Programming your mind experiment....(and cool book)

Here is a good exercise to help you see all the unlimited potential
that surrounds you (from Prometheus Rising - Robert WilsonPrometheus Rising - Robert Wilson ):

1. Visualize a quarter vividly, and imagine vividly that you are
going to find the quarter on the street. Then, look for the quarter
every time you take a walk, meanwhile continuing to visualize it.
See how long it takes you to find the quarter.

2. Explain the above experiment by the hypothesis of "selective
attention"--that is, believe there are lots of lost quarters
everywhere and you were bound to find one by continually looking.
Go looking for a second quarter.

3. Explain the experiment by the alternative "mystical"
hypothesis that "mind controls everything." Believe that you
made the quarter manifest in this universe. Go looking for a
second quarter.

4. Compare the time it takes to find the second quarter using
the first hypothesis (attention) with the time it takes using the
second hypothesis (mind-over-matter).

5. With your own ingenuity, invent similar experiments and
each time compare the two theories--"selective attention"
(coincidence) vs. "mind controls everything" (psychokinesis).

Try it out - post your results/experiences!

No offense, but visualization is a primary component of (intentional) manifesting. I see no fundamental difference between the two scenarios.

That's an interesting though and, since I haven't given it a shot, I can't (or won't) give an opinion on it positively or negatively. However, I do agree with Aronya, in that, I don't understand the difference you're trying to make in the experiment. I get the difference between psychokinesis and coincidences, but it seems that both are using the same principle. Using your mind for selective attention is still using your mind to control "the universe" in the sense that you control your own chosen reality (and what else is there, really?)

I am not trying to make a difference - Its copied and pasted from a book called Prometheus Rising.

However, I do see a clear distinction between the two: One is a byproduct of the flow of a attention - the other is a function of mental manifestation.

Although nuanced, there is a clear difference.

Visualizing something before you see it doesnt mean you created it...it means you orientated your mind in a manner in which it would be capable of seeing it.

Creating something through thought is totally different: It means your thought actually manifested the outcome.

That means, in the first case the situation was always there, you just couldnt see it. In the second case, the situation wasnt there, but you manifested it through thought.

Is the result the same? Yes. Therefore, the experiment is a way to play with your reality and manifest (or start to see) the best possible situation for yourself. Either way, you win.

The point is to test basic assumptions of reality.

No difference here. In both cases you are setting a clear mental picture of what you desire.

Visualizing something before you see it doesnt mean you created it.
Maybe not always, but in the context it's used here, I believe it does. The act of visualization sets the creating in motion.

Manifesting an outcome does not have to mean creating something from thin air, which is what you seem to be suggesting we try to do. I do personally believe it's possible, but for a number of reasons that make us all human, it doesn't work that way for us. Visualizing a quarter on the street, then walking along & finding one IS manifesting the outcome.

You'll find plenty of people in this forum who seem to think that action is the genesis of manifestation. It's not. Thought is the genesis. Without the idea about what to do, there is no action to take.

        1. Visualize a quarter vividly, and imagine vividly that you are going to find the quarter on the street. Then, look for the quarter every time you take a walk, meanwhile continuing to visualize it. See how long it takes you to find the quarter.
What if, before you take your walk, you go to the mailbox to check your mail? There's an envelope there with a quarter in it - maybe some kind of promotional piece. Is there a connection to your visualization? Or do you just write that off as coincidence?

Law of Attraction says that it is absolutely connected. You created that quarter. Will you find another one on the street? Chances are fair that you will. Why? Because you believe in the possibility - you've done it before. Instead of the quarter, try visualizing a $100 bill. What are the chances you're going to find one on the street? Not good. Why not? Because you've never done it before. You don't know anyone who has. You have no reason to believe it could happen to you just because you WANT it to.

I think the experiment the author suggests is flawed (doesn't mean it's not a good exercise!). He's trying to take your power to create out of the equation. Problem is, it can't be done.
        4. Compare the time it takes to find the second quarter using the first hypothesis (attention) with the time it takes using the second hypothesis (mind-over-matter).
There is no difference between the two.

Have read it and I may try it the next time I walk. Is this something that should be done in real life? Correct me if I am mistaken.

      Yes it should.

You can try it with anything you desire...finding new business partners, friends, relationships, and so on.

What you believe you will see, you will start to see.

I think that is the main message.
