Mental Health is the most important factor which needs to be given top priority. Take Small breaks every few hours and relax a bit. Do meditation on regular basis.

I'm talking about minutes spent exercising ok...

For me, a good workout keeps everything in place, 30-40 minutes doing some fasted cardio and then hitting the gym for around 60 minutes will always work its magic on me.

I make sure that my work-life balance is in check. Ofcourse, there are periods when extended working hours are needed to complete the task at hand. Most of the time, I try not to get too carried away by "answering that last email" or "looking at one more set of data". Usually, if not strictly necessary, it's better to take that time the next working day so as to free up some more time to spend with family, friends, etc.

I suppose writing is a form of expression and therapy. But I never gave it much thought.

A hundred years ago, how did they take care of their mental health?

They worked. And it was usually physical labor. If you are busy working, with real labor, you are too busy to think about your mental health. And after a day of hard work, you are too tired to care.

And 500 years ago? We were too busy not starving to think about if we were stressed or contented.

Empathy is obviously my thing.

I have had my mental health go off the rails in the past and through a lot of error and trials know what to pay attention to. Sleep and diet are important factors and making sure to walk around outside and be get sunlight in my eyes.

I actually have to limit how long I sit in front of a screen and how much I focus on the screen . The sitting cause back problems and blood flow issues and too much screen time increases the risk and the depths of depression.

And this is only a suggestion but limiting your use of social media and cutting down on negative information inputs. Unless it's real research and the money is a factor the juice is not worth the squeeze.

The short answer is limit screen time to work time and get up and move often.

But no one on this forum wants the simple answer

I'm going to say something that won't be popular.

Internet marketing is one of the least stressful ways to make a living, or as a hobby.

You don't have to cold call, call prospects on the phone, or talk to them at all.

You don't have to get up at 6AM, drive in the snow, or do physical labor. You can goof off all you want. You don't even have to hide in the restroom to avoid work.

Nobody is yelling at you to "go faster" during the day. There is nobody pressuring you to do something you don't want to do.

What I'm doing right now? typing? That's about as hard as internet marketing is on the nerves.

If internet marketing is too stressful for you, you can always stop for a while, or quit completely. Nobody would even notice.

This is so stressful that the way you take a break is to exercise. What other job is there that you stop work to exercise? Farming? Delivering packages? Cooking?

I suppose if you had arthritis in your fingers, typing would be harder.

I want to be snarky and ask you to understand that waking up at 4:30 and doing a list of motivational and productivity boosting thing . Before doing any work make it so much more stressful to make money working from home.

There is a huge difference between doing something because you want to, and doing something because you have to.

If you wake up at 4:30 because that's what you want to do....that's admirable.

But the stress comes when you don't want to get up at 4:30, but have to. The stress is generated in the "Not wanting to".

Being committed to not being fired is so much more stressful than being committed to success.

At least, that's my perspective. I could be entirely wrong.

And...that's why the vast majority of motivational program fail.

The people who seek them out think that motivation is the problem.

But it's impossible to get excited about doing things you don't want to do.

It is possible to want something (or some goal) so badly that you'll do things you don't want to do to get it. But that isn't what motivation is. Motivation is doing something that you want to do.

The motivational programs try to convince you that you want to do the things you don't want to do....or they try to convince you (to sell the program) that you do not have to do anything you don't already want to do.

That's why achievers don't need motivation. They are already doing what they want to do.

I supported myself working online for years - and never got up at 4:30 ...or at 6 am for that matter. If I'm a slave to an alarm clock, too much like a job. With the exception of a few CD's from Learning Strategies Corp, I don't do affirmations...or motivational stuff....or breakfast.

In my mind, I take a brisk walk with the dog 'early' every morning....in reality on bad weather days the dog and I look at each other....and go back to sleep.

Oddly - I have never been 'committed to success' - I've just done what I needed to do to take care of myself, pay my own way and live life as I want to. I could have worked harder and earned more - but I preferred balance and as much free time as possible. I could have worked less and let others take care of me - but that's not how I'm wired.

I think one of the freedoms of working online is not having to meet anyone else's expectations or definitions.

That's odd. I feel the same way.
Early on, maybe in my early 20s, I felt committed to being the world's greatest vacuum cleaner salesman (saying that sounds weird now).

But for the vast majority of my adult life, my commitment has just been to doing my job (whatever that is), and all the rest is just whatever itch I feel needs to be scratched. And mostly, just doing what I want to. Usually that involved getting paid. But it could have been art, philosophy, a hobby.

I thought about this last night, after I posted.

Some people have real, serious mental health problems. Schizophrenia, for example. Compulsive disorders. I didn't mean to make light of those problems. Some people have real struggles.

But most people don't. And those are the people I was talking about.

I had the little dog alarm waking my up at 6 am licking my face so I would get dressed and take her out . It better than when she wakes me up just getting her snout close to me face so I breath in doggy breath.

I have said it before but I think their are many people their work has to be stressful or hard in order to justify having nice things or what they spend money on. like the is some sin enjoying life .

Well a great marketer can convince you you want something that you previously had no idea existed.

