that daily after i stopped street preforming in Vegas last year .. looking to se when people posted pictures they took with me ...

I'm very selfish ..it's my time to do with as i please .. or what i need to do.. my family never got that so that's why they are not in my life anymore.. they use to invent work for me to do in my free time ..or just set up very inefficient systems for getting stuff done .. so they always needed help ..stuff 1 person should have been able to do in a third the time the way they did it it took several people to do ..

oh let chop wood all day on the weeken to save 100 buck a month off the heating bill in the winter.. when the people chopping wood make 100$ an hour combined ..

      hard work ...

It's your time ..you can have the peasant mentality ..slave or sirf thinking.. where you spend your time looking like you are working.. or claiming you are working .. so you can earn the right apperent in the eyes of others ..to enjoy your time ..

or you can put in the work to do what you need to do and then have the money to enjoy the time you are not working .. or you can mess with your self image and keep setting tasks you don't want to do.. then feel guilty doing what you want to do or kind of want to do while claiming you are procrastinating

The best thing to do is start comforted in the knowledge that you can always stop.

Often starting proves to be less daunting that anticipated and so much more fullfilling than the previous state of procrastinating.

last night i was relaxing out in the desert .. looking at the stars and heard the sound of a rattle from about five feet behind me ..

i was very calm and relaxed.. and there was no real fear.. but there was not hesitation ..no desire to turn around and confirm with my eyes what my ears heard.. slip my sneaker back on grabs my bag.. and moved away from that area ..

I have actually been expecting to hear that sound for quit a while.. and there are times when fear is real and telling you the correct thing to do..

Which is precisely why the snake rattles - to trigger fear. The snake has no interest in attacking you, unless it believes you are going to attack it. The rattle is Mother Nature's way of giving fair warning so all parties can go their separate ways, unscathed.

Something that works for me is to ...

    Just do it!
    (All royalties to Nike.)

Seriously though many times I can't be bothered
doing anything ... However once I get going and start
    working I usually have a good/productive day.

And thinking about it if you are feeling like you don't
want to work (at the time) that's more of an
    accomplishment for the day.

    (HTH)

    P.S.
Something like newton and OptedIn said ... It's great
to have an "overall goal" (something that really inspires
and motivates you) ... And then break that goal down
    into steps.

Motivation to do anything is simple...

You will always be motivated to move towards what you define as being pleasurable.

You will always move away from what you define as being painful.

If you are procrastinating, its because you have a belief/definition that working is painful and that procrastinating is more pleasurable.

If you are doing something you truly enjoy and NOT just to make money, you will not procrastinate.

i have overcome my procrastination problem, from the old me i was so lazy that i'm thinking that work can be done later or after. But as a growing human being, it was not really a good habit having a procrastination type of thinking.

in this world where life sucks. you should not be over drowning yourself because life will defeat you, so you should play with life. and start thinking happy and positive thoughts, having a clear mind set that a work is should be done. More productive a day the better than having nothing. always believe in yourself the you can do it right and in time so you could be productive. seeing your outcome can make you happy, just by seeing that you yourself is growing good.

Use a timer, either on your cell, or online. Set it for 33.33. Then work, knowing it will soon be over. OR throw a load of laundry in. Work ONLY while the laundry is being washed. When the buzzer goes off. QUIT working.

Then work ONLY while the clothes are drying, a bit more time to get something done. When the dryer sounds done, go fold and hang your clothes.

You may not get all that much more work done, but at least you'll have some clean clothes to wear and you will feel good that you ACCOMPLISHED something.

I routinely listen to Cosmic Master's hypnosis. Never procrastinated ever since and I am able to perform better, complete a few more tasks while having a blast. I am a very open-minded person now, don't criticize that often, don't judge others (instead of learning) and it pays back in spades.

I wouldn't want to "restore" myself to my previous identity.

It feels real good being me, the true me.

Wake up early (at the same time) every day.

People think that waking up at 12 pm is the same as waking at 5 am as long as you're getting 8-hours sleep.

But let's be fair, if you're sleeping until 12 there's nothing productive going on.

Therefore, never try to go to be early. That never works. Have a good ol' alarm instead.

Everyone's biological clock is different. As long as you put in an honest day's work, based on the number of hours you believe that to be - it makes no difference where those hours fall on a clock face.

But let's be fair, if you're sleeping until 12 there's nothing productive going on.

Therefore, never try to go to be early. That never works. Have a good ol' alarm instead.
In my world and definition of success .. i may way up with the sound of roosters.. but not to the sound of alarm ..

now the year and a half i was a street performer in Vegas .. the times to make the most money tended to be thursday to sunday night about 7 pm to 2 am ..now many times i would be back up and out on the strip from 9 am to 1 or 2 pm .. then hed home and nap through the hot part of the day ..

as i owned my own costume it was folly up to me to decide when to be on the strip working.. and when there was shade and crowds .. i was out there ..no hint of procrastinating .. unless i was really badly hungover ..

my health is better if i sleep when the sun is down and wake up before it is up in the sky .. so i would have had to get out of that eventually .. and for the first 12 years i was working i worked 2 and 3rd shift .. so it matters when you are most productive or when you mak the most money .. as to when is the best time to wake up and go to sleep .. and if you want to wake up early you need to pick a way to make money that benefits from being up early

Like hunting and plucking crowing roosters and serving them for lunch. Then taking the rest of the day off. :-)

when i was in the philipines there where roosters all over the place tied up outside.. the wild animals left them alone.. it is actually easy enough to sleep through the sound lol ..

but if you have roosters and chickens and you want happy chicken that give tasty eggs.. you sign on to wake up early enough to let them out of the coop and feed them .. and what ever other animals you get after chickens.. but i come from massachusettst.. and if you didn't want to be parked on the highway on the way to work.. if you worked in boston .. you had to wake up and be on the road earlier than everyone else ..

when i had jobs i always showed up a little early.. no procrastinating getting to work.. and no procrastinating when i was in Las Vegas ..i could sit there and watch a movie..in my apartment in the evening and be thinking.. in the tme i wached this movie i could have made 30-50 dollars ..

