Work hard? If you really want to be motivated, you need to have the something that push you, most successful people do it out of love or fear, you can either be working hard because you want to change your family life or impress your crush or it can either be because you do not want to be broke and hungry anymore.

For me , i listen to grant cardone motivation video where he emphasise there are only two type of people in this world which are the people that get what they want and the life they want and everybody else.(People that don't)

Which one are you going to be?

From what I've learned and tested myself, the most powerful way is to use both motivations.

First is the love of obtaining what you wish to have. Think and feel how awesome your life will be, and how great you are going to feel in your own skin.

And secondly, make living the way you life painful. Think about all the things you are missing out if you don't do nothing, and how bad you feel without progress.

Love for what you want + hate for your current situation = Enough emotional energy to lose nights working towards your dream.

I personally think motivation often doesn't work because I get demotivated quickly.
However, if i split tasks into very detailed one and list them on excel sheet, it quickly gets things done.
    For example.
    To do list:
    1. Post on forum/Q&A to promote my products. <-- BAD to do list.

You need to breakdown to something like this (at least)
    1. Post on Warrior forum
    2. Post on quora

If you have any integrity at all, obligations to others works.

I've found that soul crushing overhead and payroll works as well.

what would you use today.. with the number of options available that are low overhead and few to no employees . or no full time all year employees.. busier time you hire people on for a few months .

Obligate yourself to someone. If it's a customer, promise delivery by a specific date.

The one thing I used to do that guaranteed I'd get the job done was hire an assistant. It's impossible to stand them up. It's difficult to not work hard when you have someone with you to impress.

And "Overhead" can also be personal expenses.

And I have to say this...
"Motivate yourself to work hard"? That means that you don't want to work hard. What you are doing (work) is less important to you than goofing off.

Want to be truly motivated? Work a shit job for a couple of weeks. Something you detest. Something really physically demanding.

        That should motivate you.

if someone has a choice.. this is not all that motivateing .. playing at having to do hard work.. it is much different is someone has no choice but to do that kind of work ..

if someone wants to simulate the hardest part of having a job for most people .. if a person can do their work from a laptop and wi fi .. and really needs to motivate themselves to work .. sense that is not hard work ..

set their alarm for the time people have to get up to go to a job.. then do the morning routine and dress like they are going to a job.. then commute at least 30 minutes or more through the high traffic time of the day.. to a coffee shop like star buck that allows you to sit there all day if you buy a cup of coffee now and again during the day .. and work at least four hours .. take a break and get real lunch .. then go to another coffee shop and work a few more hours .. until everyone else is getting out of work and commute back through traffic.

now the stripped down version if you can do your work on a laptop with a wi fi.. is if you are having trouble getting work done.. go somewhere like a coffee shop and stay until you get work done .. if working at home .. provides to much distraction at the time

Abject poverty, and a career selling magazines on a street corner is all of the motivation l need.

Video's typically want you to buy their s**t, or generic it so much it is useless information.

Hard work, critical thinking, and being very stubborn unearths truths hidden from most, and that is all you need to succeed.

i have to laugh .. sorry .. but are you breaking bricks with a hammer.. spending the day out in a field picking rice or cotton, or tobacco.. on a fishing boat pulling up fishing pots ..

or i can list a long list of actually hard work i use to do .. from scrapping a few inches of burnt on clam off the side of a 500 gallon or 1000 gallon kettle.. to getting covered in soil in a soil blending plant .. to well.. stuff that was actually hard .. and left me with long term physically wear an tear injuries .

so first step.. is stop lying and trying to convince yourself the work your doing can be classified as hard ..it may be mentally difficult . and require an amount of discipline . to do..

yea i know .. how can you motivate yourself.. if the work you are putting of isn't really that hard.. and thee real difficulty and suffering you do to try an prove yourself worthy of what ever reward comes from it.. is the difficutly and suffering you add to what think you need to do before doing it .. and extra work for show .. you add while you are doing it .

I think what makes me work hard is I am not only thinking about myself but the people around me. My basic question for you is, " For whom or for what are you waking up?" The answer to that question will determine your motivation to work extra hard. Your answer will serve as your inspiration to push yourself further.

I don't think there are any "tricks" or "tools" for getting motivated and defeating procrastination. It's 100% mental. If you're not motivated to do something, then you're not disgusted enough with your current situation.

