One Sentence Of Actionable Advice

A newbie comes to you and tells you he heard about this whole internet marketing thing and wanted to get in on it.

You only have 1 sentence to answer him/her with and it has to be actionable advice...what would you say?

I would tell him to be ready to work and to find a good mentor/coach that has made it online themselves.

Actually, it IS a sentence. A command in the imperative mode, where the subject {Newbie} is implied.

For example, a mother might (tersely) say to her lazy child: "Eat, brush teeth, go to bed!"

P.S. Don't mind me, it's just that sometimes, as a writer, I have this need to be grammatically correct. Professional reputation to maintain yada yada yada...

Anyways, that's my story and my "one sentence of actionable advice" and I'm sticking to it!

        "Master poets say

        Brevity is best."

          touche my friend, touche

and to think, the only thing I remember from 3rd grade english is that every sentence needs a noun. Knew I should have dropped out

          hehe

Hasan, thats not a sentence..hehe just joking

My turn, my sentence would be...

"You should go to warrior forum and learn a bit of background about all the different paths you can take within the IM industry, then pick a path you want to take, then use the search function to find posts on that topic, then go to search engines and look for blogs and other resources about that topic, and then work your butt off and take constant action, and that he/she will experience information overload at first and thats okay and that there will be many obstacles along the way that must be overcome and that each obstacle respresents an opportunity because many other people in a similar situation will quit at that obstacle and that you should always be looking to maximize the lifetime value of any prospect, that he/she should set up long term systems to automate income such as listbuilding, and that he/she shuold always provide value, no matter which IM direction you take, business is about finding where value can be created or monetized and then fulfilling that and that jumping around from system to system is not going to help at all and that focus and mastering one system will ensure success"

hehe, I didnt say it couldnt be a run on sentence

    Ok, then how about this:

"Dear Newbie ~ go to Warrior Forum for a free IM education; however, just remember that old saying about opinions and @#$holes."

    Or, this:

"Dear Newbie ~ beware of phrase fragments and run-on sentences."

ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND HAVE A LEAP OF FAITH.

Leap of Faith is the thing that got Jeff W. to make $10000 in a week, John R. to make a million in a day and Frank Kern to make 23.8 million.

Touche my friend. Take the leap if you have drive and passion. If it doesn't work out, take another leap.

I like TailRunner's version, with one minor edit...

Just Do It, Learn, Then Study

A high percentage of all people are stuck on Study and Learn, and never get to "Just Do It".

If you start doing it, learn from your mistakes, then study to expand your knowledge so you make less mistakes, you will be miles ahead of the person who is sitting and reading the next great ebook.

You are absolutely correct. Thats why my biggest advice for newbies is always to jsut start messing around and doing stuff. You will stink when you first start and that is completely fine. If you try and perfect your knowledge before taking action, you will become a catatonic moneyless fool. If you take constant action and gain knowledge as you do, you will be a money-full fool.

    I would say this:

"You will only succeed in Internet Marketing if you are a DOER and a FINISHER".

In other words, you always take action and you always finish anything you start.

Obviously there's more to it than that but I would rate these two qualities as the most important.

I am relatively new and my sentence would be:

"Come with me and together we shall walk."

Then I would show him all that I know and where to find it and how to research it, etc, etc, etc.

Just imagine the good reviews and extra paying customers you could have if a marketer took on one eager newbie a year and showed them what to do.

That is not a dig at anyone but wow what a tool for word of mouth marketing also called viral marketing. Do one a month and well guys you do the maths.

That is why I chose my sentence as I did.

I would tell this newbie like this:

Just be prepared of information overload because you'll highly get into that in less time so once you've seen your best choice (mentor, course, report, etc), stick with it, utilize its information and then start building a business using it within your expertise -- good luck!

I would ask how much money do they have to invest, how much time do they have, and, so forth. I am a believer in leverage because learning how to do stuff yourself is a pain in the a**.

I have learned alot, and, I wish I didn't know, so, much, but, had the resources to shoot like a rocket instead.

In short: If the noob got money my sentence would be, "pay me to get you some income".

If they don't have money, I would tell them, "to come here and good luck with your learning curve".
