Specifically How To Win Friends and Influence People? What are your key takeaways from the book? I've heard it's a good read, but I need insights from everyone else. Thanks!

I've got it on my Kindle, it's a great book. You can get lots of insights from the Amazon reviews, rather than wait for replies here.

    I'd recommend it.

I've read it and I actually use a lot of its advice for networking. My main takeaways are:

    1. Become interested in people and what makes them tick.
    2. Learn how to be a good conversationalist.
    3. Don't take things personally when someone is rude, they are probably just having a bad day

I'd say read it (and other similar books - Richard Wiseman is always a good read) every few years ...

You'll find suggestions that resonate with you today, and some that don't.

In a year or two, when you re-read it, different points will resonate.

Different times of our lives need different guides and pushes ....

I've read it several times over the decades. A great book on how to get along with people, and how they think.

It's one of the ten most important books I've ever read. A Classic.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

I've read this one a couple of times, despite that I had some trouble engaging with it maybe because of the title. It has a series of short stories about how to put other peoples needs first in order to help them see your point of view.

I think this book is pretty outdated. But I read it many times. Now there are more advanced books

      I want to address that.

Human nature doesn't change over time. This is a book about human nature. The content is evergreen.

There are more advanced books, but this book is accessible to the masses, and will be easily understood.

I always carry a small notebook, two pens to capture any fleeting ideas that might come my way. Also, inside the notebook is a simple booklet, 16 pages, made from a single 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper.

Here is a page by page overview.

    Front Cover...what it is about.
    Pg. 2-Basics. Preoccupation. Stimulus Response.
    Pg."3- PreSuasion by Robert Cialdini
Pg. 4- INFLUENCE also by Cialdini
Pg. 5- AIDCAS formula. Attention, interest, desire, conclusion, action, satisfaction.
Pg. 6-Wheeler Points from Elmer Wheeler, "Don't sell the steak, sell the sizzle."
Pg. 7- Roy Garn's Fatal Four from his book, MAGIC POWER OF EMOTIONAL APPEAL.
Pg.-8 Blair Warren. One sentence persuasion.
Pg- 9 Blair Warren. Forbidden Keys.
    Pg.- 10 Dale Carnegie:
Be Hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise.
    Don't criticize, condemn or complain.
    Honest and sincere appreciation.
    Arouse an eager want.
    Be a good listener.
    Walk in their shoes.
    Appeal to nobler notions.
    Help them save face.
    Admit your mistakes first.

Those are the key points from HOW TO WIN FRIENDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE, and I regard them important enough to carry with me everywhere I go.

Pg.- 11 Magic Chant of Persuasion
    Pg.- 12 The Intersection.
Pg. - 13 Total Conscious Awareness
Pg.- 14 Help them cross the bridge
    Pg.- 15 Summary
    Pg.-16 Back cover...Other Pocket Pros.

The book is certainly NOT outdated, although in this time of uncivil behavior and name calling from POTUS on down, it may seem as if civility is an outdated concept. But for a business person in the early stages, it is the right way to build a business, unless your business is one of loud mouth yelling and instigating as maybe a Radio/TV or media pundit (aka attention whores) does to find his or her mindless audience.

Best insight I offer is, Dale died in 1955 and today, 64 years later, his ideas are taught around the world at Dale Carnegie Centers, attended by thousands and doing millions in business...hardly an outdated concept.

It's really a good book. All of these techniques already work today. After I've read the book, I feel manipulated my whole life.
