Do you ever just hit a road block?

Hi WF!

I've been trying out dropshipping for some time now and I feel like I've hit a road block. I just don't see or feel the passion to was to continue it due to the successes other people have gotten in less time that I've been trying to do it.

How do you change this mentality (if you've ever been here before)?

First off STOP comparing yourself to others... its straight up self defeating. Start appreciating their success and strive for that and look less at time. TIME is the portion that is self defeating.

As long as you are trying... as long as you are working on it consistently say 2 hours a day and as long as you keep moving forward - YOU WILL find success.

YOU are the only obstacle to success. I am sure somewhere you have created a goal... say $10,000 in a year. Start with "My goal is to create ONE sale" Then move to "One sale a month" then "One sale a week" and then "2 sales a week"

Start with achievable - and progress from there. Again comparing yourself to "Hey I made a million dollars this week" is self defeating. This is a race with YOU being the only participant.

    Hope that Helps!

I do understand and appreciate the feedback. It just seems so easy for everyone else. I look at the items that they're selling and I can never understand why they're more successful with those items than mine. Also, yes, it does help to know that it's just me and not my products. Perhaps my marketing/advertising.

The Warrior Path can help and participating Warriors can be your biggest asset in terms of collaborating, sharing ideas and more importantly 'taking action'.

  • As an experienced internet marketer, I would like to help if there is anything I can do for you. Are you stuck in sales? If your problem is not sourcing the product (about Chinas current situation) then I think its something you can fix. But first of all, don't lose your self-confidence.

Which "everyones" exactly? In my (considerable) experience, about 90% of "success" stories are straight-up lies. I can say I made a million dollars this morning before breakfast selling snowflakes to Eskimos. I can even provide "proof" in the form of screenshots.

IMO you need to lose some of your naivete and look at facts, not anecdotal evidence.

I recently started a drop-ship site because I found a semi-exclusive supplier in an underserved niche with "in-country" supply and distribution. I decided on dropshipping because there is money to be made in the "specific" situation. I didn't decide I wanted to be a dropshipper and then go looking for products.

Doing dropshipping the way it is "attempted" by the masses is a recipie for disaster IMO. I wager if you knew the real numbers (attempts VS faliures) you would have a different perspective.

What would you say the attempts:failures rate is?

I have no idea. There are no statistics. That's the thing about online business, people try and fail and no one ever knows.

I would guess it's the same as any other type of online business, about 95% (only my opinion) failure.

Sometimes it takes a long time and a lot of failed attempts to find the right opportunity at the right time that is the right fit for you. You need to be dedicated and motivated and willing to regroup and try again.

With respect and I mean what I am about to say in a good way..

The success and failure rate is on YOU and YOU alone.

I may be wrong, I don't think so, but that is the point that IGotMine is making and that is a good point IMO.

Yes, look at what other people are doing, what they are saying, etc... with a grain of salt in the 'everyday world' and with a mountain of salt in the 'Internet Marketing World.' Make sense?

Practice what we call 'Due Diligence' aka 'Caveat Emptor' meaning do not believe everything that prople say they are doing and everything that they are saying. Make sense?

I am not a cheerleader Cheese, so don't look my way for inspiration, rather look at yourself and be honest with yourself that this Internet Marketing thing is like any other business wherein it takes time to succeed and fail. Know that failure is a jumping stone to success. Know that failure is not to be repeated.. just change what you were doing and try that and if that does not work for YOU change that.. until YOU reach a level of success.

You've made it so much easier and clearer. It is all about myself and how I do things. Not how others do it that might work for me. I really understand that now and I appreciate both of you for helping me see that. Thanks to the both of you!

The average number thrown around for ecommerce success rate ( you can google that term for more details ) is 90% ( +/- )

I will assume you are using Shopify. you can quickly Google some Shopify stats...like how many active stores - 500,000+ as of Feb 6th ( its interesting to note that there are 1,000,000 stores in total - so immediately we can figure a 50% fail rate ). The platform sold roughly 1.5 Billion in 2019.

You can then take those numbers to determine all things being equal each store would have sold $3000 worth of stuff for the year. Then factor in Companies like Tesla and Budweiser use the platform and numbers go south real fast - extract for the APP side of things and then include the variables of Shopify's POS users.. and it gets even worse.

Contrary to popular belief ecomm is not really that easy of a game - To succeed in e-comm you need to succeed in traffic - like most anything internet related.

That's just one platform. Woocommerce, very popular with newbies (most likely to fail) says:

The WooCommerce.com homepage publishes the exact number of WooCommerce downloads. The current figure is 82,477,514. After an update to the WooCommmerce plugin is released, there are approximately 400,000 downloads of the plugin through automatic updates. This gives us a clue as to the number of actively managed stores. https://barn2.co.uk/woocommerce-stats/
That's roughly 0.5% of total downloads which are active. I think 5% success is fairly accurate.

I follow more the 97% fail rate category so 3% success is the number I play with. And the circles I hang in this number gets thrown around success is determined by making $100 in one year. So depending on how exactly you determine "Successful" it might really only be 1%.

I've definitely hit roadblocks because I have also worked around very successful people. It did just teach me that I had a lot more to learn/practice. For me as a freelancer, I've found that the thing I lack most is the ability to sell. I am not a natural salesperson. I am a web developer and introvert. I've learned from watching some people I know, that a lot of their success comes down to their ability to market themselves, network, an establish relationships.

I've just acknowledged this and am actively trying to improve my abilities as a salesperson.

what mentality are you buildin g your person success around this . or are yopu planning to put an info product together so you are playing tricks to boost your figures to look a lot better .. so you sell $300,000 of one product but clear no profit..but on mention the 300,000 when selling the course .then have people wondering what they are doing wrong if they try to follow your course but don't make money .

are you running this business to support your lifestyle or are you trying to grow it fast and sell it .

skills talent resources timeing background .. all kinds of things effect success or volume or what ever .. without seeing everything you really can not compare ..but you are human and its comparison to others that bring us most of our missery .. and it is just worse with social media .. where people can take a picture of the one happy moment in a shatty day and make you think their life is great .

my default mode has turned to mistrusting people unless they talk in terms successful people or skilled people talk

We all have a different starting point. Different paces and different scenarios.
Rule 1: Don't ever compare yourself to others, you are you, focus on that. At this point, continue learning new things, don't waste time doing unnecessary things.
Rule 2: Motivation wears out, but habit lasts longer. There are small things that when compounded, can result in greater things.
Rule 3: Small progress is still progress, just keep pushing forward.

I often share this advice for many different reasons but you really need to spend time devouring Sold Auctions. It is a gold mine free education.

Last time I hit a roadblock was being hypnotized by some incredibly well written Sales Copy and got to the Price section!

Mindset is a difficult thing to change.

I think the key in changing your mindset is to establish some values and long-term goals, and then making small incremental steps towards them. When you encounter small successes on your road towards your goals, you subconsciously create a success spiral and it can even change your perception of yourself as someone who can really achieve things.

Also, timing isn't everything - some people will achieve a lot in a small amount of time, but it's whether they can maintain that achievement or not.

Another point is to reflect and re-evaluate on what you're currently doing. Weigh up the pros and cons of it and decide whether it is really worth your time and energy anymore. If the passion for what you're doing is gone, then you may need to try something new.

Believing in your own self is the best thing you can do to push yourself forward. Have a firm faith that you will reach your goal and then give your 100 percent. When you start questioning yourself, your efforts and start comparing yourself to others, that is where the problem starts. You are a separate human being who does things in his own way and so will succeed in his own time. Don't let time dictate your success rate.
