Wonderful video Mario, and you get right to the point with such conviction. I'm grateful for you sharing this priceless info. Mostly just common sense, but sometimes we do need a wake up call so we can realize just how easy it is to cut out the distractions that prevent us from progressing.

    Nice work!

Good video! Although my distractions aren't really Twitter, Facebook, Emails. My distraction is mainly self-doubt. I'm always worried that things won't work out, that my work will go to waste, that my product will not sell, etc.
Sometimes while I'm writing, I just stop and think "Am I wasting my time? Will anybody even be interested in this? Will I even sell any copies of this?"
Self doubt is killing my big dreams! But what keeps me going are the stories of others who are doing well.

I used to be like that until I realized that I was causing my own failure with self-doubt. You manifest your thoughts and words are more powerful than people understand. I stopped saying, "I cant," and started saying, "I will succeed","I will make","I can do this."

When I started doing this doors that wouldn't open started to open for me. Thuoght manifestation is very real....

      Hi Hanz.

I have two antidotes for self doubt for you.

      1. To answer the question about whether people really want to read what you're writing, do your due diligence on your market research! If there are enough folks talking about your topic on forums, blogs, web 2.0 sites etc - they're gonna read what you have to say!

      2. Stop worrying about whether you'll sell stuff. This is the crazy part of IM. Give things - information, humour, your own twist - that people enjoy and find valuable and they'll WANT to buy from you. You have to be the brand - which means being yourself. Write about stuff that interests you, makes you laugh etc ... and get liked.

      Simple!

A final thought ... why not blog, (or Facebook or Tweet or whatever you do) about your journey through overcoming self doubt? You're not the only one you know! You'll get a ton of folks following your story!

      Hope that helps,
      Trevor.

basically sums up what it says in your sig "stop wishing start doing", and in order to start doing you must learn to turn off distractions (eg email, twitter, facebook), don't allow yourself to get overwhelmed, focus more, start selling SOMETHING if you want to have any level of success, of course there's more to the video than that but those are a few points

Great video Mario, very nice of you to reach out to the newbies. He is right!! It is really easy to get distracted. I am working on getting more focused and doing the things I have been taught. I think the problem is most newbies expect to make money fast because the product they bought told them how much they could make and fast. The problem with most products is, you won't make money as fast as they say you will as a newbie. Then when the newbie doesn't make money fast with that product they buy another and another. Like Mario said stop buying and do what you are taught from these big markters who know how to make money. You just have to wait a little bit and it will happen. Your hard work will pay off, just not over night. That is the hard part that I had to learn when I first started. I joined GDI. I thought I only have to get 5 people and then my people only have to get 5 and so on and so and I can make over $3000 a month or more well hey that sounds so easy I can do that. Well guess what I got 10 people and they only got 1 or 2 and it failed, plus I had no idea how to market then lol. I went on to another product and so on. Now I am here 6 years later finally getting work done and I have stopped messing around. Am I making a lot of money? Not a lot, but soon all of my hard work that has to be done and that I am doing will pay off if I stick to it. I am in it for the long haul and am not quiting or am I buying anymore products. Thanks again Mario for making the video.

    Great advice.

I have an email account dedicated to all of the bad email marketers who offer me free reports, so that they can't bog down my main email.

Also having a time to get things done that has helped me so MUCH! I shut down facebook, email, everything. I'm developing my own product right now. Everyday before I go to bed I start writing at 2:30 am and stop at 4:30 am. I have my browser open only to search for technical terms needed for what I'm working on. AND THAT'S IT!

Absolutely right...! Spot on! Its a question of, as you say:
    1. Stopping buying other marketers products. You don't have time to implement them all.
    2. Take action for yourself. Create a product. Set-up a squeeze page and start getting leads.
    3. Build a relationship with your list. Its not that difficult.

I was into Affiliate Marketing but I totally stopped that. It was making me money but the most money and satisfaction came from creating products. Following the 80/20 rule I stopped affiliate marketing and now I'm only focusing on product creation and list building, goes together quite well.

