What is your Emotional IQ ??

Iam the first to admit I do not have the highest IQ among humans in our society.
But not to sound like a braggart but my emotional IQ I believe would test moderately high on any test.

And you ???

I'd probably score high on the emotional IQ test, whereas, it almost appears many successful people do not let their emotions interfere with business... still working on that one!

Well that is because it really doesn't matter in the world at large. Basically can you easily avoid offending people or doing anything that qualifies as sexual harassment.

How well can you probe those around you for sensitive issues. Then how do you dance around them and avoid it or do you just steamroll over people and see how offended they get. Then name society for being to soft.

Not quite sure how to answer this one, as I get the gist of what you are saying; but I cannot honestly say I've EVER had any issues or attempted to sexually harass people... whether be it they are straight, gay, or unsure which gender they are, lol

I do however LOVE me some sarcasm, constructive criticism, and the occasional need to offend people IF and WHEN the circumstances DEMAND. Which, living here in Florida with so many transient passer-by's and tourist's... it almost constitutes COMEDY HOUR for the likes of those seeking to be offended.

I generally DO NOT dance, probe, or steamroll over people as a general rule... but, there are exceptions that push the envelope, trigger my road rage, or draw out my inner-demons when people effectively express (or actively portray) willful ignorance. *Especially, in areas of life that people should know better than to invoke the "Psychosocial" (*The Preservation of the Martyr in Me!") - Slipknot

I think I understand what you are saying. Is it the same people who say "that is just who iam" after they have steamrolled over you with their brutal honesty and insults ??

It like porn you know it when you see it .

For a better example or examples than I can explain. A YouTubee named Nicolas crown. Has a bunch of shorts called rich vrs really rich. The rich character is that really snotty person looking for a way to flaunt how better than they are than those they feel are lesser than them.

Otherwise it's the kind of stuff that if someone said outside of a locker room or a handful of buddies there in a less soft time they would probably have gotten physically assaulted or killed

I'm sorry I didn't actually mean to imply you have committed sexual harassment at any time.

My view is emotional intelligence has been sold generally as one of those soft skills that makes people better managers. Now with the competitive head count reductions in corporations. The people with these skills are the first out the door. With corporations happily replacing people with software or AI.

Interesting comments. In my view, 'emotional IQ' is strictly about how I manage MYSELF...how I control my responses to others, or present myself in a social setting.

Emotional IQ as it relates to 'other people' is still about ME as it's how I react/respond to what others say and do. It is also how I SEE others and whether I have empathy or not...and it's perhaps the most difficult IQ to 'fake'.

I'm not sure how you define Emotional IQ, so I relied on AI and came up with what seems to be the universally accepted definition:

Emotional intelligence (otherwise known as emotional quotient or EQ) is the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict.

IF this is what you mean...then, (but if this doesn't exactly reflect your question...let us know).

In POSITIVE ways may be subjective, as in the case of the salesman with a high EQ who can empathize and lead others to a BUY conclusion.
But then, maybe buyer's remorse sets in, and in fact, the reason we have rules and laws to prevent people from making snap knee-jerk buying decisions they can't come back from.

I think good salespeople, even ones selling crappy products, ala Wolfie of Wall St. have very high EQ's, as do many politicians who know and understand and can empathize with a minority who will actually get out and vote.

There may be some evidence that supports the premise that high EQ could lead to being over sensitive, accept toxic positivity, and lead one to make bad choices, as in lending the Bro-Law money due to an emotion.

I think those of us who think we have a high EQ, would be well advised to actually review some of the decisions we've made over the last decade, and to really see if we have positive ways to handle those things associated with EQ; stress control, communication and overcome challenges and have we defused conflict because of our high EQ?

People often tell me far more than I ever wanted to know about their 'issues'. I don't probe....I try to escape.

Iam convinced that many people think they are the only ones with 'a story'. People just love to talk about themselves. My brother was bad about this ( he's deceased). He would talk incessantly about a topic including himself but rarely could comprehended (or just didn't give a damn) that no one was interested in listening.

Some people just cannot take cues!!

I have avoided this thread... I am far from Emotionally brilliant haha My biggest problem in this type of arena is i simply dont give a flip... Truth is truth ( and sujective to me - I get that ) and I aint going to tread lightly around it, and if I hurt your feelings in the process... id give you a tissue but i dont have any on me ( Im a sleeve kind of guy )

I pretty much have 2 modes of communicating... if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all... OR speak my opinion if the receiver likes it or not.

What is an emotional IQ? By the way, in business, I think emotional strength is extremely important. I can study physics and mathematics without being prevented by emotional weakness (although people said these are difficult subjects) but when it comes to doing business, a small problem could make me feel like I wanna give up

doubt the existence of emotional IQ.
Google search for the term yields 790,000,000 results....and a mental health .org site gives this definition:

Emotional Intelligence (EI) is the ability to manage both your own emotions and understand the emotions of people around you. There are five key elements to EI: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.

    That's really asking a lot, isn't it???

I'm not sure how you would manage your own emotions. Can you feel emotions on demand? Can you lessen your emotional response with a force of will?

If you can. you have powers I don't have.

You can manage what you say, and how you behave. I suppose that may be what they mean.

And self awareness is something everyone thinks they have and others don't.

But I can see empathy as the big attraction, and social skills. These two factors project to others how we feel about them.

Personally, I think I have almost no emotional intelligence. But I think I'm skilled at faking it for short periods of time.

God,I love hearing the sound of my own voice.

Someone cuts you off in traffic. You feel annoyed. You can, then, stew in that annoyance for the rest of the day. Or mutter something under your breath and let it go. Or decide to teach that jerk a lesson and speed up and cut them off. And try to stay in front of them, you know, change lanes when they do. The response is what you control. And if you chose to not let that annoying act live in your mind for more than a second, you controlled an emotion.

You control your emotions by controlling your thoughts and actions.