You need to want the change bad enough. I work hard because of my intense desire to change/improve the person I am now. I imagine my life a year from now if I don't do anything different vs what it would look like if I put in the work today and tomorrow and the next day.

I don't call it motivation, though. I think it's simply a strong desire to change. Think about everyone else working harder than you right now while you read this post. Stop looking for excuses like "I'm not motivated to work". Think about everyone who is desperate to have the resources and opportunities you have to live a wonderful life, and take advantage of what you have.

Seeking motivation can cost you thousands of dollars in the billion dollar personal development industry.

the fun part of this discussion is how it misses the point..

anyway many people work very hard and stay poor or barely get out of poverty.. if working hard was the real ingredient ..so many more would be doing better ..or be considered rich.

oh well it is pointless.. i remember a story from jeff bezoz after starting mazon.. as he was on his hands and knees with everyone working for him packing books in boxes.. he had an idea.. he should invest in knee pads ..the person he said it to had a better idea.. that they needed packing tables .

He got the packing table and productivity went up 300 percent .. now even though the people he was paying to pack boxes .. where doing basically 3 times more work.. they probably got no increase in pay . now if they owned part of the company early on ..maybe they di.. but .. Jeff captured mostly all that value ..

so hima nad his ex wife are now two of the richest people on the planet .. because he figured out how to make choice andd invest where he and those who worked for him got more done with the same or even less amount of hard work ..

but i gues the point will get miss .. the fetish for hard work is strong ..

      Maybe.

The people that work hard generally work in a job that requires that they work hard.

Every time I read a question about motivation, it's from someone that doesn't have to work hard to survive.
For example, if you are in internet marketing, how the heck could you work hard if you wanted to?

Even when I was selling in people's homes, how could I work hard? I was just talking to people. Most people in regular jobs would call it goofing off.

By the way, asking us how to get motivated is an odd question to me. If you aren't motivated, why would you want to be?

For example, if you suffer from ED, maybe you want viagra, because you still want sex.
But if someone were disinterested in sex, would they really want a pill that made them interested in sex?

If I don't like butterscotch pudding, would I want to find a way to like it? No. I'd simply not like it.

So the idea of wanting to be motivated, when you are not motivated, seems strange to me.

True, l recently watched a video series on stock trading, and the guy presenting it, just had a can of red bull on standby, motivated him no end,...probably too much at times, lol.

How in the world would you motivate yourself to work hard...if you are not naturally a hard worker?

Other than a threat of death (and proof that it's real), I can't think of anything that would change your very nature.

If you are used to hard work, you don't need motivation, you just need to change direction a little. Far easier. If you are not used to hard work at all, get a demanding job and stay for 6 months. The habit will be part of you, and you can now devote your daily hard work to something more profitable. But at the beginning? You'll need a boss and work hour to just get you up in the morning.

i understand what you are saying..as robots and computers, and AI replace more and more need for human "hard work.. " those who will win will be the ones who"work hard" developing the skills to use the machine/computers/ai in a productive capacity ..and then work hard developing the skills to market and sell what they produce to customers..

people who buy the stuff will only give to Sh#$@ and A F*&* how much hard work was done.. depending on the price and what was done in front of their eyes .

the concert pianist puts in hard work .. practicing a song for hundreds of hours maybe even a thousand hours.. so he or she looks to do it effortlessly in a concert hall with five hundred or a thousand people who has spend a few hundred buck to here her play for a few hours

that is the kind of hard work that leads to success..

now one of the things i have learned in the last week ..is many entrepreneurs fail and work a lot harder while they are crashing and burning.. because they are using the wrong business model for their skill and finance level . so basically just trying things that can't be done from where they are

no amount of hard work will get someone past the point in business where they need to hire and pay others ..who either know what needs to be done or need to be trained ..

so to add to something you said .. claude .. someone not only needs to get a job that requires hard work..to see what it is really like..but also work hard enough where the get put in charge with managing and training others ..and working in a team .. rather than reading books on leadership and teamwork ..

i'm not against working hard.. i watched an interview that i can't track down right now because i only remember the point i am going to list here ..

the guy being interviewed was a real estate guy worth 250 million dollars who started out with nothing ..

in the 80's and 90's i think he was in florida .. he would buy run down signle family houses or duplexes for $20,000-$30,000.. get in there himself (after kicking out the squatter) and fixed them up ,painted them do all he could .. and then rent them out for $800-$900 a month .. and go on to the next rehab house he bought .

so he increased the value of the house and turned it into cash flow of $800-$1800 a month.

a majority of people .. do not know how to capture much of the value of the work they do
and they have no way to get paid multiple times for work they have already done .

so there is the answer to the original question of the thread ..

do work that increases the value of an asset or produce cash flow ..and you will most likely be motivated ..

