I recently finished reading 'Deep Work' by Cal Newport. It's a great read and I recommend it to everyone. It made me more aware of the time I waste on stupid stuff and made me think a lot more about concentration and how social media affected my attention span ( f***ed up ).
Basically 2 hours of concentrated work can be more productive than a 8 hour distracted work in which you work while you have 25 tabs open, 10 of them probably being a combination of social media and video entertaining content
What I began doing to kill distractions and has a huge impact on my work and well-being are the following:
1 ) I began to wake up earlier. Usually I got up at 7 pm but now I force myself to get up at 5:30 pm. By doing us I buy myself time for having a quick workout and doing some work when everyone else is sleeping-> less distraction, more focused work
2) Day by day I'm distancing myself from social media. I try to use it more for business purposes nowadays and try to spend maximum 10 days surfing brainlessly. I feel more calm and I seem to concentrate better when I'm not jumping to my phone after every notification
3) I try to give myself strict periods of time to spend working( I read about this in the book). Basically I work from 6-8 pm and from 6-8 am on my online business everyday, in this way forcing productivity. Since I have so little time, thoughts like 'Go on FB for 5 mins for a quick break' don't come to me at all.
I'm curious on how other warriors deal with distractions that can impact your work & business.
