True Confession Of An Internet Marketer - 7 Mindsets To Wealth

After 9+ years of marketing online, I have seen ups and downs in my business. In fact I spent 90% of those 9 years barely holding my head above water. Literally living paycheck to paycheck and in debt up to my eye balls and promising my wife I'd make this internet marketing thing work. (She is very patient - lol)



I remember seeing my friends and family during the holidays and they would say with a smirk "Still doing that internet thing?" Deep down they want me to say "YES, it is going great!". But year after year I'd say "Yah, I am still trying" with a sheepish grin.


It was bad, every two weeks the paycheck would run out and we would go on a diet of stale bread and peanut butter. And those darn credit card companies kept threatening to take me to court. Then you can add the pressures of everyday life... work, marriage & kids and you are on a fast course to disaster.


I tell you all this because I have made mistakes in my online business, and made them early on, when I did not know any better. Despite being $200 K in debt, despite being dirt broke, despite losing over 5 businesses I have built online - I over came all of it.

Will you? Will you make the commitment to your business? Or will you be a statistic - one of those 90% who never make a dime with their online business.

I am writing you this message. You can do this, this does work and there is a lot of income and wealth to be made with your online business.

"If it's going to be it's up to me." (repeat that)

Great! Now here is the 7 laws or mindsets you must gain in order to be successful online. I learned these the hard way... and now you do not have too.

Mindset #1: Give first & Sell Second

Before you can sell anything to someone else you have to give something away.

For example: You are at the store and a sales person starts to talk to you. What is your first reaction? In most cases you back away... why? Because, you don't want to be sold to.

Most sales people mess up by saying "Can I help you?"... I always say No.

A better approach would be to say "It's a nice day, what brings you to our store today?"

Am I going to say? "No, it's not a nice day and it's none of your business." or "Yes, it is a nice day and I'm hear to buy some socks."

Most of the time I'm going to state the second reply and the salesperson should say "Great! I'm not suppose to tell people this... but we have socks on our clearance table today. What size shoe do you where? You would look great in our..."

You see the salesman gave the customer value first and then lead them to the solution.

Online we give people value through information, a check list, a review, coupon, discount or bargain.

People hate to be sold but love a deal.

If you have your own products, give a free gift first and then suggest an upsell.

Got it - FREE VALUABLE CONTENT... free, free, free & then sell.



Mindset #2: Never Ever Stop Believing In Yourself

If you do not believe in yourself, guess what? No one else will either.

(Hard fact - but true)

I get super excited when I talk about internet marketing - because I'm confident in my skills and knowledge.

The crazy thing is most of us know this but very few actually believe it.

I was at a seminar a few months ago and the speaker (a billionaire) asked: "What are the two things a business owner needs in order to be successful?"

(Back story I drank one of those Starbuck Iced Lattes right before the seminar - too much caffeine)

I jumped up out my seat and blurted out: "A system and confidence" He said "Right!"

Without a proven system and confidence, you have nothing.

Anthony has the system and now you have to bring the confidence - believe this will work for you.



Mindset #3: Acknowledge The Easy Button Does Not Exist.

This is one mindset that was hard for me to swallow. In fact it took me 8 years and $200 K in debt to figure it out. There is NO EASY way to wealth. There is not one system or web site or marketing method that will make you wealthy.

Stop jumping from one system to the next. You need to build a real business. It needs to be for the long term. Forget about what you will make in the short term, what are you going to make next year and the year after that?

(Businesses on the internet fold up over night... October 2008 I had three businesses fold up and lose three streams of income over night - I had to start over)

If you get this... just tell yourself right now that "There is NO EASY way to wealth, but, I will never ever quit until I am happy with my results." If you do this you will be ahead of 95% of all the other business owners, online or offline.

Do not follow these guys who tell you they know the quick way to wealth. They are selling some kind of MLM thing or 2 tier program where you have to recruit a new batch of victims in order to make money. You will just have to trust me on this, stay away, it will only blow up in your face in the long run.


Mindset #4: Build a Deep Foundation

You have to invest in yourself and your business always learn and always add more value to your business.

Every improvement you make in your business multiplies your results. Have you thought about your front end offers? How about your back end offers? Are you building a list? Are you bonding with your list? Etc.

The idea of starting with the foundation ie. Traffic + Converting Offer = Sales. What can you bolt on to that to make it better? Maybe a newsletter or free report? Maybe offer additional related items? Maybe make your own product?



Mindset #5 Go Deeper, Not Wider

The biggest cost in any business is the cost of a new customer. That's why people are willing to pay you for sending them customers.

What are you doing to get a second sale from your customers? The fact is, if you are making money sending people to a CPA offer, imagine if you captured their email and could send them offers related to what they just bought.

What if you created an offer just like the one you are sending people to, and you could sell to them a second, third and fourth time? The cost of acquiring the customer would be $0.

The tendency is once you start making money in one market we try to add another and then another. If you get one market to work for you stay in that market and learn to maximize that market to it's highest potential.



Mindset #6 Passionate Markets

When you choose a market focus on finding a market that is insanely passionate. When you find people that have a real problem, there is no need to convince them that they need to find a solution. It is easy to show someone a solution and get them to buy.

The second thing about passionate people is, they are willing to try just about anything and to buy many different related things. They are serial buyers and many times they will keep buying until that need or problem is satisfied.

The three markets you should focus on, as new internet marketers, are Health, Wealth and Relationships. People will always be looking for diets or pain relief, always have some kind of money problem and will always be looking for or dealing with love & relationships.



Mindset #7: Stop Looking For Excuses and Focus On Results

Too many times I see people stop because they hit an obstacle or get stuck in one way of thinking. I too got stuck in a rut and went broke because of it.

Start small and look for someone in your market place who is successful. Copy what they are doing, right down to the last little detail. Then I want you to improve upon it. Test, test and test again, look to improve your results - always moving forward. Once you get something making you a $1. Focus even harder on it, set goals to make $100, $1000, $10,000 or more.

Keep bolting on new traffic tactics as you go along, social media, SEO, Paid SEO, PPC, CPV, media buys. Master each one of these traffic getting methods - one at a time. Start with the first traffic getting tactic and then move on to the next.

In summary, review these mindsets often in your business. Ask yourself are you falling into one of these traps? How can you make small changes to improve your marketing? How can you help more people? What can you offer people? How can you get people to consume more? Keep at it and put in the effort now and you will be reward over and over again later.