Great post mario. I just watched your video and I had to laugh. I said the exact same thing in a post about a day or two ago. You are so right. I tell people that they need to find 1 or 2 people to pattern themselves after. someone that provides real world value not just someone who sends out promotion after promotion after promotion. I'm glad you feel the same way I do.

I think one misconception about internet marketing is that it will make you rick quick. Get rich quick schemes are usually very suspicious. Network marketing is different. It will help you earn extra income if you actually sell the products successfully and a little extra more if the people you've taken under your wing generate sales as well. If you have excellent sales and PR skills, you might be able to earn a lot more but selling is difficult, doubly so if the product is new to the market.

That is such great advice, keep it basic right! I think is is important to be a better marketer than the next guy!

If you find yourself in information over load shut down and wake away from your computer.

If you have had success in the past FOCUS ON THAT SUCCESS..
Dig deeper into why it is successful and make it more successful.
Work on creating high value low cost products that people will love and treat your customers like your best friends!

Become a giver and work on improving peoples lives not just making money..

Things that I am focusing On in 2011

      Focus On What Works
HIGH VALUE PRODUCT's Small Price HIGH VALUE!
Be Different Than Everyone Else in some way
Stay focused and dig deeper into what works
Focus on getting new customers and keeping old ones happy..
Make backend products that complement the front end and focus on the perfect sales funnel.
Make things more automated and outsource your weak parts of company

That is just what I am doing, but Mario is right. You have to stop buying and start selling..

        Hey Jason,

You're making some great points here, thanks for sharing.

Staying to what is working is really important, I call it 'leveraging success'.

And even if one starts out from scratch, focus on only one method and go hard until you see results!

    Great advice Mario!
The unsubscribe button has become my best friend over the last couple of weeks. One should always ask themselves when working "Is what I am doing now going to make me money, or can I systematize it and outsource it."

I can't tell you the years I've wasted amassing ebooks, complex folder structures of learning material/resources, getting distracted with "guru" emails. What is worse is when you have spent all this time planning and are *just* about ready to take action, and then a guru then contradicts the method you were going to use. This sends you on a wild goose chase looking for the "right" answer that could take weeks or months of your time.....never again.

Focus and take action on your money making activities, turn off the cell phone, email and all distractions and see how things progress.

    Hey Mario,

Thanks a lot for this video. Strange what happened today before I saw your video---that I came to this conclusion by myself. I finally started to work on my own internet business. I stopped looking at my emails and took the first step to making money online. I felt a profound change in my psyche. After buying many of the "gurus" products, I felt completely burned out and knew that I had to turn my attention to myself and to my own financial success. Then I saw your video, and it just reinforced what I've known for a while.

Thank you so much for your help and caring about other people.

Mario , very well said. Distractions have been a block to Focus. With Kids, Dogs, Loud TV , just shut it all out. I like what you mentioned about getting off mailing list. I've been Marketing online since 2002 and have too eventually change email addresses. I use a new one for each Domain I setup.

More important was quit taking in more info when we have not applied a small percent of what we have in front of Us.

Even with some Success it's east to get into buying products and not FOCUS on Marketing Products and Services.

GREAT VIDEO and great points all throughout. It's way too easy to get distracted by the next shiny object on the internet. Constantly bouncing from different methods in hopes of that magic button that will just print money. The only answer to anyone saying they aren't making any money online is "Take Action"

I agree about unsubscribing from certain marketer's lists. Here is my method when it comes to deciding on whether to stay on someone's list if it helps anyone out.

    1. Is this person providing me any real value or sound business advice? Or is he/she just constantly shoving products and affiliate offers up my a**? If so, unsubscribe button I go.
    2. Does this person seem like they really care about my success? You can usually tell by the emails that they send if someone really values their subscribers and doesn't just look at them as a number. A new offer every other day is a good hint that I should unsubscribe.

However, there are marketers you should stay subscribed to as well. You should keep subscribed to those who send you free tips, tricks or something they just discovered that may help you.

