What Is Your PERFECT Day?

I had a mentor a few years ago give me an exercise to do because I felt I needed more focused direction in my life. Here was the exercise, followed by a question:

Write out your PERFECT day, which you would intend to repeat every day. It needs to be written because it allows the brain to feel out the story better. It allows a much stronger connection to the story.

When I ask this question to people close to me, they think for a second and come up with something short like "binge watch netflix and eat junk food". I can tell you that this might sound fun for one day, but do this for a few months or years and you'll be in serious trouble - think: no money, fat and alone.

The perfect day is 24hr long. It should include as much vivid detail as possible, answering these type of questions:

Part A: Write the Story

- what time do you wake up?
- where are you waking up? country? city? town? big house? small cabin? tent?
- how much sleep did you get the night before?
- what kind of bed are you sleeping on? windows open? crisp air?
- first smells and sounds as you wake up?
- who is beside you (if anyone)?
- pets? Kids?
- what's for breakfast? (food and drink)
- gym workout?
- quality time with family? friends?
- what work (paid or volunteer) is done to pass the day
- what's for lunch? (food and drink) where?
- different work in the afternoon? hobbies? recreation?
- what's for dinner? (food and drink) what time? with who? where?
- quality time with friends/family in the evening? doing what?
- bed time? reading? writing? listening?

This is called lifestyle design. Some people let life happen to them and they're ok with that. Others just take things one day at a time and that's ok as well. But...if you're someone who wants more out of life and believes in designing the future, I recommend writing out your day and answering all of those questions above and more if you can.

Part B: The kicker

What are you doing TODAY that moves your closer to achieving that perfect day/lifestyle?

This has stuck with me for the last few years. Everything I do is either taking me closer or moving me away from my perfect day. The decisions I make to pass the time are directly influenced by my desire to create a perfect day for myself. Of course that doesn't mean all work and no play. It's a process and a journey. I ensure to have balance and patience, but I always act with intent.

I'd love to hear from those who have done something like this or put their own twists on it. If you're living your perfect day now, please share what you did to achieve that!

well i got a lot of this in my head as visuals.. and the time waking up ..

When i'm done sleeping of course .
then depending on the weather morning cardio either walking a few miles just after waking up..or some time on an indoor rowing machine . (morning before you eat is the best time to do cardio)

breakfast sweet potato pancakes from sweet potatoes i grow..and egg from either ducks i own or chickens or a combination of both .

then a lot of the rest of the questions depend on the time of the year..even in the tropics ..and whats ready to harvest from my large home garden

tight now i'm in the desert though instead of being near the ocean living in the tropics or the sub tropic like i dealy would want to .. but there is stuff i am working on here .

and actually you are moving sideways in life more than you are moving forward or backward .. you can draw a straight line from New York city to San Francisco .. but even if you get on a jet airplane.. it will probably not take you straight their .. but the most fun route sometime is a road trip ..that can go all over the map .

I'd wake up, fall out of bed, drag a comb across my head, find my way downstairs, drink a cup, look up and notice I'm late, grab my coat and grab my hat, make the bus in seconds flat and find my way upstairs...and have a smoke.

Either that, or feed animals in the zoo, then later a movie too..and then home to listen to some music.

As I was walking down the street one day
A man came up to me and asked me what the time was that was on my watch, yeah

    And I said
Does anybody really know what time it is
Does anybody really care (care about time)
If so I can't imagine why (no, no)
We've all got time enough to cry

    My perfect day....

My eyes open, I spend some time staring at the roof. I'm in no rush as I lay comfortably in my fluffy white sheets.

    This is bliss...

My sheets surround me as if I'm sleeping in the clouds. My wife is sleeping sound on the right of me and the feeling of inner peace saturates my body.

I get out of bed head down to the kitchen and get some coffee and something to eat.

I have a few client calls today and some content to write that when finished would amount to about $500. The content I write is on topics that I like for clients who I love.

This is the life and I'm in no rush.

