How to become the smartest person in the room

Before we discuss my theory on "how" let's examine a more important word: "Why?"

Why would you want to become the smartest person in the room?

Room also could be a metaphor for "Industry" or "Company" or "Profession".

Not literally a "Room full of people".

Why?

Who knows? Mainly it's based on the individual.

And what the individual finds important and what he hopes to achieve for his life.

If it were accomplished, then this person would be able to have immense power, influence and gratification that comes from the aforementioned.

So long as he doesn't lose touch or connection with what makes him feel his best and to feel balanced and whole, that is.

Being smart is a significance thing, for some people, so naturally it meets a basic human need.

More important than that though, being a captain or leader of your industry, niche or "thing", would provide you with purpose and responsibility, which some of us crave.

So really it boils down to personal preference.

If the aim of life is to be balanced and achieve consistent happiness than perhaps this is a vehicle for some to strive for because it is their simple, personal preference, to challenge themselves and to build.

Now let's talk about how:

Many I'm sure would answer this question in all sorts of ways or angles.

I'll keep my theory simple, because I believe the answer is simple and really boils down to one thing which everything else stems from.

And that one word would be: Motivation.

Let me explain.

"Smarts" are no good with an unmotivated individual.

There are plenty of "lazy geniuses" floating around out there who do nothing with their comprehension or learning abilities to advance our species (if that's the aim of a genius other than personal power?).

But the one's who are naturally a bit slower or duller, who happen to want more, aim high and continuously motivate themselves to do so -- they became the smartest and most capable people in the room.

Why? Because they are constantly trying to grow, and therefore do.

They make more money, achieve more spiritual enlightenment, gain more and higher purpose, influence and help a lot more people to grow in the process.

People who have naturally gifted intelligence capabilities will not make it as far as a non-naturally gifted intellectual person who is highly motivated despite what happens throughout his life.

If you take a person who is naturally curious, asks a lot of questions, and enjoys growing and also loves what he does, than motivation is not even a chore, it's a way of life.

For those people, we see them as smart and motivated.

We often confuse talent with motivation and the two are not the same.

Talent has to do with focus & effort and bodily given gifts.

However Motivation is purely one's skill to not give up, to not get permanetly emotionally affected by failure, and to simply get up and keep trying when no one else will or would ever want too.

Motivation added to [anyone's] character, can take an average person and make him far above average in almost every way if he can keep it up.

So in conclusion: The smartest person in the "room" i.e. "company/niche/group/industry/planet/solar system" would be one that embodies the idea of a highly motivated individual who will do anything to reach his goal, and when I say anything I mean literally just about anything so long as it doesn't conflict with his morals or values, assuming he has those.

Cheers, and see you on the next one.

Justin

    That's the takeaway for me.

    Hard work trumps talent. Always.

Really enjoying your motivational writings. Than you Justin.

Motivation and determination can be like drugs for some people who have that inner drive, once they achieve one goal it is on to the next. What I have personally learned is that if you surround yourself with the smart motivated people and listen a little bit more than you talk you will absorb a lot of knowledge.

i don't need to be the smartest person in the room.. i am highly selfish though .. and usually by the way people are talking and the words they use.. i can usually tell weather or not there is an interesting conversation .. or something for me to learn from them.. before i get into the conversation ..

but law of attraction wise .. there is usually something i am already listening for .. even before i get close to the groups or walk into the room

the way to be the smartest person in the room is to make other people feel smart and like you have something to learn from them ..

So true and well said. I know so many highly intelligent people with more knowledge and book smart that I could ever hope for but they are so darn lazy and unmotivated to do anything with their gift of intelligence. You don't need to be the smartest person in the room, but the hardest worker in the room.

I agree with you there. If I find myself in the position that I actually am the smartest person in the room, I'll find another room to be in. I'd rather keep learning from people that are smarter than me than start to stagnate.