Also stay subscribed to those who's "Style" you like and can model your own success after. Use the emails they send you as a way to learn how to talk to your own subscribers. As well as how to treat them. I'm going to be honest, there are a few marketers that I really like although I shouldn't name names as I don't want them to know and think I'm a weirdo...but I practically "stalk" them. lol Constantly checking on what posts they are making, how they write their emails, what products they are creating, how are they profiting from these products etc.

Of course they are going to send you offers to their own products eventually. When that time comes, dont be so fast on the buy now button. Sit back and think: "Is this going to help me go further on what I am working on now? Can I really use this in my current business plan and will it help me with my goals?"...If so, buy the product by all means. Or is it "Just a shiny object with a crafty sales letter and empty promises?"

The key to becoming a success in IM is plain and simple, find someone who is a success, study their every move and model your business plan on theirs....then take action. It's hard to fail if you DUPLICATE someone else's success...just don't steal their work!

And lastly, I only stay subscribed to someone if they have nice hair. Preferably a blonde wavy hair style.
(I was kidding about that last part)

Stick to no more than 3 gurus and work their training to the end. Then put up at site with a buy button on it,don't wait until it's perfect ,get it out there NOW.Unsubscribe to all those lists.I know you delete their emails without even reading the first line.Mike Dillard wants you off his list if you don't buy.Well do that!

I'm always on the lookout for the latest greatest product that will make me 10 000$ a month and I'm no closer to that goal now than I was then.

It all comes down to the actions we take. I will take action starting now so thank you Mario for that much needed wake up call.

    Hi Mario,

Great video, Frank Kern said the samething not too long ago. He said, stop buying my stuff and implement what you have. Eban Pagen teaches to work in blocks of time. 60 min block then take a 15 min break.

One other technique that I use came from Mike Dillard. It is simply this, write down the 5 things you will accomplish in your business the next day and do it in your 60 min block of time. It works! Thanks for the video I appreciate the effort in trying to help new internet marketers out.

    Great video Mario! Powerful

Here I am wondering if I'm spending too much time on forums... but it is such a great giant master mind!

    So here's a good question:

How much time DO you spend on this forum in any given day?
Hours or minutes? Do you browse and learn aimlessly, do you search for specific answer, or do you just post your question and get to work?

I spend 30 minutes in the forum and in this time I try to be productive, answer pm's, take care of my WSO's, help somebody out or look for an answer to a problem that I have.

When I'm done with all the tasks that I had for the day, I might get back to the forum and just hang out for another 30 minutes, but I always try not to spend more than 60 minutes in the forum.

      Cheers,

    Mario,

good stuff and powerful advice. Probably the toughest thing is getting newbies to actually do what you are saying. Newbies hear great advice like this all the time, but most still end up doing the same buying buying, jumping around, jumping around even though they know deep down they arent going to get ahead by doing that.

That was an excellent video. This happened to me when I was a complete noob and kept getting sucked into other peoples sales letters because I didn't know any better.

To expand on his idea of the 80/20 time management I would like to sum up what Brian Tracy said in a recent audio I listened to.

80% of the effort in your business will give you the 20% of the results. When that is done, 20% of the effort will create 80% of the results.

The first steps are always the hardest.

Here is my Wake Up Call:

What is your take on this?

    To your success,

    Mario Brown
    Hi Mario,

Like you, I wish somebody had told me this a year ago as well! Your video brilliantly drives home an absolute must for anyone staring out in IM.

I do. however, believe that my experiences haven't all been a complete waste of time and money: just most of them.

I first decided to look into IM some 18 months ago after seeing a promotion from one of the UK's 'biggies' and invested in his system, which was extensive and sound, but also expensive. Circumstances prevented me from progressing this for some 11 months, but when I picked it up again, I very quickly also got involved in subscribing to first this and then that, some paid for and some free (that's a joke!) until before I knew what had happened, I was suffering from information overload, e-mail overload, subscription overload and getting absolutely no-where.

