I was reading an article in a business magazine a little while back about the importance of starting a business. Some people were stating that the most important thing is a business plan. They were adamant that without a good business plan you would fail.

However, there was one person that stated that the key to starting a good business is starting. They said that too many people focus on getting the business plan right and never starting the business.

I have to say I agree. The people that spend every waking moment working on a business plan are normally the people procrastinating. They have a great idea but they are afraid to start a business because they are afraid of what might happen.

The funny thing is, unless you are trying to get a bank loan, you don't need a business plan. All you need is a good set of goals.

You need to have goals that are well defined, achievable and measurable. When you have goals of such nature then you are more likely to achieve your goals.

You see a business plan is just a set of goal anyway. They are just your business goals.

But goals are not enough. You need to have determination, enthusiasm and confidence. You need to be able to pick yourself up when things don't go to plan, you need to be able to bounce back and learn from what went wrong.

But most of all you need to start your business. A business plan, goals, determination, enthusiasm and confidence are no match for experience. You need to get the experience of running the business.

No matter how good you are at everything else, there will always be something you didn't think of or plan for, and your fancy business plan is useless.

One sad fact that most people don't realise is that most first time business fail. This is normally due to lack of experience. In fact most of the richest people in the world have failed in business. All they did was learn what went wrong and start again.

You need to be aware that your first attempt at a business will probably go wrong. Its not a bad thing, just be aware. And if you know it might fail, then lower the cost of starting your business. Don't borrow hundreds of thousands and then wind up bankrupt.

So if you want to start a business, not matter what it is, start. Set your goals and start learning what the business teaches you. Don't waste your time thinking if only or one day. Do it now, lower your cost and take a chance.

I agree, as the saying goes... if you wait till conditions are perfect to start, then you will never start.

That's the only way to get results. Otherwise, you'll procrastinate, promising yourself that you'll start a business tomorrow. And after too much time passes, you'll fall into the coulda, woulda, shoulda thing.

Get past all of that and just start NOW.

      Thanks Chris.

I dont believe that in business or in life you need to get fancy. In fact the fancier you get the more problems you have.

I work under the K.I.S.S. motto (Keep It Simple Stupid). I think to many peopl feel that before they can be successful they need to have all the bells and whistles.

Even in traditional bricks and mortar businesses they are looking for the latest fads in selling. When all they need is good customer relationships.

As for the name, I'd like to say that I came up with it, but due credit must go to my brother. He came up with it over ten years ago.

I agree. I am the king of procrastination. If I get the oppertunity to not do work I will take it.

However, procratination is only a problem when you refuse to accept it as a problem. Once you can acknowledge a problem then you are half way to fixing.

I am working on a presentation for my business at the moment to take to a various people. I am itching to go, but I hate sitting in front of the computer. Yet the ides of being out there helping other businesses is motivation to keep me going.

If you waited until everything was just perfect before launching then you would never get launched, it seems like there's always one more little thing you need to do before you go for it.. Just go for it and handle as it comes

If you're talking a dirt world business, I'd say a business plan is a lot more important than say, starting an IM business. An IM business you can start on a shoestring. A dirtworld business, in most cases, is going to require more investment, perhaps significantly more investment.

That's why there's really no reason not to get started soon in the IM world. Study a bit so you have an idea of what to do, then just do it. You'll learn as you go. People who fear failure and put it off getting started month after month, even year after year for some, really should have a serious talk with themselves.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

Most of my successes have come after I started something and figured it out as I went.

If you get an idea or a flash of inspiration, get started with it now, learn as you go, and you will already be miles ahead of someone who is still thinking about whether or not to start.