I agree, whenever I think I have something all figured out is when I find out that there's way more to it than I thought in the first place. I'm in that category right now, still trying to figure out just how much more I have to figure out!

They are NOT lazy or unmotivated, not at all. Intelligence is sometimes a gift of heredity, but often it is EARNED by working hard. So, this premise; lazy and unmotivated just isn't true.

But that doesn't matter. I love smarter than me people, and that is a very large group.

And over the decades these very smart people have made me small fortunes over and over again. BECAUSE...

      I

      A) Acknowledge and praise their intelligence
      B) Have an inspirational AH HA moment in their presence
      C) Suggest there is MONEY to be made from their knowledge
      D) Insure they have very little to do to make it
      E) Help them share with the marketplace and

      We both PROFIT from it.

Often smart people don't KNOW about the market of information and experience and how it only takes a small group of people who are INTERESTED enough to spend some dough on a subject...to cash in on it.

As smart as the person might be, chances are they don't anything about marketing, or how to go about it. And I'm just dumb enough to explain it to them, in my best Denzel voice, like they were six year olds.

And many times, the smart person reaches in his wallet and shows me the money.

I love rooms full of smart people, it is where dummies can really prosper.

    What Is Motivation?

First, let's take a look at what motivation is, exactly.

In everyday usage, the term motivation is frequently used to describe why a person does something. You can define it as a process that helps drive goal-oriented behaviors.

Even in a college classroom, who are you going to make friends with?

It's not those who have similar personalities and interests. It's the people you literally sit next to.

I agree with you that if you are motivated, you can achieve almost anything you want. I have read your post (theory) it holds, only that you forgot to include the aspect of luck somewhere. I have seen plenty of people who are highly motivated, but they don't achieve much. The reason being they are always unlucky. What is your opinion on this?

Luck is a science, that is my opinion.

Most define luck as something happening that is improbable, when really cause and effect controls probability entirely.

If you need to meet a key connection or JV partner to promote your product so that you can be successful, it's not luck that will get you into his good graces. It's studying who he is, what makes him tick, how he runs and operates his current business, what he looks for, what he avoids, and what he's likely to work with or turn down.

Those are all elements that can easily be discovered and utilized to get a "lucky" partnership and six-figure launch, as a result.

Motivation + Scientific reasoning > Luck (coincidence).

Read the book and dilute your vocabulary. With motivation you can achieve a lot. The main thing with a defeat is not to stop, but to get up and move on.

Don't know what book you are referring to, this is where a quote or partial quote of who you are responding to comes in handy. I see you have become very active so, it would behoove you to learn how to use the quote or mulit-quote feature.

Anyhow, we see too many people get up and move on, in the same direction, doing the same thing.

I might suggest a pause, sure, get up but LEARN from whatever it was that caused or created the defeat, because chances are, it may defeat you again.

I don't think anyone needs to dilute their vocabulary except for beginning copywriters who have read somewhere they need to dumb down things for the masses.

I'm generally not a fan of making assumptions either as I find that many times I'm wrong, but I am hoping that in this case I'm right lol. From my own experience, the expansion of my vocabulary is critical in these types of situations and that's a big reason that I'm being active on the forum. When I first got here, I didn't understand 99% of what was being talked about but I can comprehend quite a bit more today.

I am a fan of splitting hairs and knowing what the word we use mean .

The it is about learning through the way people talk what they are really trying to say .

People's words and how the use them tend to expose a large range of their beliefs and you can adapt the words you use to explore those beliefs .

Only a few years ago I was introverted and really didn't like talking to people then I learned how to talk their beliefs and post my differing beliefs without offending them .

I really like your response here and you make a really great and valid point. I also used to be much more introverted until I learned how to do the same thing, present opposing viewpoints in a way that isn't offensive to the receiver. I am very similar in the aspect that I tend to treat people the way that they prefer to be treated as well. Sometimes it's a conscious decision but usually it just happens that way. Thanks for your response, it's helping me think about how I should practice paying closer, conscious attention to this process.
