Is There a Secret to Selling?

What's the secret to successful selling?

So are you trying to sell or are you trying to be successful?

I want to share with you some "No Brainers":
- If you watch the movie The Secret and think that everything you want will automatically come to you then you will be out-hustled by your competition if they are working towards their goal, instead of waiting for what they think they deserve.
- Being successful is not just about making a commission. Selling your product is just one step towards success.
- The mental and physical aspect of your life is vital to your success. You have to keep your head in the game and keep your body in shape to tackle your daily tasks.

This is the bottom line. Think of success as your mission. Then you will plan, prepare, and execute.

These are the elements of success:
Cleanliness is next to Godliness (keep your body clean) + Be Centered (find time for yourself) + Concentrate (don't let silly things distract you i.e. television) + Execution + Support Team + Passion= SUCCESS

- Maintain credibility and a good reputation.
- Put yourself out there consistently!
- Earn while you learn and be yourself.
- Build loyalty to your partners and your customers.
- Build your support team. A great team should have cheerleaders.
- Use your money on tools or assets that will bring you more income later.
- You have to have some swagger. If you are not confident, fake it until you make it. It works! Remember that you have been successful before.
- Learn from your successes! This may be a challenge since some people over celebrate their victories resulting in a vague memory of their prosperous journey to success. Take time to think about your mental attitude when you were successful.

Nice post. I think the key to selling is not trying to sell anything. Most people aren't stupid and will relaize when they are being sold on something. So I like to write articles and sales letters and stuff not as if I am trying to sell something but as if I am giving them information about this and simply letting them know about it. Let them make the decision.

The key to success is combining the concept of the Secret with taking action. You can think about what you want all you want, but with no action taken you will never accomplish anything.

It really depends on what you sell and on the audience. Trust is the most essential element most of the time. However, some audiences respond well to the hard sell "FREE GIFT," "BUY NOW," "LASTING ONLY 3 DAYS" - types of slogans.

You really need to do your homework on marketing, so some segmentation and take appropriate approach for each customer group.

Well the most important piece of marketing advice I ever got was "Be where your clients will be" If there is a group of people interested in say mustangs, join some car sites and offer a bunch of free stuff, or information, then sell something to them. They'll realize of course your selling something how ever if its something that people really want or even better.."need" They will buy it. Build it and they will come. ;-)

Kenny, I think you have it right.

I'm still new to this but there's one undeniable fact involved here that leads me, personally, to disagree with Arinal's opinion.(I'm not saying it's wrong; it just doesn't strike the right chord for me.)

Presenting your products through helping others has to help your conversion rate. If they end up looking at your product, your job is done. Let the rest take care of itself.

By doing this you attract more committed, decisive, and intelligent customers.
To me this has a little more meaning than what first comes to mind.

I feel this can work extremely well in some niches and not so well in others. Let me try to explain further without being obvious.

By attracting this group of people I feel it's easier to build loyalty. In other words, if your product does it's job; these customers will realize the QUALITY of your product over anything else. If you over deliver, they will always come back for more. They will be more willing to "intelligently" spend their money on other products.

By simply trying selling your products to your customers, you flat out lose this type of customer.

    Feedback? Thanks : )

Before you can sell a product you need to be able to sell yourself. you then align with a good quality product in demand and from that point you do not sell but rather facilitate the transaction of goods and or services.

I believe one the key secrets to selling is to build value into your offers; always overdeliver to potential customers expectations. This helps build long lasting relatonships with your customers.

There are some great comments here - I agree with just about all of them, especially the ones about being yourself and being able to sell yourself and being real about what you do and not trying to find a short road or trying to get a fast sale - Rome was not built overnight!

The secret to selling is to be genuine both in your explanation and wanting to help people solve a problem they may have.

You can't go into a sales pitch looking at it from the standpoint of "how can I get them to give me money" you have to look at in terms of how can you REALLY help the person in front of you?

When you have something of quality that you believe in people can see that... And when you truly come across as being genuinely interested in helping them and you REALLY believe in your products ability to help them - everything kind of falls into place.

Remember never to "sell" things but instead, to provide people with solutions to their problems that you genuinely care about solving.

Conceptually, I agree with this. But there is one important point that I have learned. I still have to ask for the sell. I can help people all day long, but if I don't promote my product and ask them to buy it, chances are that they won't.

Took me a while to learn this, but since I did, my sales have really gone up.

Yep, you beat me to it. Not only ask for it, but really inspire people to take the next step when you know you have the right choice for them.

If I cannot close a deal with a prospect where I know for an absolute fact that I have the right solution for them, I feel like I've let them down if they walk away without buying.

You don't have to back people into a corner to sell. You don't have to shove something down their throat until they can't say no. But, most people out there are going to need you to somehow inspire them to take action and then sooth their fears so that they understand they really have taken the correct action.

well yes... that's a key too lol - but asking for the sale in the right way... not begging. But when you've done things right asking for the sell should be as easy as "so how you paying for this today?"

Yes. Find people that are looking for you.
Also, don't sell, prescribe. Find out the problem, and provide a solution to it.

That is a very good post. I think it is important that when selling, the first thing to be noted by your customers should be that you are selling benefits. The main issue should not be about making a sale but it should be about the customers. By so doing you will ensure to keep them. All should be about building a long- term relationship and then you will keep on making more sales.

It takes skill, patience, and pracice selling without "Selling".

The idea is to be so valuble and persuasive in your talk that the natural
thing for your clients to do is to BUY from you. It's such an effortless
freak or nature that It scares me sometimes how easy it is to sell someone
on what I do, and what to pay me for it.

You have to be passionate about your product without a doubt or you'll
hate what you do, and your customers will hate what you have to offer.

The other key is to not be afriad to ASK for the sell. Someone said it here
already, but that's like talking a female, she's clearly intrested in you, and
yet you let it slip through your fingers at the last minute because you choked
up on asking for the number.

It's the same thing. When your exchanging a number successfully, and you
get a real one, it's because she see's alot of value in what you offer and
have already offered (confidence, ambition, great listener, humour...etc),so
she's BEGGING you to ASK her to close on the deal.

Works the same way in business.

And if you don't, your robbing the customer (or girl) the opportunity to do
business with you and continue to experinece the benefits of being around
you and buying from you. Your essentially stealing value away and making
them go "well, why didn't he just ask me for the sale already? Wow, I feel
cheated - because I wanted to give something back for what I just gave"

So yea, that's sorta my secret to selling lol, and It works just that way for
    me
