I have been doing some experimenting with NLP lately and really liked the results. I was wondering if any of you have any experience with it? If so, do you have any recommendations to check out?

At first I wasn't too sure about the whole process, but the more I look into it the more I think it works wonders.

    Hey Raygun,
there really is a lot of stuff out there. What have you been looking at?

Obviously the first one that comes to mind is Tony Robbins - a very interesting guy. Check out his training blog (sorry can't post links yet)

You don't need to go for his more expensive products straight away, his books like Unlimited Power and Unleash The Giant Within are very cheap and amazing resources.

Another interesting one I found by a New Zealand guy is "The Winner's Bible: Rewire Your Brain For Permanent Change" by Kerry Spackman, check out his website as well - it's a little different to more traditional NLP and he focuses more on your limbic (emotional) system.

For me it's a little tricky, because a lot of NLP is amazingly and immediately useful but as a strong believer in Christ and pure Christianity (by the Bible) I personally believe that we need to do things in God's power - and not just our own.

    - But obviously this is applied with common sense, so that I see absolutely nothing wrong using different techniques as long as (for me) they aren't replacing Godly wisdom or spiritually with my own.

Anyways, each to his own. Be interested to hear what stuff you've been reading into and the results you've had.

    Thanks

Raygun, would you mind sharing what you've been using? This something I've been meaning to look into more.

Just when you think you've got it all figured out, someone changes the rules.

I had amazing results using various NLP patterns. It literally brought me out of a deep depression... or more accurately, it guided me to bring myself out.

    Powerful stuff.

Ive also been meaning to try out nlp and ive seen a lot of reviews about how great it is, but ive been sceptical as to using it because it seems so out-of-the-ordinary when you first use it.

I guess a question from my side would be after how long (on average) will someone see good results from applying nlp and even better is:is there a point where you dont need to use it anymore and youve become 'that' person you want to be,

in other words-where you say: i dont need it anymore, and you just stop doing it..
Or is it something you need to keep on doing non stop.

The thing about NLP is that if you believe in the process and really apply the principles the change you are looking for happens instantly. That said, I don't know if you can ever really "that" person you want to be without a continual process to keep you on track. There will always be outside influences trying to undo your transformation. Tony Robbins actually has actually tweaked the NLP process into what he calls Neuro-Associative Conditioning or NAC. His process takes NLP a step further and gives the tools to keep you from slipping into old habits. Check it out.

Some of the patterns I have used, I didn't feel all that different immediately after doing them apart from being a little more positive. But over the next few days, I found they had a compounding effect.

You don't need to go back to the NLP practitioner for top ups, generally they will give you little exercises/patterns you can use on your own for those times when you need an immediate boost.

I'd highly recommend it. It's not hypnosis, but it helps you access and implement the best possible version of yourself.

I entirely disagree...NLP's underlying process is restructuring...if you restructuring subtly then the changes will be subtle. The key in NLP is to find different combinations to restructure your brain with.

You could chisel at a wall for weeks...or you can get a bulldozer

I'm not saying NLP is a magic pill...just a very useful tool

    Hey Raygun,

As an NLP Master Prac and coach I love using in different contexts..

there are lots of definitions and ideas about what NLP stands for

the one that works nicely for me is the following:

"NLP stands for a collection of ideas and models that will allow you to better understand and influence how people think, feel and behave; and it all begins with YOU"

So I wonder where or what do you want to use it for?

    Marketing (ie: better copywriting)
    knowing how people tick
    self improvement
    coaching - helping others?
    ...

    Have fun

What if he said all of the above? Because that's exactly why I want to learn NLP...to understand how people tick, then in using it to help others through self improvement...of course it would do no good if you didn't know how to market!

And Bart...I'm close to getting there...I'm engaged in whole thinking currently and I've been releasing quite well....I'm going to be focused strictly on emotional ventures for the next week or two

I basically want to use it for overall self improvement and to become as productive as possible. This might be in the wrong form, but I noticed with some of the mindset in shifts when it comes to going to the bar I did way better with women. I literally shifted from the person pursuing to the person being pursued. Kind of crazy.

Do a search for NLP training or certification in your area. My friend Matt Brauning used to teach NLP and Hypnosis. We also worked alot with Tony Robbins. Tony is a master. For entertainment check out Derren Brown.

NLP is fascinating and works, but there is an incredible amount of bull*** aspects of it and some dodgy characters making money out of it. It was something I was heavily involved in in my "real life" career, and the visualisation and reframing stuff for example really can help people.

Raygun, I'm a Master NLP practitioner and hypnotherapist....what are you trying to accomplish with it?
Like Napoleon Hill said, if someone wants to be successful, they should learn self hypnosis....because we ALL have bad programming. Nlp is just a quicker method for some things.
Our bad programming works like a virus on a computer, it runs in the back ground and slows you down, sabotages you etc... but your subconscious THINKS it's helping or protecting you.................... STEVEN G

Thanks for posting Steve, is there any books or video's that you recommend to get the best results? As I stated before, I would like something to keep me energized and focused to be in the mindset of being the top IM'er on the planet.
