Creating Inspiration in Your Life

If motivation is just about setting goals and moving towards them, why do so many people fail to achieve their dreams? The simple answer is that they do not have the commitment or the inspiration to follow through on their plans. They rush out in the first week full of gusto, but a week later, maybe two, they have lost all inspiration and have quit. So how do we find that inspiration?

Why can a woman that has been over weight all of her life, lose that entire weight do that she can look good for just one day, her wedding day? Because she has inspiration and commitment. To her it is so important to look her best on her weeding day that she will get up early every morning and exercise, undertake a strict diet regime on food and she will do this every day right up to the special day.

What keeps her going and not wanting to quit. She has created a feeling in her mind of how she will feel if she manages to lose that weight and look good. She has thought about this, and continues to think about this everyday up to the wedding. That great feeling of looking beautiful for all her friends', family and husband to be is real inspiration. Not only that, she has also though about how it will feel to not achieve her goal. To be fat and overweight, not looking like she wants and being a disappointment to everybody. That is also great inspiration.

In her mind she now has a feeling that is pulling her towards her goals, and a feeling that is pushing her towards her goals. This is the push/pull effect and it works time and time again.

In our lives we will do very little to move or change our lives when we feel very comfortable with it. We would like to take action to get to a more comfortable spot, but things are fine here so why change? It is only when we feel uncomfortable that we take actions to change. This is a reactionary measure and it does not show much motivation.

To be motivated and to have inspiration and commitment, we need to create that push/pull effect in our lives whenever we want so that we can achieve our dreams. The easiest way to do that is to that about what our lives will be if we do not take action to achieve our goals. Where will we be in 1 year, 5, 10, 15 20 years if we do not do anything to move forward in our lives? Will you be happy or upset that you have never achieved the things you set out to get?

That is the push part. Trying to make you uncomfortable and get moving.

The next part is to think about where you will be in 1year, 5, 10, 15, 20 years if we do take action. Will you have everything you ever wanted? Will you be travelling the world and having a great life? Will you have the life you always wanted with the people you want to be with? Will you be living your dreams?

This is the pull. Moving away from your uncomfortable world and moving towards a more comfortable one.

I use this push/pull method on daily basis. I have created the strong feelings of success and failure in my mind and use them to motivate me every day. It's why I push myself to run, or do weights daily. It's why I will do what I have to do no matter how hard it gets or how much I feel like slacking off. And it is what separates the want-to-be's from the people-who-are.

When you can really make yourself feel the pain of failing and the pleasure of succeeding, you will be more inspired. You will be able to push through the negative thoughts that hold you back, have more commitment and being willing to do what it takes, when ever its needs, for how long you have to do it.

I would like to help you create the push/pull feeling in your mind so that you can start moving towards your dreams. Over at

I have a recording that will help to create that the push/pull effects. It's free for you to listen to with absolutely no catches and I hope it helps to inspire you.

    Interesting post, Terry.

I like how you related business/financial goals with weight loss - because it makes perfect sense.

I'm what you'd call a fitness nut myself - and I use a similar line of thinking in my online efforts.

Weight loss isn't on my goals sheet, but I've made fitness and working out such a habit for me that I just don't FEEL right if I don't do something every day.

I've done the same thing with IM -- making my actions a habit. It's one of the best habits to get into.

    Nice post!

I was never a fitness freak myself, however, now that I am running, doing weights (for tone, not massive muscles) and losing some fat I am enjoying it.

Plus every day I run I go a little further and just keep building it up. In fact I will have to go for a run in about 2 hours.

I love the exercise. It gets me thinking and more motivated. Plus it builds confidence.

There are so many benifts. And I will follow through and I will committ everyday. The idea of not doing it is more painful than actually doing it.

I like the post. I agree. I think that people don't change unless they see that the consequences of not changing out weigh the action of changing.

With your example, normally working out, in her mind out weighs her weight problem. (She dislikes working out more than she dislikes being overweight) BUT, when you bring the wedding into the picture, Now, Being overweight out weighs working out and she is willing to take action.

Very good point, the female wedding analogy is a great one. The tough part is finding that one reason of inspiration and making it so important in our lives that we can overcome temptations and proceed with the method you describe.

It is crazy important for that inspiration to be with us every second of the day. Like a female getting in shape for her wedding day, I'm sure there isn't a 10 minute stretch that goes by that she forgets about her wedding. If our goal is to lose weight or whatever, we need to ingrain that inspiration in our minds all the time. The inspiration needs to follow us around all the time, at least for the initial week, month, year to get over the initial temptation hurdles...generally the hardest.

Well said. I often see people take up a form of exercise because they see a bad picture of themselves, or someone has said something. They go hard for the first three weeks then quit. Half the time is because they dont see instant results, and the other half is because it gets to hard, or it rains, or what ever other excuse they can come up with.

Its the same with business, especially in this industry. With so many people saying that you can make a fortune in just s few hours, people new to the business get jaded very quickly when they dont make the millions in just a few days.

They lose their inspiration and move on to some other get rich quick scheme. However with committment and willingness to learn, that same person sould be quite successful at IM.

It can be hard to actually get people to change. Most people fear change as it brings an unknown into their lives. People like to feel comfortable, and as you say, they wont change unless they are forced to do it.

The thing about successful people is that they force change upon themselves. They look for the new and different and take it on baord. They often think to themselves, "what will happen if I dont do this", and "what will happen if I do do this?"

Thats where we all need to be. Ready, willing and looking for change. Creating reasons to move forward and being the person that we want to be.

Its great to be focused, just make sure that you take a break. Other wise you will burn out. Inspiration is great and pushes us, but to hard to fast and we all burn out.

You will be successful, just make sure you keep going and keep following through.

Most of the population on the planet are happy to live in the comfort zone but those same people also complain about not achieving any goals either,i have for many years always had some small business venture going this was to provide a few extra luxeries in life but i still held down that regular 9-5 job but nearly 4 years ago i lost my job after the company relocated so i was in theory on the scrapheap but after speaking with my wife about my passion of working for myself full time i went for it.

Its be an exciting journey to say the least and at one time my wife almost had enough but as the money then started too flow back into the bank account rather than the other way around things started to change i am at the stage that my revenue is much higher that before and i am much happier in myself.

These days i am not afraid to take big steps forward and take more risks which i feel you have to take if you want to achieve those big goals in life that you always wanted.
