How do you define success?

For me, success is not necessarily the results you achieve from working hard but the skills you obtain from working through the process.

What is your definition of success?
#define #success

    Great definition Kendall. You from kendall park nj perhaps?

    To me success deals closely with achieving goals...not necessarily how big or small your goal is, just achieving it is success.

    I agree with Kenster. If you are achieve your goals, you are successful. Pretty simple.

    Very interesting topic and replies. I was listening to an interview with Dr Denis Waitley last week who was asked the same question, and his response was very similar to the above mentioned responses, which I totally agree with.

    To be a "success" may mean that our journey has ended, and we have stopped growing as a person, and profession. Whereas, we may be successful in our different business ventures, and successful in reaching our goals that we have set for ourselves. It is imperative that we constantly strive to be better, and create new goals for ourselves as we go through life.

      But I certainly agree with your definition... each of us here have different views of what Success really means and I for one believe that we all have the right answer in our own different way and approach in life to succeed

    I certainly agree about achieving your goals. Over the years I've set myself many goals and have had a high 'strike rate' with them. But in retrospect many were trivial and often driven by the fashions of the day.
    I suppose I've had the most success with 'being happy' which I almost unconsciously developed as a goal over a period of time when I started to realise that most of my material goals were only transitory illusions of success.

    Success (by Bessie Anderson Stanley)

    He has achieved success
    who has lived well,
    laughed often, and loved much;

    who has enjoyed the trust of
    pure women,

    the respect of intelligent men and
    the love of little children;

    who has filled his niche and accomplished his task;

    who has left the world better than he found it
    whether by an improved poppy,
    a perfect poem or a rescued soul;

    who has never lacked appreciation of Earth's beauty
    or failed to express it;

    who has always looked for the best in others and
    given them the best he had;

    whose life was an inspiration;
    whose memory a benediction.

    Success is something that everyone tries to define but never noticing that by just being able to be as to who you are as a human is already a success for me. Where you are right now and what you want to be is another issue

    Surely success is about happiness?

    If you're happy in life then you have, by definition, been successful.

    That's what I think anyway!

        Success is a state of mind, and a feeling of immense satisfaction and contentment

        Doesn't have to be huge riches, or luxury cars and property to me.

    Success is a state of mind and a state of being. We are born successful because it was us, those of us who are able to read this post at this moment, that made it to the ultimate finishline and that was beating out millions of other little sperm cells to reach the egg and then to be housed in the wombs of our mother. I hope I was able to explain that right but we are all born winners!

    Success means meeting my goals. I set goals for myself, and if I don't meet them within certain expected times, then I consider it not a success.

    I don't concern myself too much with notions of success.

    I just try to live happily, peacefully and freely. That's about the closest 'definition' of success I'm prepared to give :-)

    Interesting thread. I also agree that learning new skills is successful, but only if you do something worthwhile with them.

    It's so true that we always need to keep growing as a person. For me, I often feel most successful when I try, and succeed, at something I'm scared of.

    Of course I also have bigger goals in mind for success, and these aren't always the same as the way others define their success. These include being able to volunteer places, having a family and being able to spend time with them in the future, and being comfortable enough to have the things I need. By the time I meet those goals, I'll probably have new goals for success!

    Albert Einstein said don't look to become a person of success but look instead to become a person of value.

    I've always loved that quote...Ok but if you were to ask me what is success, then i WILL say that once you are adding value to the marketplace, your life, your family, friends, community etc....then you are a successful person

    It is possible to have plenty money in the bank and not really be a success because you may have got that through the lottery, or unlawful means etc....

    To me, really successful people are those that make a difference in others lives in many ways and forms...
