I would also like to reccommend his NEWEST book, "What Would Napoleon Hill Do?" which is a collaboration of "Think and Grow Rich" and his "Laws of Success." OUTSTANDING!!!

TAGR got me started with the whole personal development thing. Bob Proctor mentioned it on a CD and after the first few pages I was hooked. I like the practical, no-nonsense delivery. The story of his son is perhaps the most inspiring I've ever read. If that's possible ANYthing is possible.

I bought Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill about 20 years ago and read it two times. Since then I came across many books about application of mind power to solve problems and how human brain works. The more I became familiar about the working of human brain the more creative I became in application of ideas given in the book.

Think and Grow Rich is, in my opinion, one of the top 3 personal development books ever written along with The Science Of Getting Rich and The Master Key System.

Everything in those 3 books really makes you think and change the way you look at life. If you want to learn about how to become successful in business and everyday life, i can't recommend them highly enough.

I'm reading it now. It's very dated in places.

I can see where the authors of "The Answer" got their inspiration from though.

I haven't applied everything I've read in these books, but I've found since reading them that my brain is chugging out brilliant business ideas faster than I can implement them ! I am well on my way to setting up my 20 different $100 a month ideas.

This exert from a another giveaway product Iv'e been compiling suggests the people he interviewed to create the formula are the reason for it's success:

Think and Grow Rich is widely regarded as having inspired and created more millionaires than any other book in history. The likes of Richard Branson, Donald Trump and Bill Gates to name but three modern day entrepreneurs, recognise the value the book holds and have used the principles within to help them become successful.

Napoleon Hill undertook a massive research project interviewing 500 of the greatest minds of his generation and analyzing why they became successful. The goal was to find a formula whereby the ordinary man could achieve success.

When you look at some of the famous people he interviewed for research you have to ask yourself, if I can't learn from some of the greatest minds ever to have lived, then who can I learn from?

    • Thomas Edison – who invented/developed the motion picture camera and the electric light bulb.
    • Alexander Graham Bell – who invented the first practical telephone.
    • George Eastman – the founder of the Eastman Kodak company and the man who invented roll film.
    • Henry Ford – the founder of the Ford Motor Company becoming one of the richest men in the world.
    • Elmer Gates – who invented the fire extinguisher, saving countless lives.
    • John D. Rockefeller – who revolutionized the Petroleum Industry, founding Standard Oil, becoming the richest man in the world and the first American to be worth more than a billion dollars.
    • F.W. Woolworth – the founder of the F. W. Woolworth company now Foot Locker.
    • William Wrigley Jnr. - the chewing gum industrialist whose brand is still a household name today.
    • John Wanamaker - arguable the father of modern advertising, instigator of the “one price and goods returnable” policy.
    • William Jennings Bryan - 41st United States Secretary of State.
    • Joseph Stalin – former leader of the Soviet Union.
    • Theodore Roosevelt - 26th President of the United States.
    • William H. Taft - 27th President of the United States.
    • Woodrow Wilson - 28th President of the United States.

I have an electronic version of the original book, plus an updated re-written workbook version, a set of 16 videos, 16 audios and a 5 hour online seminar version. I give away an electronic copy of the original for newsletter sign ups.

As yet I haven't had the time to finish it yet allthough I have been through another video version. My favourite phrase which is from it is "What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve." If you really believe something the mind will show you the way but yoy have to totally believe it first, any doubt and it won't work. That for me is the essence of the book.

I am in the process of creating similar products for "As a Man Thinketh" and "The Art of Money Getting" ready to go. The websites are nearly ready. My aim is to have about 20 of these within the next year, taking them, updating them and creating a package to promote.

    Regards
    Clive

Yes, Think and Grow Rich is an excellent book.

Thing is though, you can't learn to swim by just reading about it. At some point you have to jump in the water.

Most people never get past the reading stage, which makes the book good entertainment, nothing more.

Having said that, this book is one of those which needs to be read and reread before something 'clicks'. That's when things start to happen.

By the way, has anyone read Wink and Grow Rich? That's a great book too.

    Abdul.

Just started it today! I'm a couple of chapters in and can't wait to get back to it.

I really enjoy the 'old' business/personal development books - Dale Carnegie is another great author from the early 1900's.