I have been far more interested in figuring out how to stabilize my bi polar disorder and avoid those pits of deep dark depression the last 4 years. But also what wealth is and different ways people build it. That are as different as the people

What if the overly focused success culture actually makes the effects of mental illness far worse as the working conditions grind down people and break people.

So people working from home for themselves with any employers intrusive tracking software should be able to design an optimal work environment and manage workflow to eliminate stress.

As far as motivation goes and this is kind of woo but in the last several years my mindset has shifted from cause and effect to the effect being the cause.

Instead of these things happened so I am here doing this now. The effects I want in the future are the cause of the things I do now

Individuals may want a lot for themselves, but in the vast majority of jobs, everyone just wants to do their job, and go home. People who are really focused on their personal success are exceedingly rare.

I almost never meet anyone that is focused on their success. Unless "Success" means doing the job they are paid to do.

But nobody is forced to work there. Right now, employers are begging for workers of all kinds. You can take your pick of jobs and levels of stress. Or choose not to do any of it.

Millions of baby boomers retired . And many to working parent households have gone to one working parent houses for many reasons .

Success for most people who earn their money by being employees. Is to make enough money while at work to pay their bills and be able to enjoy their non work time.

I'm am going to throw happiness on the same pile as success and say the majority of people are not after success and happiness. They are after comfort minimal struggle and excitement on a regular basis.

Great Answer, I totally agree, I cannot seem to find one person (*outside of people already focused on success) anywhere, definitely not in my family, most past and current friends, and the funny part is, they are out-pacing me ATM - but they don't see the future, study, or develop disciplines!!! Earl Nightingale's "Lead the Field" was dead on, 98% don't have a compass, I should be swimming in pools of golden halos knowing this, and yet, I regress!

My guess - the people who are worried about 'intrusive tracking software' an employer might use to verify the hours worked or the calls made, etc....are the same ones in the workplace who always have excuses for being late - for leaving early - for not meeting deadlines...for not getting all the days/holdays off they request, etc.

If a home based employee is doing the work and putting in the hours as agreed - it shouldn't bother the employee at all to have tracking software being used.

I worked for years with cameras watching everything I did - every move my hands made - my facial expression, etc....after the first couple of months I totally forgot the cameras were there. I was good at my job and anyone watching could see that. the cameras were there because there are employees who will cheat, slack off and steal you blind if they have the chance.

I am not going to argue with you . When the lockdowns started. My position was because the government was telling people they could not work the government would have to give them money.

Now the argument is the government gave people to much money so they do not want to work.

You may have been fine working as a card dealier in a casino. But not every job in society needs that amount of observation.

And just because you where willing to to go through that. Does not mean everyone else should go through it.

I'm sorry if I assumed you were dealing cards in a casino. But what else would require that level of observation way way back

You have never said anything about working in casinos. So the intense observation you where under that you explained had nothing to do with gambling

Shifting the message pre Covid much of the work force was in jobs they did not like but they had a job. At the same time it has become ok to quit jobs you don't like for what ever reason and find a better job. That may pay better money.

Gym nut so I am always learning. I realized that sometimes if online and there is some technical glitch or news that makes me cringe it affected me physically which is real crazy.

Serious facial expressions, breathing etc. I had to put that in check and fast.

Much improved.

But one of the niches I am in on Instagram is Motivational and I mentioned this in another thread that there are so many people glorifying the psycho JOKER.

They place quotes with his image as rebel wisdom to get likes and it really pisses me off but commenting on it seems like it would be a complete waste of human energy. You either understand the danger and foolishness or you do not. You will not be converted.

When the copy cat idiots are rotting in jail I am sure they thought it would be much cooler.

Gratitude, thankfulness, and humility at the start of every day usually sets my mood to a positive state. It doesn't always work due to tasks and stresses of the day that always pop up but its a solid foundation.

Also, has anyone ever tried isochronic and/or binaural beats? You can find hundreds on youtube.

I have a collection of CD's (Learning Strategies Corporation and one other source) that use binaural beats and other techniques.

I used to work 7 days a week and it was very demanding. I have listened to an audiobook from Brian Tracy and he recommended taking 1 day off at least for mental health and to disconnect completely from your business.

IMHO the best way to avoid mental health issues is simply through working hard, being successful, and taking care of your problems. When you're not doing well that when you start developing issues i.e. if you're not making money that's when the stress comes. Not being able to pay bills will drive you up the wall. On the other hand if you're having overwhelming success...well...that's when you can take time off, go on holiday, buy the things you need etc. Most people do not inherently have mental health issues. We're not inherently depressed, anxious etc. We feel this way because of the issues in our lives. The best way to take care of these issues then is simply to solve them.

I program the mind once a month and I call it "mental calibration" so the mind stays focused on lofty goals and what not. I take long frequent trips to nature and I do small rituals that command change.

Me personally I like gravitating towards positive energy I take breaks from my rather hectic marketing routines to train or either surround myself with like minded individuals with who bring the best out of me and just make everyday count make sure to express your love to the ones you deeply care about and give back , that's how I keep my sanity in order

Lately forward thinking and planning specific steps has been really helpful.

Not letting anything going on in the present get you down if you are feeling anxious.
