Upending the negative neural pathways in your brain and replacing them with positive neural pathways through a focused and concerted effort ??

Please describe negative neural pathways and positive neural pathways.

I mean tell me the difference between a negative and positive pathway.

Your question could be interpreted lots of different ways.

It really subjective. Whatever emotions and experiences that elevate your state of being happy, joyful , and enriched. To me at least that is what i consider positive neural pathways i.e. building positive neural connections in the brain that correspond with those three particular states

        Thanks for explaining.

This may not be in the exact same line, but I find these three ideas help me.

In the last year, I've had a few "Worst days of my life". Genuinely horrific days. One idea that makes it a little easier is that I know that the next day will be better. Maybe not great, but less terrible. And that's generally true.

At the end...nothing really matters. All my bad days, my regrets, any pain I've caused, any pain I've endured...and any of my accomplishments....won't matter at all.

And no matter what happened, my first thought is usually, what do I gain from this? How do I use this as the next step?

So true, Claude. I have just briefly touched on this but back in the Summers of 2017 and 2018 I had crippling ,and I mean 'death knocking on your door' type crippling clinical depression. I mean for a month in each of those bouts I could not sleep, eat, or get out of bed,

I had to be hospitalized for one week the first round of clinical depression in 2017 and for 3 weeks the second bout in 2018.

It was so dark I cannot even begin to describe with words. I really did not think I would survive, seriously.

But god willing I did get the help I needed and arose out of these two bouts of depression.

And looking back on it even though it was absolutely horrific to go through I find myself to be a much more sensitive and empathetic person when it comes to others' plights because of it. I find myself to be a much better father and husband, more patient ,and overall a stronger person because I went through these trying times.

I think anything short of death you can always find the silver lining in , it's just a matter of searching for it

Was there an external cause for such depression?

Well it was like a dark cloud that hovered above me. And having ocd didn't help the matter at all!!

It's still too painful to share some of the thoughts going through my head that caused the eventual to happen : clinical depression.

Maybe someday I will be able to share it more in depth.

But I must say that anyone out there going through depression or anxiety and any other number of mental health issues... well there is ALWAYS hope. And I mean always !! So if it seems very hopeless and you are on your last leg ... well I have been there and know the feeling. There is help out there and you can get out of the "darkness". I promise you that !!!

Like health, for example, if you have a chronic terminal illness/condition holding a positive attitude isn't going to help really. It just makes it easier for you and the people around you to accept your fate. Another thing is that "good life" is very subjective as it's different to everyone, one can be happy with just enough to live, whilst others have everything+1 and have depression. I believe it has to do with the way you are used to see the world, being positive is going to help, yes, but not in every case

Family history and general male lifespan in the USA gives me another 30-35 years of lifespan. There is nothing wrong with going through depression or other negative emotional state. If you program in a course of healthy positive feedback loops the get you into a more positive condition.

You are A human being. Much of the time you are just being human. Many of the drama games involved in negative emotional loops .tend to be a compulsive form of entertainment. When people have designed very boring and unrewarding lives.

It's far easier to design a better life while you are happy than to attempt to design a better life that you hope will make you happy.Well if you understand the important basic things. That are required for your day to day Joy

I tend to disagree. There are many studies that suggest that having a really strong positive attitude increases the longevity in people with chronic illnesses. You're right though, a person with a higher than normal positive attitude still won't stand a chance against a gliablastoma brain cancer.,It's almost a guaranteed death sentence. But I guarantee you that with many other chronic illnesses having that great attitude will increase the odds a little bit in your favor!! Maybe just slightly but it can happen. Heart disease and high blood pressure come to mind

Heart diseas and high blood pressure can start to develop in teens and twenties. And has an effect on the function of the brain.

The entire body is a functional ecosystem . physical fitness good cardio and strength training. Heart healthy behavior, building a healthy gut Flora. Then taking care of the brain . All work together in a virtual cycle.

Even if you have abused Evey part of the system for decades. It may take years but you can eventually improve the quality of your life dramatically.

Then once you start that positive neural network starts to replace the current one . There is a point of no return though if there is disease in that system already.

I think I know a little about this.

It seems that people with a happy demeanor....a good attitude....a joy for life....are healthier.

There are a couple reasons for that. They avoid many of the destructive habits (especially lack of sleep) that are the result of anxiety....or a bad outlook on life.

But I think the main reason we see happy people as healthier is that they simply don't complain as much about their health problems.