Any more recommendations from late 1800's/ early 1900's would be greatly appreciated. I find that many of the principles in these early business books can still be applied today.

    Santosh,
I have read TAGR a couple of times.... amazingly (not really) I have had huge business success while reading it and shortly thereafter..... (let me emphasize, after re-reading this post and reflecting on it - the biggest business successes I have EVER had in my life have come during and shortly after reading and putting into practice these Success Principles)

Unfortunately, when I am "on top" for a while, I start to think "I don't need to practice this stuff anymore - I've got it" (by practice, I mean the 13 Success Principles in the book).

Well: now I am at an all time business low due to being tied to a number of under-performing rental properties...

What did I do this week - I just brushed off my favorite copy of TAGR.

Started reading it this morning in fact (before finding your thread) and expect to be back on top before the month is through (at least on the way out of this "hole"). It is an amazing book for anyone that hasn't read it. Let me rephrase that - the principles inside the covers are amazing, and they can turn things around in a hurry when put into practice!

Maybe this time I can keep the momentum going - keep working the principles instead of thinking I don't need them anymore (or at least the "work" it takes to practice these principles).

Don't be afraid to challenge me on this one and ask for an update! By July 1st I expect nothing but prosperity in my world.....

    Best,
    Jeremy

I read it a few months ago and it has changed my whole approach in life.

The Thirteen Steps to Riches is described in this book offers the shortest, dependable philosophy of individual achievement ever presented for the benefit of man or woman who is searching for a definite goal in life.

Napoleon Hill talks in depth about step you can take to change your life and he says "Our only limitations are those we set up in our minds." This book will change your life and will teach you things like how to identify your Fears and overcome them, and how to use desire, faith, persistence, decision making, your sixth sense and many more to your advantage.

If you are over 40 or 50 years old and think the time is past for you to make your dreams come true, you are wrong, Napoleon Hill talks about some experiences that many successful men went through after age 40 or 50. This book will teach you simple techniques that you can apply immediately and turn your life around.

I am so glad you started this thread.

Think and Grow Rich is absolutely the finest book on obtaining what it is in life that you are after.

I have read the book no less than a dozen times in the last 20 years. Each time I find something new or a nuance that I never realized before.

I give away at least 10 copies of the (paper back) book a year. I give them to graduates (college and high school) because there is no way they would teach what he does.

Harvard Business School has one semester class where they teach the TAGR principles and use current examples. Otherwise, the only way anyone ever hears about the book is by referral. I think many who actually have read it and "get it" are afraid to let others know about it because they might think it is some "voodoo" principle or religion.

In my opinion the principles of TAGR are the only real basis for building a sizeable and robust enterprise.

Best to all the new readers.

      DarkOneToo

PS: I recommend buying a used copy or paperback. You can usually get them for a buck or two. Digital versions just don't work as well. Again, just my opinion. DOT

        ^^ I agree. Get a hardcopy.

Hill's book is the grandfather of success books. Most gurus follow the same principles. It's a bit bland though.

If you want a modern and epic version you should try Dan Pena's Your First 100 Million. It's a mind blowing wealth creating book (srs).

        DarkOneToo -
You made a great point.... one that needs emphasis..... I am reading my copy of TAGR for the 3rd or 4th time now and nearly EVERY SINGLE PAGE has highlighted sections, underlined sentences or notations in the margin! If anyone is to read this book and has $20 - get the paperback (on sale at Amazon for $13.57). And start marking it up!

Here is the edition I have: Amazon.com: Think and Grow Rich!: The Original...Amazon.com: Think and Grow Rich!: The Original... it seems to have a little more meat than some.

For those who think the info is dated - get this version I have recommended. Yes the book was first published in - I think - 1937, right at the tail end of the great depression. If you read it today as a current piece, it is amazing how it almost sounds like a new release as we batter through this recession.

Get it. Read it. Read it again. Change your life.

        Cheers,
        Jeremy

Just to add on, in the forward notes of the book it states:

After reading the book thoroughly, Dr. Miller Resse Hutchison, nationally known Consulting Engineer and long-time associate of Thomas Edison said – “This is not a novel. It is textbook on individual achievement that came directly from the experience of hundreds of America’s most successful men. It should be studied, digested, and meditated upon.