I found it near impossible to find time to work on just the first project!

The big "but" here is that amongst all that great mountain of information that I looked at for some 6 months, I actually found great worth insofar as it taught me a lot about what not to do. There was so much junk, so many people trying to tell me different ways of doing the same thing, and so much of it so badly presented. I made a first and totally useless attempt at selling on my first website as a result of trying to combine too much from too many so-called 'gurus'.

But I learned a lot about the right and wrong ways of presenting information and about how to present myself.

I also discovered that there are a few, and only a few, genuine people who really try to help get you going.

So about 2 months ago, I started firstly to unsubscribe from all the junk, secondly to determine just one single route to follow and I am now concentrating on just one project from one very good, helpful and expert source.

As a result I am now just at the point of launchingmy next website in conjunction with those experts.

This move has cost me money I was previously reluctant to pay out for, but I now realize that had I done this six months ago, I would not have needed to spend out on all the other stuff that I bought!

Once I have had the experience of that first successful launch, I will be able to move on rapidly and use some of that mountain of product I have accumulated during the previous 6 months. I will certainly do this before I purchase much more and I recognise the need to be very selective on what else I look at in future.

So, Mario, full marks for the drive your video conveys, but I also strongly believe it is probably good experience to have made the mistakes so we understand just how much we all need that drive you so very forcibly put across.

    Regards,

    Richard.

      Yep.

Man there is a lot of stuff that they don't teach at school, and I honestly wonder why. I mean why don't they teach kids how to save money, or more importantly how to take advantage of compounding, or why they don't have an 'investment' or a 'handling money' class?

Is it a conspiracy, so that the money stays where it is right now? . Okay I wouldn't go that far but I truly hope that they will start to teach new stuff at school. Things like how to handle money so that people stay out of debt, self-improvement and self-encouragement, how to set goals and so forth.

      Cheers,
      Mario

  • Great advice, in-action is the biggest killer of internet marketers. I'm sure we have all been there before with this. Too much information leads to information overload, causing you to freeze up and not do anything. Find a method that sounds good to you, stop reading everything else, and give that your 100% all. If not you will not accomplish anything, or at the very least not accomplish much. Also mario too many irons in the fire as well is a very bad thing, If, and I say IF you do not already have one method going strong already. I see this day after day not only on the forums but from several affiliates under me. It is very sad and disheartening to see, however until the new kids to internet marketing see what is going on they will continue to be in that dark pit.

    Cool video man!

I knew this before watching but it was a pleasant reminder... and that's not jumping from one program to the next ALL THE TIME.

That has definately been by biggest road block for so long. And for too long I didn't even know it.

I'm sticking to one method that others have managed to make work for them, and i've decided i'm not doing anything else until i've made money with this program.

I've actually become a seller now...

    Good post! =)

    Hi Mario, love the passion!

You're spot on. I am a newbie and have been for over a year! Sounds ridiculous but I did exactly what you are saying not to do. I was looking for the next best thing which was going to make me money. Did I find it - NO! Did it take up loads of my time - YES!!

I have now unsubscribed from many of the "guru" email lists and concentrate on only two or three IM's who's info can help me push my (part time) business forward.

I concentrate on working on my business now. I am only two months in and still tweaking, I know I'll get there. I'm selling and marketing other peoples products at the moment but my own products will be coming soon.

I wish I had seen this video a year ago. It would have saved me so much time and focused my mind rather than getting distracted.

    All the best,
    Mike.

Newbies, Mario is right. Stop going after shiny objects. You need to start selling instead of buying! lol!

The only things I'd recommend putting your money into are things that will actually help expand your business such as tools, outsourcings, etc. Courses are good too, but stick with one, test it out before you invest in another. You have to plan your daily goals and simply take ACTION

There are too many things try to get to us. We need to hold ourself back and slow down. Then really think about what do we really want. Why we want to be an internet markete? What being a marketer allow us to do? How serious are we, what plan we have etc. Jumping from one thing to another never works.

