If you are, or have ever been, in a position of responsibility within an organisation, you may have had to ask yourself the question: how do I motivate people? Sometimes I even come across forum posts asking: how do I motivate myself? If you have ever thought about this type of question, or contemplated the question yourself, you may have concluded that the subject of motivation, and how to go about to motivating people, is a funny old business.

In the One-Minute Manager, a classic by Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson, the authors state that motivation comes from within; and, that, I think, is absolutely true. We are all motivated by something and if you can't find the necessary drive to get off your backside and start putting in the appropriate amount of effort to ensure you to achieve your goals, then no amount of listening to motivational messages (perhaps, even this is a form of procrastination) will get you going. The bottom line is: if you can't motivate yourself, then nobody else can do it for you.

In the classics of New Thought, the thinking to which many people round here seem to subscribe - Think and Grow Rich, Science of Getting Rich, Master Key System etc - quite a lot is made of the importance of 'desire' in achieving goals. Well, desire, of course, is the root of motivation ...

Desire: 'the feeling that accompanies an unsatisfied state'
Motivation: 'the internal condition that activates behaviour and gives it direction'

You either want something or you don't. If you really want something, you have the necessary 'desire' and that is where the motivation to achieve that goal will come from. You want it badly enough to do 'whatever it takes' in order to achieve it.

Understanding your inner desires is an important key to achievement.

I have found that many business owners whether online or offline lack the ability to do this for themselves.

There will not always be someone to motivate you. You have to be able to motivate yourself (Self-Motivation) will carry you to success when all else fails.

I believe our desires change from time to time but self-motivation has to be a constant part of our arsenal all the time especially in this business.

Wouldn't it really make sense if there were classes for kids to learn how to control their brain at an early age?

I guess in a video game

      LOL
Search "making kids smarter" on Google and you will find my video game blog on page 1.....something I often wonder about when speaking to my sons...

There is some merit to what you say though. Being a single parent of 2 stubborn boys I tested all avenues trying to get them to understand the importance of education. Video games were one of these avenues.

Sometimes though it seems we push too much upon them. So much more to learn now days from when I was a kid....

Great post OP....I had my youngest read it

      cheers

Sometimes you think or you believe you can't find motivation...but most of the time is not for everything but one thing or a group of thing - tasks that seem too much...

In the same time, you could also meet an other people who have no motivation to do that or to do this...If you can at this moment talk to them, and explain with your words an other point of view...to motivate these people, it will give you more motivation for your own task or do lists...

Sometimes it seems to be more easy to motivate people than yourself - funniest part is that you know inside of you that you could do it for yourself - but procrastination seems to be the winner...

What is the best technics to use to motivate yourself or people? in fact there is no one best technics, but they need to feel that things are easy to do and fun to do with a lot of pleasure...

AS an elephant, you couldn't eat hil in one time - it's just too big - but if you cut this elephant in small piece - you could eat him in several times...

Exactly the same here - when a task seem too big to do it - we don't want to do it because it's not funny - a lot of work - but if you cut this task in small tasks easy to do and funny to do - you'll be the winner - Procrastination just the looser...