He went on to say that a real student will not merely read this book, he/she will absorb its contents and make them his/her own. This book should be adopted by all high schools and no boy or girl should be permitted to graduate without having satisfactorily passed an examination on it.

This philosophy will not take the place of the subjects taught in schools, but it will enable one to organize and apply the knowledge acquired, and convert it into useful service and adequate compensation without waste of time.

Yes the book is absolutely fantastic!! I have read similar ones with the same basic ideas presented in them but Think and Grow Rich really delivers it in a clear and systematic way that is easy to follow and IT WORKS. If you follow what it says it actually works!
This book was my true breakthrough to starting to get ahead in the reaching of my goals, money and life more generally.

So very much of our success is about a mindset with which we approach business and anything in life, and this book gives you all the tools to change a negative mindset to a truly positive one, and that when success starts coming to you.

It is truly amazing -- you work on your mindset and the other things just start coming to you once you are in the right frame of mind.

If anyone is interested in similar books, you can google for free copies of "Thought Vibration" by William Atkinson and "The Science of Getting Rich" (can't remember the author).

Mindset really is everything. It is worth reading as much as you can of the literature that gets you to think positive and take positive ACTION because that is what it's all about!

Think and Grow Rich is definitely one of the most practical and influential books for me, and its depth never ceases to surprise me. You can get a tremendous amount of actionable advice from this manual of success with every read-through.

If I were in charge of deciding high school curricula, I would--without a second thought--put Think and Grow Rich at the top of the list of books that students should study. As jeremytfleming said, it is truly a life-changing book, and I would also recommend Hill's other complementary book titled The Master-Key to Riches.

I was at the Magic Bullet Seminar in San Diego a month ago, and Amish and Jay had a bunch of their friends/mastermind members up on stage to answer questions from the audience. One of the questions that was asked was if they would all list either the book or guru that had been most instrumental in their success.

Without a doubt, Think and Grow Rich was mentioned more than any other. (and I think Tony Robbins came in second place, which echoes my feelings exactly)

It is a classic that should not be overlooked. I first read this many years ago as a child, but the principles are timeless and you'll see that upon repeated reading it'll reveal even more insights that may not have occurred to you earlier.

I feel that many of today's popular self-motivation gurus have pulled the basic principles from this book and made it their own...so there really is no need to keep buying all these latest books and tapes when the essential wisdom of Napoleon Hill can be had for free (I believe this book is now public domain, and you can download the PDF from basically any of the numerous public domain websites out there).

This book made me feel ill.

It seemed like all this man cared about in the world was money.

Some good ideas in there, but I would be cautious about the method if you value other things in life.

Besides, no one ever said there was only one mindset that brings you wealth.

The funniest thing about that book, and also the scariest, is the fact that the author constantly point out how you have to "want it", you have to have a burning desire. But if you had that desire you would likely be destined for success irregardless.

      Yes, irregradless.

I have a love/hate relationship with this book. It's dated and a lot of it is bilge. But on the other hand some of it is so bang on the money it's like it was written yesterday. Some of the stuff so exactly mirrors my own experiences it's unreal.

To take one such example, the stuff about not being distracted by other people is just fantastic advice for the facebook generation. Most of the people I know moan about their boring jobs, yet they just haven't realised they can easily take charge of their own lives.

And not telling other people about your ideas, that is pure gold!

I love this book - and have been digesting it one chapter at a time - as per the instructions in the book.

For me - the most important part of this book is not the wealth creation aspect - but rather the preeminence of the mind.

It's mystical - but at the same time 100% concrete.

There's really nothing mystical about it.

You desire something - you believe in it - you take steps to acquire it.

I am new to posting in the Warrior Forum - and actually I'm looking more for the lifestyle/mindset side of things.

I imagine it to be here in the MindWarriors section.

    - Very happy and grateful to be here.

    All my best,

It is funny that you brought up this book at this time. The thread i just opened was inspired by the word "impossible" on page 50 of that very book. reading through it for the second time. That word stopped me in my racks and I had to write down what I had seen. It is off the subject matter of what Nepolean was writing about yet his book inspired what I saw so i had to share it. if you read it let me know what you think.