    Hey Mario, spot on dude--
not only is this concept critical in our internet or offline business,
it goes for the rest of our lives as well-- our business is simply a reflection of the way we think about our life and it's value.
If we are going to succeed and excel at anything in life,
there is no more effective method than to stop consuming and start producing.

    This comes from Peter Drucker--
Follow effective action with quiet reflection. From the quiet reflection will come even more effective action.”

I like Seth Godin's phrase from his "Brainwashed" manifesto--"ship"
Weather it's goods or services we get paid when we ship.
Gotta get back to the shipping department,
    DL

twitter, facebook, myspace, chatting & socializing, spending too much time on here on the warriorforum, porn (haha), talking on the cellphone, texting, TV on in the backround, checking emails excessively = not being productive and not getting work done, etc. It's all about focus and concentration.

    Hi Mario

Your absolutely right. Information overload was a frustration for me for 4 years. Consuming so much information and promises from the so called GURUS.Well after all this wandering around in the Cyberspace wilderness for these years I had gain a lot of information and decided that I needed to get down to basics.

    1. Concentrate on ONE programme at a time until you are making some money, then go onto the next project.
    2. Unsubscribe all emails from your inbox and only accept emails relating to your first project. Too many emails is another distraction and a thief of time. There is no time looking at too many emails.

Good simple message Mario. I certainly have been distracted over the years and bought many products! One thing though, what I was doing was looking for the right direction and way to do things. Sometimes you choose the wrong mentor, and things don't go well enough, so you look for another! I have found some good teachers, and bad ones, and also some even better teachers! You don't always find the right product or direction straight away, something which suits you. And you learn along the way, with everything that you do.

So, perhaps it is not a waste of time, but hopefully you find a really good way to make money, do the work, and stick to it.

I agree, need to focus on making sales!!! Need to remind myself of that, and keep doing the work required!

    Thanks

You may or may not know about the weather the UK is having at the moment but a few days ago due to the build up of snow on my roof the coax cable to my "brainwashing box" (tv) is snapped! After a day or so I don't even miss the tv so as you said I started to waste more time on fb I quickly realised that my time was being wasted so I have now removed games like mob wars etc. My productivity has started to improve already, next step is to unsubscribe to most of my emails. There you go, that's exactly what I'm talking about.

Consuming information is okay but you have to strictly limit your time.

Once you implement, you'll see results - you gain experience and you'll get smarter along the way.

True! The internet is like ADHD on steroids. People , me included will be doing 10 things at once. I have had to train myself to just STOP IT!! The best thing I did was to unsubscribe to all the email lists and get rid of all the junk mail or 90% of it and to quit buying junk products that didnt work. "Just say no." think before you spend. I heard a very wealthy man say one day that before spending any money he would always think about it, even if it was a small purchase. He did not do any compulsive buying at all and he had saved a ton of money by doing that. So I implemented that and several other things and wow what a difference!

    Great advise, enjoyed it!

    Mario,
Thank you SO MUCH for just telling it like it is. I'm guilty of distractions myself!

Your idea of the "Power Sessions" of approx 60 minutes each is excellent - and so totally doable. Let's face it. Surely we can commit to even 60 minutes of laser-focus on our work. If not, well... maybe we should rethink what we're doing for work.

I love your style. Thanks for the "nudge!"

Took action tonight and unsubscribed to at least 10 lists that were clogging my main inbox. I still have a side email account that I use to download ebooks. In my main email address, tonight I deleted at least 5000 emails. I will go through more tomorrow morning! Thanks for the inspiration and the good kick in the ass!

I just came across this video and I have to say it's great. Every new person to IM or any work at home business needs to see this and get their butt moving on doing things that actually make them money. I think a lot of people are tricking themselves into thinking that learning is part of the tasks that need to be done in order to make money but if you spend a year buying and reading you will have just wasted a year that you could have been doing, and possibly failing but also likely succeeding. Don't get so caught up in thinking about it! Just go out and do things, know that sometimes it wont work out how you had planned but many times that is because it worked out waay better.