I have a meeting in Hawai a few weeks later and the trip is taken care of by one of my clients. My wife, son and I will be going.

What else can you ask for. Good clients. Lots of Money and nothing to worry about.

That's sort of what the perfect day or life looks like in my mind right now.

I like it! You covered a lot of different aspects of what should be considered in the perfect day. I'd still try and take it a step farther...do you have a chef cooking your meals? What kind of car are you driving? Do you have a driver? Are you doing anything with friends? Are you living in your perfect city? House? What are you eating throughout the day? Exercising? Charity work? Volunteering? Really open your mind up and ask yourself more questions, let it flow. As I said, you don't need to share it here, but I think it's important to think about every second of the day as much as possible. It helps make me more aware of what I'm doing and how much time I'm wasting each day on useless things that don't get me any closer to that dream...

And now the rhetorical question...what are you doing today and tomorrow to get you closer to living that perfect day? Do you think you'll be living this life you described this year? Next? In 5 years?

Two perfect days in a row - I'm on a roll.

Up early - quick walk - check the WF and then work an hour.

Off to the farm - to spend a beautiful day working with and riding horses, playing with dogs and baby goats, talking to friends there.

I've had times in my life when the work I accomplished made my day perfect - others where things done with family made it perfect. What is perfection changes as my life changes.

Now I do what I love to do - when the weather permits - and do things that need to be done when the weather (rain) isn't conducive to perfect days. Those in between days make the perfect days possible.

Agreed...there have been times I wanted something so bad in my life, and felt it would make me so happy. I had the goal on the wall. I worked hard every day to achieve it.

When the time came that I was actually able to buy it, travel there, drive it, fly it, play it, eat it etc., I was no longer interested in it. My priorities changed. My wants and needs changed.

Many valuable lessons learned on those journeys. I'm sure my perfect day, as I've drawn it out to be at the moment, will change and evolve more along the way.

The key is to not be at the end of my life and still chasing that perfect day. It's to realize that although I'm working toward goals every day, a day that I have good food and clean water, surrounded by the ones I love with a roof over my head is a perfect day.

so in essence .. you have a perfect day planned out.. including work for future goals.. then a few freinds of you or you significant other show up.. and you drop the plans .. run to the store buy steaks .. chicken or whatever food you fancy.. or adult beverage..

and spend the afternoon enjoying yourself with friend having a cook out and the great food to go along with it .. and it no a weekend day or a holiday ..

I have grown a little or more than a lot dismissive of the success /self improvement .. attempt turn life into a constant striving for achievement .. and not really enjoying what you have .. not really enjoying anything once you have achieved it .

sort of always working toward something but only getting to the point of working for the next thing and next thing .. but never stopping to enjoy it.. or as you put it by the time you get it you where a different person and could not really enjoy the stuff once you got it ..

the scary thing about death.. is that it will probably come before you get to where you think you are working tword ..

you can live another 30 40 or 50 years.. and always be working to get somewhere you never get . or you can die tomorrow and all those long term goals will not get achieved by you .

And the great thing about death is that it doesn't matter if you've achieved every goal, and led a great life...or failed at every turn. You'll feel exactly the same thing.

I think "perfect" is an odd word....but a great life? For me, waking up next to my wife, in a home I like, and knowing she's happy... not having to worry much about getting food or paying the bills. And talking to people I enjoy....and not having to talk to people I don't enjoy.

          Not a bad life.

The goal is be at the end of life and look back on dozens of 'perfect' days - and my guess is that not one of the 'perfect days I remember' will have anything to do with working or earning money.... Those might be 'good days' but 'perfect' is more than 'look what i did'....

The easiest way to biuld wealth is to work for some one who is building their dreams or getting rich

It's the vast majority of people who are doing neither you should avoid working for

As far as a perfect day it is 8 am and so far so good and I plan to be watching fireworks on the Vegas strip tonight

Yup, the heat in vegas can take the energy out of the tazmanian devil. There's enough AC cranked there though with doors wide open that you'd think it would cool the entire strip. What has you in Vegas for that length of time? Searching for love outside the Little Vegas Chapel? That sounds like a perfect day!