For example, a nurse asks my wife to tell her how much pain she is feeling...on a scale of one to ten. Cheryl says "2".

I suspect that if I had the same level of pain, I would say "5".

They also don't talk about their problems as much..Some people just don't complain as much, or want someone worrying about them. They don't want to be a burden.

In my experience, the people who seem the happiest and healthiest are the ones who don't see everything as being about them....their problems, their pain.

            Just a thought.

I consider myself a very upbeat , glass is half full type guy!! And I don't want to sound like a braggart but in a group of people I just do not care about talking about my problems. Even one on one I don't. I think it is boring to talk about one self. And iam thinking that other individuals just don't care anyway lol

I generally avoid complaining about my health issues. Because if anything is listening it's the heal issues and it just makes it hurt worse.

The problem with complaining is the people willing to listen are paying attention for the moment it's their turn to complain .

It's fine to mention issues that qualify as complaining if you are taking actions to fix the issues. Or someone messed up and you are attempting to get them to fix their mistake.

I have never had to sleep on a sidewalk or dealt with real hunger where I had no idea when I would eat again. And all my health issues happened at a young enough age I could learn what I needed to do to heal over time.

I have made at least a half dozen friends in the last ten years who would be about my age if they where still alive.

Treat a number of the issues you have that other people would complain about as odd blessings.

The three months I was in the Philippines ten years ago changed my view in a critical way. The default state many people had was happy.

As Claude is most likely leaning to a psychopath in what he said someone can destroy a person town or country and feel good about it.

As far as I have learned through my life, anything you strive to make a continuous habit of everyday routine, can create new neural pathways in your brain, leading to change the previous ones. When a thing becomes a habit, it is easy to maintain. try to be disciplined in any thing you want to achieve.

Happiness is not a state of accomplishment - it's a state of being.

The happiest people I've known have been content with what and who and where they are - not striving for more or better.

I have found that people who think if they get 'more and more' it will automatically make them happy...but usually are strongly disappointed when they finally do attain that 'more and more ' !!

I have found extreme satisfaction with paying all our bills and having a little bit left over to take a nice little summmer vacation ! We are not rich by any stretch but learn to extend our finances to work for us !

P.S. Shane, i think you give 'getting rich' more credit than it should get as you're always talking about hitting it big in the stock market. Just remember to be content with where you are at. Love life and see the beauty in waking up and having breath in your lungs and blood in your body

Well like many other people the idea of fantasy of getting or being rich . tends not to actually have any examples in physical reality. Sure it happens in movies and other forms of entertainment all the time.

Then there are the spoiled children of the very rich.

As we get older and have more life experience or a wide range of experiences we get more aware of what we like and what we do not like. So we can be content with our lives with the occasional addition or upgrade to better.

Without the need to crap on what we currently have to move to the better.

This is going to be critical as we go into a more and more post scarcity world.

Honestly the great sage of our time George Carlin nailed the paradox of more decades ago. People by more stuff until they fill their home.then they buy a bigger home or another home to fill it with more stuff.

Agreed John Blackman which is a well known celebrity here got an aggressive jaw cancer and after the doc,s did their umm, well they performed surgery and removed part of his jaw so he had trouble speaking and had to drink his food through a straw, his usually upbeat attitude started to collapse, (he was interviewed in the paper l read in the past).

And to make a long story short he died recently.

If life kicks you in the guts or you allow it to then the positive attitude may start to crumble.

People that are very nice are usually very trusting, which is why you hear so much about people dying who helped everyone and trusted authority totally.

You mean like Jim Carry in "Bruce Almighty"who learns the joy in manual labor?

There is joy in manual labor there is also joy in making shitloads and changing the world.

    I didn't say 'joy' - and life isn't a movie.

Wouldn't know - as I have not done either of those - have you?

So you can't figure out what you want in your life and what success means to you. You need someone else to write it in a book and tell you what success is?

Life is going to get tough going forward as many things that requires being rich and successful drop in prices so anyone can have it.

It may not be simple! But, when we learn to be more present and focus on being conscious aware and in the present moment. We will be able to control our thoughts and remove all negative thoughts. Being in the present moment and aware of what we think is the key to living a happier healthier and wealthier life.

Being in the present moment and paying more attention to what we think is definitely the key to the living room happier healthier and wealthier life. We must learn to focus on being conscious and paying attention to our thoughts anytime we catch ourselves having a negative thought we must immediately replace it with a positive uplifting thought. This takes practice and will definitely change your life
