Well I Read it early 2008. The major concept that I took was being the ghost in the machine. My computer broke Thursday and did not get back on til Sunday. Nothing needed my attention, since I work on project basis, not part of the system. That was a direct learning that I implemented.

I have the earlier edition of the 4-Hour Work Week and it's a very good book to read, especially for anyone marketing products online.

Feriss is an engaging writer. His astonishing successes (plural) make it clear that thinking in different ways really do produce very different results from what most people accept.

Some of what he's done... well, to me he sounded a bit like a jerk. However, if he's as annoying as he sounds at times, that's even stronger support for his business suggestions: You don't have to be charming & likable to achieve an amazing level of success in a very brief time.

In my opinion, one of the strongest points of his book is to think differently. Look for better answers. Find ways around the "we've always done it this way" rules, and you may discover a shortcut to first prize in any arena.

I admit, I thought he came off as a bit of a jerk also! But the info is really great and he does a great job of introducing a new way of thinking about work, business and money. I found it to be a really helpful book as far as choosing and setting up a business as well as mindset.

I think you have to be at a certain stage to read this book. If you read it as your first personal development book, you will think he is a jerk and this is not real. If you are a student who understands self growth and then read this, WOW. Thats what happen to me.

This one is on my list for Christmas ... I've been meaning to pick it up for a long time.

My only concern: I'm a big Gary Vaynerchuk fan, and his mantra is basically "work your tail off at something you love." Might be a bit difficult for me to wrap my brain around Tim's principles. I can't imagine, even with outsourcing, such a small work schedule.

Any one have any thoughts on that?

      Best,
      Scott

Yeah I do...it is about life style design.

Tim works his ass off as well (I think he did like 24 interviews for his book yesterday).

Are there other things you love besides what your work entails?

Build the 4 hour work week around your core business (income stream and reduce day to day tasks). Now your love what you do life style is based on working on projects basis. This is what I do. Example today I got up, met with the trainer (need to get into share, IMPORTANT), then did an hour call with another Internet Marketer, ate lunch and just got back from watching the Olympics pass my building (Quite cool) and now I will be online for a few hours then goto a Internet Marketing Meet Up. The reason I tell you this is how much of that adds to my bottom line. NONE, but all of it does as its a life style I choose. If I left for a month or 2 months, business is still as normal. Just none of those things....

So work hard as part of your life style design, but include all importants areas and things you love into that.

Tim Ferriss cheated his way to a kickboxing championship
win. He exploited a loophole in the rules. Some would call
it inventive thinking, but I think it's poor sportsmanship.
That makes him look like a jerk to me.

There's some good stuff in the book about protecting your
time, delegating, entrepreneurship. If you want to
do the fitness/supplement biz, get the book, since that's
what he does and the notion that everything he did can
be applied to any business revenue model in not accurate.

Ferriss doesn't advocate slovenliness or not working hard -
he works very hard when launching new projects. The
idea is to work very hard in spurts, but set up the revenue
so it goes on autopilot after you set it up. Then you can
spend the rest of your time doing stuff other than working...
it may improve your ability to be an effective entrepreneur
to have lots of time for other areas of growth - and that's
part of the premise with "4 Hour Workweek".

Another premise is that you can have a really fun (single)
lifestyle if you avoid weighing yourself down with debt and
mortgages and other trappings of "success". Ferris claims
he doesn't own a lot of stuff, because travel and experiences
are more important to him than owning houses, cars, and
    jewelry, et al.

With owning a lot of "rich guy" stuff comes a lot of responsibility,
and that's not what Ferris wants.

You have to understand, the guy has no kids and the impression
from the book is that he's a globe-trotting swinging single... so
if you're in a stage in your life where you don't have adult
responsibilities, his model is most applicable.

Dude, you cannot post affiliate links in this forum at all. And if it's promotion of your own links, it can only be done in your signature, and in your signature you can't even have affiliate links, but the links must be to your own site.

Just got done listening to an interview between Eben Pagan and Tim Ferris. There wasn't really anything new in it, or any 'wow/aha' moment for me. (Normally I get at least one of those in Eben's interviews) Thought I'd mention it here.

Here's the link to it if anyone else wants to listen: Listen to the Teleclass Replay