Have you ever looked much into Tony Robbins or NLP.

Learn how to really drive home the point of what will happen if you keep procrastinating. How will your life look if you keep going down that route.

There's so much to NLP but it really works.

When it comes to training the mind, I'd advise that you avoid Tony Robbins.

He references only the fundamentals of NLP techniques, as a segue into a tirade which shows mental weakness.

Having to mention male appendage as an analogy merely reveals The Wolf of Wrong Street where the lower mind dwells.

To avoid these types of unique egoic personal deviations, NLP is best studied by way of text published closer to its conception in the 1970s.

I know someone has already mentioned this but it definitely isn't about motivation. Its 100% discipline. No one is motivated all the time so you need discipline to step in and take over for when motivation disappears..the more discipline you cultivate the easier it becomes. Instead of motivation, you're getting things done on autopilot.

Another important thing to think about is; what is your why? Sometimes your situation isn't enough to make you want to change things. As humans we can adapt to situations very easily. Having a rock solid "why" might be the little extra push you need. For example, my "why" is my parents. I want to earn extra income to give them a great life of retirement they deserve. The money I am seeking isn't necessarily to better my life, but to better theirs.

Motivational books and motivation is part of it. Motivational tools helps you when you don't feel like doing stuff. It also shows you how to highly successful deal with the same issues you are dealing with.

Also you have to have daily goals.....that way you know what you should do on a daily basis rather then sitting and thinking what actions you should take.

Wouldn't that, by the claim in the title, conclude that you don't want 'it' enough?

That would surely be the claim by someone who established that initial proposition.

The realistic answer is perhaps related to the fact that people throw around the word 'it', like they do the term 'success'. Both hold absolutely no universal meaning to be translatable.

I think for that question to hold any worth whatsoever, we'd need to figure out what that 'it' actually is, since without that defined, you'll be pulled back into your useless state out of consequence through of lack of handhold upon this 'it'.

It might be all too easy for 'it' to be attained because sights are set too high, promoting the need for it to be broken down.

One thing you can try to do is make a game out of it. A wise man once told me that most people are drawn in by either being excited, entertained or engaged. Each comes with pros and cons that I'll get into with a post to this forum category. I personally feel that out of all three of these the best one is engagement. It means you're connected to your work, believe in your ability to execute it and feel really good about what the end result will be in the short term and long term.

People around me? Nope, l could be thinking about how many are losing their shirts on this company, and how many newbies are losing the lot, but l am more interesting in defining distinctions that most miss, and making as much as l can lay my hands on.

Who am l getting up for, myself, what motivates me to spring out of bed, l'd rather not say, but let's just say, it would get messy if l didn't.

Working hard is subjective, as Claude has said, how can l work hard on the stockmarket online???

I study a good stock, for 15 minutes, determine subtle irregularities to stay or get out, then do so depending on open bell trends.

Or when it stabilizes l can set alerts and go and watch Lost in Space, and take a peek occasionally or rely on the alerts for the next few hours.

Not exactly digging a ditch, but l have read several books and learning through a few courses online, as well as do a Micro Business Course cert 3, and some of that was hard work.

There are times when you cannot work hard, and have to wait out the storm, and shore up the sails; but that is ok, (well, it isn't but in the end) since greatness is borne out of adversity and hardship.

Yeah, l know some are in their 20's and make a s....load out of thin air, and most hit their heads against this brick wall called life, and seem to get no where,....seem!

Life or the planets can put you through great hardship for months on end, with no end in sight, but that is our perspective not the universes, the universe has its own clock, as annoying and slow as that is.

But there are times when all good is taken away and hard work will help but not fix it, then all we can do is occupy ourselves with other pursuits to kill time, so time does not befuddle us.

Some may look a gift horse in the mouth and not realize that the stable is small.

The rich are not angry, they have just been through a lot more hardship than most, or the universe does not cough up for the flimsy persona, as such tends to self implode, or if Edison caved in, someone else would have developed the light bulb.