I am not sure where I want to stay permaneyly and Vegas has100,000 rooms you can rent by the week furnished with kitchen and utilities paid so my account is on an nice and comfy right now

I also don't want a car right now or maybe ever and it is really easy to get around

And this year it is like ten degrees below average so it is only like 104 when normally it would be over 110

Even though I want to live in a tropical environment my journey has brought me to the dessert the last 3 plus years untill a month ago I was in Tucson Arizona ..but was in Vegas before that so came back for a short time

I don't really mind heat Vegas has a wind that is like standing in a blow dryer and Tucson had way too many crystal methodists ..(meth addicts) and other issues .

I am not sure where I am going from here . But I am more afraid of staying here too long . Than taking all the stuff I can fit in 2 suitcases and taking a bus or train to where ever I decide to go next .with no plan on what to do when I get there .

Honestly I have spent to much of my life with days being groundhog days or the same day happening ok very and over .

So the perfect day for me is a day that will be different from yesterday but in a mostly pleasent way . Key word mostly.

Planned to go to fireworks event tonight - but too hot to sit outside when i can relax in A/C and watch on large screen at home.

Yesterday was a bucket list day - rode in a July 4th parade (on the 3rd?) We took 12 horses and spent a good amount of time decorating them. We did an easy drill team move in front the judge's stand. Our group won second place - big trophy..but mainly it was a lot of fun.

It was hot but not unbearable...today felt worse so stayed inside. If I lived in Vegas - I'd probably never leave the house all summer!

AC ic nice but the heat doesn't bother me if I have shade and plenty of water I was out walking a good hour at noon

I sweat less at 110 than I do bundled up when it is 30 freezing well I might sweat just as much but it's called a dry heat for a reason
That is what is making it difficult on where I want to live permanently . I think I might just want to migrate seasonaly move from ideal weather to ideal weather for me .

To me, I think a perfect day should not just revolve around you. It should include something that you did to make the life of another person better. It should be fulfilling and make people admire you. It should be inspiring and make your subject feel like emulating you.

It should be fulfilling and make people admire you.
I agree about doing something fulfilling, but I don't agree with doing something that people admire about me. You should not be living your life on other people's terms and if you're doing something to satisfy them (make them admire you), then you're sacrificing something about yourself...and that opens up a whole other can of worms.

I think TRUE success, and I know many people dislike that word, is living a life completely on my own terms. It's doing what I want, when I want with who I want. I am not doing anything to gain approval from others because at the end of the day, no one really cares what we do (good or bad). It's all old news sooner or later.

Just my opinion, but I'd be surprised if the majority of people NEED to do something every day to make people admire them and feel like emulating them. I think it's a dangerous belief to adopt while attempting to be truly happy.

I think you would be surprised. Look at social media - it is driven by people trying to impress others, connect with or emulate others - with people who feel a need to say 'look at me, listen to me, approve of me'.

That's true....and that's one of the worst consequences of social media. I re-read that line I wrote and I know what I said and what it sounds like, but I remember meaning something different when I wrote it. When I say "people", I don't think I was referring to the billions of users. I believe I was referring to those trying to grow a business.

Most people in this forum are trying to or are running an online business. That's who I was directing the thread to, and I believe I was thinking about people in here more than out there.

And that isn't even the dirty part of much of social media . Many people are exaggerating the joy or happyness to take the perfect photo for Instagram or Facebook ..one second people hate each other next second they put on smile and take a photo to make it look like things are a whole lot better ..

Then people see enough other people daily posting like life is great ..and their life start to feel a lot worse than it is

And instead of seeing through the game they start playing the game and doing the same

Eccept for posting to this forum I stay away from social media

Getting back on the subject of the perfect day . The highly simplified version that most likely will never happen I mean I expect to marry my fiience and live with her .. and we both want a solar lifestyle .and she is compatibly crazy with me .

