Kudos to those of you who recognized the quotation. A similar
example is this from "The Shawshank Redemption."

Enjoy.

Hi Gordon: Good question. : )

In my personal Life, I found this quotation very helpful and empowering. "Every failure, every adversity, and every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit." (Thanks to Copywriter Gary Bencivenga for introducing me to that one.)

Basically it made me realize how much I've learned, evolved, and progressed while dealing with my mental illness.

Kudos to YOU, if you have actually done anything with the lesson of the story, but as far as having read something, or any number of books...is no big deal, is it? How have you applied the "persistence", not backing down analogy to your business?
Well I've spent a long time (actually over a year) working on my current Project/Venture. Like the examples I provided -- I've made the decision to do whatever it takes to reach my goal.

maybe how the story of the little black girl with the options of demand money owed her mom while risking geting beaten with a belt by the white man.. or if she failed to get the money the probable beating from her moma

is not a story one should happily refer to ..

and i really don't see the connection between the strory and the clip from the movie

as the story in the book was about a little girl faced with most likely getting a beating

while the clip in the movie was about someone with knowlege of ho wealthy people legally avoid paying taxes.. seeing an oppurtunity to slightly improve a bad situation sharing that information..with someone a bit more powerful..but not rich

but i guess for a motivational story to be motivational.. you have to make up or leave out the fact or key information

like the chinneese bamboo tree story.. about a type of bamboo that doesnt exists ..but it's a great sounding story

I agree to an extent. However the purpose of Napoleon Hill providing that example was simply to illustrate that when a Person gives it their all many -- if not most of the time -- they succeed and achieve their goal(s).

Again, it was simply to communicate that when you do whatever it takes (like Andy from the movie) very often you succeed.

That's my 2C for the day anyway.

ahh different perspectives here.. asd i have an open stance against the fetish in the motivation real.. for the need for pain suffering and discomfort..

and a story about a little girl forced into a situation.. being used as a pawn with it considered just fine for one of two adults to beat her in the case of failure ..

either ask the white guy for the money untill he gives it to you or beats you.. or moma will beat you if you come back without the money ..

and the man understood the situation.. which is why he relented and paid up .

but you can view such a terrible story in what ever positive light you want .

Interesting. Haven't heard that perspective before. Is it just your opinion, or are there other Websites (etc.) online that have the same opinion?

so where to you think the girl really got the motivation.. to stick around until she got the 50 cents her momma told her to get from the man who owed it ..

girl was most likely facing a beating either way ..either from the man or from her momma if she didn't get the 50 cents

most of the opinions on this story leave out the probability that the girl would get beat if she didn't come back with the 50 cents

Supposing that's true, surely that makes her "stance" even more impressive? Basically, she had to get that 50c no matter what.

no the conditions where she get the 50 cent or get a beating ..

considering the success was the the man didn't beat her when he was about to ..and instead paid up.. to the amazement of the person writing or who told the story to hill

Interesting. Personally the lesson I got from the "Think And Grow Rich" quotation. is that when a Person is determined enough, they will reach their goal(s)

                  What are your thoughts?

on that we agree ..but how one achieves that determination..and weather it is repeatable is important..

but remember the 50 cent wasn't her goal it was the task someone else gave to her .

and many goals people claim to be working on..are not really their goals they are really tasks the have got from others ..

i'll borrow this concept from grant cardone.. to explain that.. he says.. and number goal that end with 0 or 00 or 000 is not a goal the person set on their own ..

considering i know several people no in their thirties 40 or 50's that where beaten regularly by parents or others as children..and are messed up as a result ..or never recovered.. though what the did do was put them selves together long enough.. to never beat their own kids then once their kids where good on the way to leading productive lives.. they got away from their kids and fell apart again..or roobbed a bank and went toprison.. something like that ..

Seems kind of irrelevant to me.

that is fine you don't need to ..do you see the relevance of the man being and older white male..thinking he had the right to beat a little black girl instead of paying her the small amount of money owed her moma ..

This movie is of course cool. But there are moments that are not very clear to me. I do not remember this tsytatu. But after reading your comments, something similar happened.

Thanks Max. A similar example from the movie is this scene.