In the words of Dale Carnegie "If you want to conquer fear, don't sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy."

I know this video was posted over a year ago, but thanks so much for posting it! I'm sure there are newbies joining this forum every day, so this will be perfect timing for them. Your passion about the topic definitely shows. You are so right about the distractions and how easy it is to get overwhelmed by all the information, especially for newbies like myself. I spend way too much time searching for information that will help me learn enough to get started. So many people say pick one person to follow, but finding that one person can be a daunting task--one that I have yet to accomplish. I did unsubscribe from almost all of the emails that were coming in, so at least I accomplished something good. They were pretty much just a bunch of constant sales pitches anyway, so I didn't lose anything. Finding a list to join that provides useful tips and helpful information in addition to the sales pitches has been difficult for me too. Fortunately, I don't let things like Facebook, Twitter, etc... distract me, though an occasional TV show does catch my attention. Anyway, thanks again for caring enough to say something that most Internet marketers don't want people to hear, especially newbies.

Thx Mario ... This is sooooo true.

The simple problem with everything is ... and I know it because I'm in the exact same situation right now ... where to start and with which method?
Maybe something better and easier is coming ... maybe this WSO is better and easier to implement .... That's my problem right now.

Maybe you can help me out with that

    Regards,

    WOW! powerful message Mario.

I keep getting distracted and buying product after product simply because I don't feel I know enough yet to get started, but watching your video and the fact that I've been in learning mode for over 2 years make it clear that I'm simply not taking action and the problem is not knowledge per se as if I think about it deeply enough I have all the knowledge I need to start making money! I really have to stop buying and start selling. Thanks for your message!

Hey Mario I have to say thanks for that. It truly was an eye opener. I get so pissed at myself at the end of the day because I didn't get 10% of what I wanted to do because I'm too busy checking my emails and making sure I'm not missing anything when actually I'm missing everything. I'm missing out on getting my things done.
I am going and unsubscribing from most of the emails I get right now and will go through my emails once a day for 15 minutes and that's it. I'm done with this craziness and will be getting things done.
I am at the end of my rope living paycheck to paycheck when I know I'm better than that. I know I can do this, and I will.
Again thanks for the wake up call. One thing for sure is that I have a list of 7 people who I will not unsubscribe from and your one of them. But I will only skim whatever comes to me and quit buying as I have everything I need to become a success.
You hit a nerve this time and I owe you big time for this.

Yes awesome thank you. I think having a mentor can really push you up faster to stardom. I would sell all of my products and build relationship with my list. One list only and not multiple. It's something I was wondering when I first start doing IM stuffs. Have your own products and sell on the warrior special forum and it will teach you alot. But I think keep buying products because perhaps one of the persons you buy from may turn out to be your mentor.

Mario, thank you! I am new, very new, like 10 minutes ago. The great thing is I already have a service to sell and I actually signed up for this forum to find JV Partners who can offer my service for 50% of the profits. I have a guarantee loan vehicle by way for establishing and enhanceing credit for Individuals and Business Owners ($50K loan guarantee). Would live to get feedback from you on how I can attract JV Partners.

    Thanks

I think a big problem with getting distracted is focusing too much on the money. When you only focus on money you see every email subject line as a bunch of dollar signs...hence shiny object syndrome. I remember a successful marketer telling me the only thing I should focus on is leads coming into my sales funnel as if you've just started up a lead collection hobby and you want to have the most/best leads around. When you do this and stop worrying about how much money collecting leads will make you (the money will come!) this whole internet marketing thing actually becomes fun and a lot less stressful. Trust me... start thinking like this and you'll find success fast.

This is an excellent Video for begginners of how to make money online!

Stop chasing the next shiny button - focus on program until you see results. The way to make money is to sell NOT buy products.

The best way to do this is BUILD YOUR LIST. You then want to form a relationship with your list by giving good quality content to them.

ONLY THEN, you sprinkle your sales messages (product) in. This way you are not selling all the time