Sometimes hard work will not work, and being the personality of a dog that refuses to un-clench its jaw as being the only option.

The best way to motivate yourself to work hard is to set goals. But you need to ensure that the goals are realistic and attainable. The problem with most people is that they set unrealistic goals. When they work hard to achieve them and fail, they give up. Nothing on this earth demotivates like failing to achieve your stated goal. I wish you well my brother.

I'm going to chime in something here that may not be received well, but one of my biggest motivators for working hard is shame. I believe in the virtues of an honor/shame culture compared to a fear/guilt culture. For me, working hard is a virtue and an honorable thing to do, and when I don't work hard enough to my own standard for that I feel shame, which motivates me to do better/do more/try harder/not give up/fight to the death, whatever you want to call it.

Whenever I need inspiration, I read "The Warrior Ethos" by Steven Pressfield. It's a short book, maybe an hour long read, and that's all the motivation that I need. My favorite quote from the book is attributed to Alexander the Great when his war-weary army was ready to give up and return home from their campaign. Instead of using his authority to promote fear and discourage deserters within his army, he inspired them to finish what they started and had already worked so hard for.

"Whom among you have bled more than I...these scars on my body were gotten for you, my brothers".

I get this philosophy as I believe I practice part of this myself to some degree. A personal challenge I have with this work ethic though, is that I can get caught up and overworked. I don't necessarily get burnt out, but other areas of my life suffer due to this imbalance: sleep, fitness, marriage, friendships, networking, and general frustration for not accomplishing more with all the work and sacrifices I'm making.

So I'm curious how you achieve a work-life balance without feeling shame or guilt when you're not working?

That's definitely one of the downsides with this type of work ethic and I'm experiencing a similar situation to that as well. For me personally, I don't have a full and satisfying balance at the current moment. When I'm not working however, I focus almost exclusively on my marriage and home life and leave my job at the door for the most part. In my current work situation, there is always so much left unfinished and so much more to do, too much than can be reasonably expected for one person to accomplish and always another problem around the corner. I work in an environment where every problem that is solved creates two more. At this point, I just do the best that I can and leave it at that because I know that there's only so much I can do. I do feel that shame while I'm there every day though, because I want to be able to do more, and that does help me keep plugging away to an extent. My current situation is unsustainable though and I will need to move on soon.

Between the last to posts of your. Is the shame you are feeling comming because your work never feels finished . Or you feel rushed by the constant flow of problems and feel most of the time every solution might be good enough to make others happy .

But if you just had more time there are many times those in charge might hold you back from doing things to your standard instead of just good enough

But I am making a huge jump in the way I am reading what you wrote

That's a good question Odahh, I would have to agree with you on all 3 of your points as they all contribute in their own way. There's always a rush, the workflow is inconsistent and constantly shifting, and management sends mixed signals about every issue that arises. They're all contributing, but I think that the biggest source of the shameful feeling resides within me, that if I only worked harder/longer/more efficiently than I would be able to accomplish all of it. It's a delusion in this situation though and I fall into the mind trap on the regular.

Unfortunately I don't do anything consistently of that nature. i do have some hobbies that I partake in like target shooting, weight lifting etc, but my main hobby is really reading and researching things like the stock market and internet marketing, that's why I've been spending so much time on this forum. I'd like to learn how to make an income the way that you guys do. I'm currently working with a reputable guy on the forum to create a funnel for my first affiliate venture, and I'll probably be spending some time on that for a while. Eventually I'd like to be able to launch an informational MMO subscription site that has it's own affiliate program, but that will take some more time.

Motivation is directly proportionate to your need. Need can be specified with Goals. And goals are personified from knowing yourself.
I know myself and I know what I want in life. Hence my goals are aimed at doing what I like. This makes hard work look like tasks I love.
As for the tedious part of my plans to reach my goals, I put them on deadlines. Deadlines work for me like magic as I am able to anything done.
Another thing that works for me is to declare my plans and goals. Once I have shared them with others I kind of make it a composition and compulsions always work wonders to get things done.

    Easy peasy.

Start a mini-habit. Do it as often as you want....but stay on task.
30 seconds is ideal. Start to end.

So do it now......do it later....do it again. Your habit will be formed by tonight.
    Do it again tomorrow.