But the perfect day would be a full day in Wich Everytime I tell her how beutifull she is she doesn't respond by trying to draw my attention to flaws that she sees as flaws but to me they add to her beauty .

Hopefully those days are not far off . I think I have finished pulling out all the crap iny head that would blow it up.

    We are coffee hounds.

A good day starts when there is at least one cup of coffee left in the coffee pot at the office.

A perfect day is when the last cup of coffee is still fresh and hot.

One time I went to the office around 10 am and everyone else goes in at 7am. As soon as I entered the office everyone shouted the coffee machine is broke. Before I took another step I turned around and went to the store for a new machine. Back at the office building I flagged down the porter and gave her $20 to deliver the machine to the office. Did not go back to the office for a few days. A happy office staff makes for a happy day in my part of the woods.

Now Jeffy is someone I would listen to when it comes to building a business with employees . "Boss can you go home it is so much easier to get work done when you are not here "

Just kidding perfect business forget about the perfect day

Going back to palm trees last post today more than any time in the past once a person figures out the lifestyle they want they can focus on using the internet to create the income to support that lifestyle

But many are convinced they have too first get rich then figure out the lifestyle ...

The cool part about the first way is if you build the business in and around the lifestyle you want and learn the tax code so much can be written off ..

Nailed it, my friend. My businesses fuel my real estate passion, which coincidentally has some of the best tax code benefits available!

A vast majority of people with million dollar plus net worth have a good chunk of that invested in some type of real estate.

And there is a lot more options than just rental real estate . But a lot of people have gotten out of lease rental and into short term rental throu air bnb .

You probably know more about that than me

My perfect day is a day of travel. Wake up at the hotel to the sea, go to breakfast and go to the sea.

True, my perfect day is waking up in a 5 star hotel, overlooking palm tree's swaying in the warm tropical climate, overlooking the ocean.

Then going downstairs for a Buffet breakfast, overlooking an equally lavish scene.

Then spending the day visiting a theme park.

Obviously take a 5 star plane flight, and rent a nice car.

This may also involve bringing up my Laptop and boasting a bit, while sipping a cocktail while viewing palm tree's/ocean, but l will probably be too tired for that?

I have experienced the above, on holidays to the Gold Coast in the past, but that was spending my last cent and coming home to a life style that didn't support that lifestyle.

But having a lifestyle like that every day if you wish, knowing that the only things you need is a Wi Fi and Laptop is real freedom, or it makes it a more perfect day.

Quite ironically it is all of the failure, adversity and struggles that you go through to reach this perfect day or perfect life, that forms the backbone of the perfect day. Or being proud of yourself, that you worked hard and didn't give up...

Shane somehow when you write out that perfect day ..it never feels like you are actually saying what you really want .

In many tropical locations you can rent a nice house for a month or two firwhat it would cost to stay in a five star hotel or resort a few days .

Have a maid a talented chef for that month less than what people spend on take out in a week . If you are willing to go just outside tourist areas .

It has been a few years since I looked at it but Central and South America has these chains of resorts that you can buy six months or a year of high end resort living and move between them .

Now see I eventually want to buy 4to five Acer's or a bit more than two hectars in a tropical country build a small house that doesnt require much cooling . And have a Forrest garden that can provide most of my food all year round and a small fish pond with ducks . Sometime I throw a fake waterfall into the vision .

But eating that for some reason I came out to the desert the last few years haha

The biggest expense in my dream though is the wall I'll need to build around the house and the garden even if I set up in Florida will still need a wall I'd be petrified of finding allegators in my fish pond

You're right! It would be a great day. I would just relax and enjoy the views of the ocean.

The sixth day of the week because the Lord wants you to sit back and work on your enlightenment.

The 6th day didn't help me manifest anything so far but I feel this energy preoccupying my senses. Music sounds different now and I feel like floating an inch off the ground. Maybe I'm living in the present? Yes Lord, I'm living it now.
