hi,
i m in the process of starting a website and dont know whether i should make it free or charge my users. should make it free to everyone at the beginning then convert to a fee model once i have a fair number of users? According to other entrepreneurs once you decided to charges 98% will leave? what do you guys think?

You could do both and have a free & paid section. Use the free to draw people in, and entice them with what new and shiny objects are behind the paid section.

I think what Jenness said is spot on.
Have a free section and a VIP members room type of thing.
Just make sure you give good value to the free customers. You'll make more sales that way

I'm a bit puzzled. Unless you are selling off your site or using it to generate leads, why have it free?

As for the 98% that leave, I would focus on the 2% that stay and use my marketing funnel to get them into higher priced products or programs, while building big loyalty with them.

Thats where the $ are, in your list that pay you. WOW them and they will stay, pay & refer.

Then I would look at reducing the 98% factor.