I drank a lot in Vegas and tended to measure the money i made per 25 ounce bud ice .. made 12 dollars drinking that one ,, 20 dollars on the next ,, 35 on the one after that . 6 dollars on he next because i was a bit drunk by that one ..

I don't think i have drank as much total in the last 14 months as i did in 2 days in Vegas working on the strip

          Im adding this ..

the major problem with success advice from the motivation field ..is it ignores weather what you are doing has spikes of activity .. and rather than say getting all you can out of those spikes .. and gearing around those spikes .. you treat every day every wee .. every hour .. every month .. like it should be equal ..and have the same outcome ..

and then prescribes the system to win under those conditions ..so the way to win to make a million dommars a year of course is to make 83,000 dollars a month.. or 20 something thousand a week or 3000 or more a day 6 days a week ..

Once you develop the "esoteric voice" you will feel the reassurance that you're on the right track and you'll stop moaning. It will guide you. It will feel real good knowing that you got rid of the pesky voice that throws you off balance. So stay afloat with the voice that truly cares about your well being and the fog will clear your path to self discovery.

there are apps that get sold to employers that do that kind of snooping on employees.. but it is easy enough to keep track of it on your own.. rather than spending how every much time looking at the app to see where you are wasting time and on a daily basis ..

Might need to start smoking pot, again, for that to happen. There's a lot here that makes me laugh, but it's not very humorous. Is there such a thing as 'sad laughter.'

and stop shouting about trampled grass....so there!
Well, I may refer to it as a lawn, but there's not much in the way of anything that I'd call grass. It's almost as bad as in S. Philly where people spray paint the concrete in front of their houses, green. Yes - that's a real thing. :-)

Believing that misconception should take you far in life. Procrastination is a beast that feeds on itself and is never satiated.

Just sit back and wait for it to pass. That'll work. Guaranteed.

Has it escaped you that what you are saying is nothing more than an excuse to continue to procrastinate? Let me guess. You work as a "life coach."

Karma points are collected by doing good and being a positive force in the universe, usually through the material aspects of our existence, since these are the things that people generally need to survive. You have already stated that you have taken yourself out of the running.

Enjoy the afterlife. It doesn't appear that there is very much for you in this one.

Posts like this should never be removed. How else came shame and derision be heaped upon the poster? It's important that we allow people to show us who they are and what they're made of. This is how we learn whom to avoid as if they were carrying the plague.

      .
No. The constant pursuit of happiness means that the person is empty inside and thinks "Happiness" will fix their problems. They think that if they can just find happiness, everything will be OK.

But the fact that they are "in constant pursuit" of happiness, means that they are constantly not happy...over a long period of time. It shows that something is missing in their life, and that's why they are constantly looking for it..to fill the void inside.

If I ever asked a person "What's wrong?"...and they said "I just want to be happy". my first thought would be that they were damaged in some way, and not very complex....because "Lack of happiness" isn't a problem that can be solved.

You are explicitly implying that one lives in an ideal world lacking of challenges.

It's all about turning the tides and challenging yourself to evolve even through struggle.

He who is aware that happiness is out there, will do anything to pursue it instead of letting your dreams and aspirations purloined by a third party.

I woke up in a bed this morning .. had breakfast ..then went and sat in a coffee shop with a friend who bought me a cup of coffee ..while i chatted with him a bit and set here on my laptop.. so i am happy.. if tonight i had to sleep outside with nothing more than a blanket .. and the stuff in a backpack which can happen .. tomorrow i would wake up..and as long as a got some hot coffee ..once i wake up a bit take a good poop.. i can be back to being happy ..

It is really easy to be happy .. how where people ever happy for the hundred thousand years .. before we had all this stuff we now think we need to be happy and comfortable ..

you can have nothing and find happiness.. then you aim at the stuff that just makes life more interesting and fun without threatening long term happiness ..

(meaning avoiding doing thing to be happy now.. that end up adding things to the list of things to be unhappy about in the lng term)
how can people be happy with any stuff if they never sit down and enjoy having it.. if the getting of it is what they think makes them happy.. the having of it usually turns into the fear of losing it ..

Now, here's someone that understands what true happiness, is.

My problem is, I take a good poop and then wake-up, a bit. No real happiness, there, but at least I stay warm on winter mornings.

          Fixed it for you.

That person is "pursuing" happiness, because that think it's something outside themselves, that they can "get".

The people that think happiness is something "out there" are the people that follow gurus, join cults, in a never ending pursuit of something that they cannot have, because it's brain chemistry, more than circumstances.

Happiness (If that's what's important to you) is inside. It's like looking for a conscience...or pursuing "being a good person". You either are...or you aren't.

And I can save everyone some time here. Happiness is from helping others. You can't build happiness, or find it....Just help other people, without the expectation of reward, and you'll be happy.

Ah, the wisdom of old age. You forgot to mention that happiness comes from within. There are no external forces that can bring you true happiness. Not, love - not, money, - not friendship - not, power. Being happy with oneself is the foundation on which to have these things bring extra meaning to your life - but not happiness, because if they all disappear, what are you left with? Nothing, unless you were happy with your life to begin with.

It's OK. I'm a lot older than even you. :-)

So many good advices and tips.
For me I am writing my daily goals/tasks on board, this makes me do the tasks no matter what.
I also put the board in visible place so whatever I do, I always see the board with the tasks and somehow I am completing the tasks easily.
