What Should You Focus On? Giving Value OR Making Money?

Hey Warriors,
What do you think is more important? Focusing on giving massive value to your customers or focusing on ways to get money? Really, what do you think is more lucrative in the long term?? Do you think it's possible to simply focus on making money without giving value to your customers? I think you should focus on giving value first. I made a video explaining why. Watch it and let me know your thoughts.

Definitely not, I do think it is possible the other way round - to give value AND make money, but if you just focus on making money and never think of going that little bit further, of actually being helpful then you will only get so far.

I don't think it is an "either / or" situation though - you can provide value, and also keep an eye on making money, or where the "value funnel" is going to lead to, I don't think this is a bad thing, in-fact it is imo what you should do if you are running a successful online business - provide some value, and then an upsell, provide a free gift and info on how to get more of it, provide some simple tips people can use straight away and point them to the source the tips came from.. this is best of both worlds, for your visitors subscribers and you imo.

That's like asking me what arm I like having the
    most...my left or my right?

After much thought, and recent actions...it
should not even be a discussion, because the
    two complement each other.

In fact, if you DON'T focus on making money
for the value you GIVE, your audience wont'
appreciate your work. They won't respect it.

At the same time, you want to give enough
to help them make the next step to paying
    you money

That's a great analogy. It seems valid to compare seeking purely sexual conquests and monetary gains while comparing meaningful relationships with providing high content value. The former considers people are objects that are to be taken advantage of, or simply to be gained from, whereas the later considers people to be worthy of spending time, and providing something to in the hopes of sustaining a mutual relationship of give and take. Good stuff

    • I think we should focus on creating a system that will provide a maximum amount of value in some time and maximum amount of money.

I agree with Adam also. What type of longevity does a business have if it doesn't constantly provide value to the customer. If you do not focus on value first you will unlikely get repeat business. You might sell the customer once, but try to sell the customer again if you did not provide the value. Most businesses rely on repeat business and word of mouth customer testimonials to thrive. If the value isn't there repeat business and customer referrals are not going to be there.

I do believe that money is a bi-product of doing a good job and providing value to the customer.

While it is importnat to make money, it is extremely imprtant to go the extra mile. I belive my customers will know how much effort & consideration ahs gone into doing whatever I am for them.

I would still say, keep an eye on the money as well. Don't totally ignore it. I know people who are extremely good at what they do, but don't earn enough. That is because, they know how to give more, but undermine their own efforts.

I agree. We should give good value to customers but also keep eye on the money. This reminds me of Jimmy D Brown who, from my experience, gives lot of valuable information both to his free subscribers and paid customers. But he is also smart enough to know where to draw the line and make money. Lot of money i would say By the way, thanks Aaron for starting this wonderful discussion

Definitely focus on giving value. If you focus on giving value to people, the money will inevitably follow.

Giving value, but you also have to have a plan of attracting buying customers.

Great video - thanks Aaron. This is actually a very good question. I think the issue many have with focusing on value alone - is that it is possible to provide value and not be paid for it.

What do you think? thanks again!

Well it's like do you want to make $$$ for one day or for a long term period?
If you want to stay in your business no matter what is it, you need to bring something, you need to create value for you clients...so sure value is important if you want to be an expert and stay for a while...and money will come because of these values...
