Its easier to encourage others than our own selves

For me personally, some say that one of my strengths is im good at motivating others, giving support and encouraging those who needed.
That's why I seldom show my weakness to those who know me. But you know, im just a human. I also feel down sometimes and need some support. But all I have to do is to support myself with all my strength even though I have to push myself to the limit. But I find it hard sometimes.

What will you do anytime you feel down?

For all the sharings, I give thanks

Ditha

    Hi Ditha,

For me, whenever I'm feeling "down" or I like to say disconnected, I go out in nature to reconnect. I take a long walk, sit in the backyard, go hiking, or anything else that just allows me to enjoy the outdoors because I know that nature inspires me. Also, I walk away from the project that I'm working on because I know that pushing through will only keep me feeling disconnected.

Since I live in IL, being outside without freezing isn't always an option so on those days I will quiet my mind through meditation or take a hot bath.

Once I've reconnected, I am once again inspired to work on my project.

Yes, Nature is the biggest inspiration for me as well. When I saw those birds chirping, green trees, and the innocent children enjoying their little toys, my heart becomes full of joy and hope.

I spend a lot of time encouraging others to excel at what they have chosen to do. To be honest though, it is a bit self serving of me.

Karen, I am in IL too, a bit south in Springfield.

    Hey,

I guess all of us have times when we feel low & don't know how to get out of there.
SOme of the things that I do personally are:

    1. And required the most... learn to accept that I am feeling this way, it's kind of tough, but I try my best to be honest with myself.

    2. take time off for about half hour or so & sit in silence till I go to the root of the issue - doesn't always work for me, sometimes, the noises in your head can kill.

    3. get involved listening to a radioshow or music

    4. workout hard... till I have no energy to think of what is bothering me

That's a really good question, and something that I struggle with as well (like everyone I assume). I think it is important to feel down sometimes, and it shouldn't be something to feel ashamed about. It is important to feel down sometimes because if you never felt down, you would never know what it means to feel up. If you were up all the time, it would be completely neutral, and you wouldn't feel any joy from it. So, it is equally important to have low points as it is to have high points.

The best way to make those down periods last a short while and to make them not hinder your life is to accept them as a natural part of your human existance. This is hard, to say the least, but I have found that it is the best way to come to terms with it. So don't feel ashamed about it ! Tell someone that you're feeling down and don't let them tell you that you can't feel that way. Naturally, you don't want to dwell on it either, but I don't think that seems to be the problem for you

Hope that helps at least a little.

        I agree with Silentx!

Feeling down is a very important part of life. It makes me appreciate the good times more. When i feel down, for whatever reason, i always still try to stay positive and think of people worse off than myself.

A lot of people don't understand and say things like "Cheer up, it may never happen" but for me, these kind of flippant comments are best ignored. I always find it best to be on my own when i'm feeling low and listen to music or motivational cds to get me motivated and moving.

The worst thing to do is to dwell on things for too long because that will start to create a pattern in your mind which could make things a lot worse in the long run.

Only the individual knows how long it will take to start feeling happy again and enjoying life. There are no set time limits as everyones different.

It's really true that "Its easier to encourage others than our own selves"
I have a friend and every time he encounter problems he always went on me and ask for help and I always do encourage her and always give her advises. But I realize that when I had a problem its hard for me to encourage myself, why is that? But then I do the same and go along with my friends and make my self happy. Hanging out with them makes me feel good and forget the worst thing happened to me. With your friends you can share with you your problems then they will give you advises and encouragements.

You also have to give your self permmission to succeed...there is nothing wrong with getting paid for your efforts..sometimes people have subconcious guilt associated with getting paid.

Once we understand that we give and we recieve but try to give much more you will see a life change.

Also remember to celebrate every achievement no matter how small...each day we awake is a gift..thats reason to celebrate right there. Some people can not even log on because they have no computer.....it just keeps getting better depending on how you look at things.

    Hi Ditha,

We can keep you company! This is so hard to accept that really, even if you're good at helping others, you on the other hand cannot have the guts to help yourself the moment you needed it the most. Well, that's also the reason why we don't have to be alone because there are these loved ones who could help us reduce the load and vice versa.

When we give pieces of advice to others, we actually do wish they do the right thing in any situation. However, the best pieces of advice we could ever give out are the very ones we give to ourselves. Wait a minute, can we give advice to ourselves? The answer is yes. In order to do that, give to yourself the very form of advice you could give to others.
