Is Imagination More Powerful Than Logic?

Hi,
Imagination has played perhaps the major part in all religious and cultural movements throughout the ages and has consequently effectively produced what we know as modern society.
But the applied forms of logic, namely science and technology, have also produced that same modern society.
What I'm wondering is which, if either, will have the more profound effect on the world of generations to come.
It seemed that the scientific age was unstoppable with the moon landings but then space exploration went into decline, but so did most Western religions.
And science/technology at the moment is sending the planet to an early grave via global warming and we were on the brink of nuclear war in the early 60s, so logic has produced many monsters. But so has imagination with the appalling wars and internal exterminations initiated by the egos of dictators that have destroyed countless millions of people during the last century alone.
Perhaps both imagination and logic have become too powerful for the good of mankind?

Personally, I believe that science wouldn't exist without imagination and I don't necessarily equate logic with science, but has logic/science now become more powerful than the collective imagination of mankind which created it?
Or maybe Warriors think that logic/science was created purely out of necessity and that imagination is merely a weapon in its armory?

And what is the balance between logic and imagination in our personal lives? I believe in this case that imagination is vastly more important than pure logic although we are now so heavily dependent on science that TV and computer games are sapping the power of our imagination which I think is both a bad thing and a sad thing!

Imagination started the trip to the moon.

Logic and science made it technically possible.

Hard work and dedicated people brought it to fruition.

Forgive me as it may seem corny, but "do you know the greatest nation on earth? Imagination."

      Hi,
Here's a quote from Albert Einstein that I've just come across

"Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."

Imagination is the key to success. With out it no one could accomplish what they set out to do. It takes a great imagination to dream, and a dream to have a goal and a goal to motivate and the motivation to succeed!

    It all starts with imagination

Great food here, I honestly do believe that imagination is the foundation of logic. Logic is based on facts, proven things that were researched. But without imagination, who would have thought enough to make an idea logical?

I'd have to say Imagination is the more powerful of the two in the end, just look at the Law of Attraction

I agree with you MJ. I think both of them need to work together to create something into reality. Without imagination fly like a bird, there will be no airplane right now. Vice versa, without any logical idea of airplane, then fly like a bird will be just imagination that never come true.

I think imagination is MUCH more Powerful than Logic.

    One quick example....

Look at the "newest" accepted religion of "Scientology".
This religion is pure imagination and defies logic, despite
the title of "Scientology". Yet it draws in actors, actresses,
entrepreneurs, doctors, lawyers and people from all walks of life.

I won't get into all the dirty details about Scientology, but
suffice it to say that I have done my due diligence as I was
actually thinking about becoming a Scientologist and running
a Scientology Church (they were looking for people in my area
to run one). What I found was a group of people addicted to
money, blindly following dogma spit out by LRH.

Here's a religion that literally sells you a dream and keeps
selling it to you over and over and over again through various
levels, etc. It's almost like an MLM religion based on what a
science fiction author imagined and wrote down.

If Logic was more Powerful than Imagination, this type of
religion simply could NOT exist (or most any religion for that matter).

    Just my opinion though.

    Peace & Prosperity,

    1) Imagination disposes of everything, it creates beauty, justice, and happiness, which is every thing in this world! Quote by Blaise Pascal

    2) Would I have married my husband for logic? Heck NO! Did I marry my husband because of imagination? Yeah, Baby! 26 years and counting!

I suppose everyone has their own opinion or example on the subject, and as you can clearly see...mine is imagination!

Without imagination nothing would be created for it is through our imagination and inner vision that creation formulates and through our willingness to validate it comes logic to bring that desired creation into fruition.

Without imagination there would be no science to prove whether or not the imagined is logical or possible. For science utilizes what has been imagined as it's basis to prove or disprove an idea or concept.

If it were not for imagination then technology as we know it would not exist. If it were not for Humphrey Davy's imagination then the light bulb would not have been invented (although we were taught it was Thomas Edison, research for yourself). It is through our imagination that we discern and define logic.

Everything that we know that exists in creation was created from within the imagination of the creator (God, Universe, Creative Life Force, Source, etc.) and even with science's view of creation it can not logically understand the effectiveness of imagination.

God had to Imagine a perfect universe before the universe could be created. A universe that would work in harmoney so that love could be at the center core of creation. What is logic? Logic is nothing more than man's way of saying "I'm smarter than you!"

IMO, Imagination is not for real but it will serve as your goal. So I think logic is still powerful. Like in my field as a computer programmer, you need to have a high logic to create a language and run the program..

Just having great imagination will do more harm than good. One should have a combination of Imagination and Logic and when they work together, it can create wonders !

I think it is imagination that expands our level of consciousness about what is really possible. And then logic is what makes our dreams a reality.

Go to sleep dreaming and wake up planning.

So much great food for thought on this thread.

Imagination or Logic, can you have one without the other? What would you imagine about if you couldn't put together a logical thought?

I love to visualize. It's this active imagining that has created who I am.

In the end, I think people generally enjoy stimulating their imagination rather than their linear thinking. We need art and beauty in our lives. Without it, we would never evolve to the next level of consciousness and understanding.

Without imagination, we would be machines.
Without logic we would be aimless.

Eventually though I know that imagination trumps logic, simply because we can imagine far beyond anything that we logically think is possible.

Thats why we love sci-fi, adventure stories and debating philosophy/religion. Cause we want to explore things beyond what we currently know. Imagination helps us get there, while logic helps define and support our beliefs.

I think this post is going to be stuck in some time of imagination/logic paradox if I don't quit now...
